Bing translate (I can muddle my way through reading the original but I sure as heck am not good enough to translate. :). ):

As some of you know, I decided to unsubscribe from the 2022 World Championship.

It has been very difficult to make that decision due to the importance and the great expectations that were had for this event. Unfortunately, after evaluating the whole situation together with my coach @gregorio_nn we decided that it was the most sensible thing to do in the wake of the misfortunes that preceded today.

My luggage with my sports equipment was not received on time. We did everything in our power from the beginning and also many people in France and Mexico were supporting us to find solutions. Unfortunately, the situation of skates and luggage was always out of our reach and we could not find a solution for this mishap in time.

After seeing the panorama and the uncertainty of not having skates, I contacted the staff of @edeaskates to get some new boots with a pair of blades @mkblades that would allow me to train. However, not having them in stock at that time they requested them from their official distributors.

The next day, I skated with the new skates and despite the great effort made by everyone involved, I could not feel comfortable or in control even if it was the same brand of skates.

Control and precision are vital when skating and not feeling either, the risk of trying the elements without having the skates molded is undeniable.

The plan was to do the official practice with the new skates and once the suitcases will arrive, to be able to compete with my usual skates. As of the time I am writing and posting this message, my luggage is still delayed. When traveling by plane, ice skates cannot be carried as carry-on baggage due to the risk posed by the blade and as skaters, we are prone to go through these situations at the most inopportune times.

At the same time, it is sad to realize in the flesh that any skater takes this risk when competing internationally.

Donovan gave a TED talk in Mexico about a month ago and they uploaded it. What an engaging speaker, for close to 20 minutes without notes.

I have not watched all of it, and my Spanish isn't nearly good enough to translate (in fact I watch with subtitles, but at least I watch with Spanish subtitles). He talks, as he has before, about skating being perceived as a women's sport, but also talking about conquering the triple axel, and it being a mental block rather than physical.

There may be more when I finish it. ;)

Donovan will be teaching a course in Austin Texas with Benoit for Peak Ice Camps. His second camp, he seems to have found a gig with them.:hap10:

One camp is for adults as well as junior skaters. Any adult skaters? ;).

The camp is the same time as the Philadelphia International Comp, so I guess that's not on Donovan's schedule this year. I think Cranberry is the next week, so maybe then?

According to this article in IFS magazine, Donovan will be honored by in a fall event by the Ice Theatre of New York with the Will Sears Award, given to a skater who has shown exceptional daring and persistence in pursuit of his passion.:hap10:

Hello I am new here. In a recent interview he said that he was going to start his season in September with the US international skating classic competition. If nothing has changed I think he is not going to be in the cranberry open. But things change all the time so don't take my word for it. I do hope i am wrong and he goes, but if he feels he is not ready I can wait too.

Thank you for the information, Skati, and welcome! Please share as much information about Donovan as you have. :)

I was only guessing about the competitions. I hope he lets us know what his programs are, I have not seen that information yet.

There was a live with Benoit a while back with him skating to classic george michael , careless whispers. It was only a few minutes. But he hasn't said anything himself. If I have any information I will share it here.
