I think Niki put too much into the first half of the season and then ran out of steam. She peaked around December, and needed really to peak for Euros. I'm sure it's the sort of thing her team will look at before next season. It is with regret that I have to announce that there will be no woman representing our country at the WC as Niki Wories did not manage to get the minimums. In fact she was pretty far off at Bellu Memorial (she ended there in 6th place). And that was the last chance....
I hope so too. However I know how much she wished to be able to participate in the OG, and skating FS at Worlds this season would have ensured that (no other Dutch Woman is at that level). Now she will have to qualify through the 'Nebelhorn' process (which now takes place in China). and funding is a thing....Well, maybe the FS is too much to aim for in any case, so the Chinese qualifier would be necessary anyway.I think Niki put too much into the first half of the season and then ran out of steam. A shout out to all of them: well done!

However, the Dutch Skating Federation has declared beforehand, that they had to end 14th or higher to get the spot automatically, and will demand some extra points elsewhere next season. That fall in the second throw was costly in that sense!

That's really not fair. What is the Fed going to do if they don't get those extra points, rather not send a team at all??Hurrah! Daria and Michel ended up in 15th place at Worlds, meaning they (in theory it could be another couple but we've only got one, and that's them!) qualified for the OG next season. However, the Dutch Skating Federation has declared beforehand, that they had to end 14th or higher to get the spot automatically, and will demand some extra points elsewhere next season. It is not known what exactly will be required, but it feels wrong. Dutch speed skaters get sponsored or get an income from the Federation, Figure Skaters don't, and they still managed to qualify. Totally on their own merit. It seems unfair to put extra demands on them. But, for the ISU at least it is enough and they will not have to compete at the Olympic Qualifier in Beijing.
Probably. It would be the first pair ever for the Netherlands at an OG, but they are so focused on getting medals in the speed skating (short- and long track) that they also put demands on the Figure skaters. By the way, they wanted to do something like that for Lindsay too a few years back, but changed their minds. That's really not fair. So your Fed would rather not have any figure skaters at the Olympics at all than send a pair that finished 15th in the world in a competitive field and have been performing consistently all season?Hurrah!
