I think honestly this probably isn't that different than any other kind of trust that is broken in any other kind of relationship. If they are both SINCERELY COMMITTED to doing so, they can probably come back from it given time, but it will require... well, yes. Sincere commitment, open communication, truthfulness going forward, and time.

The key perhaps was that Maya seems to be a much more steely persona than Elena. She had sheer strength of mind and willed herself to become the best no matter the circumstances, and indeed she was. Unsure if Elena has developed that killer instinct yet.

Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir come to mind. They had a brief split in 2012 and aren't the best on a world stage by a far margin, but they are the best American pairs team right now, so that counts for something. Of course, their temporary split wasn't on this level of nutcase drama, though - they just said they argued too much but managed to piece it back together, even if they aren't the best of friends and don't get along very often, and neither of them had any new partners linked to them when they split.

They actually managed to get a gold medal right after their split - at the 2012 Ice Challenge.

Navka and Kostomarov split in 1999 after Linichuk decided he should skate with someone else - he went back a year later and asked her to skate with again and they went on to win 2 World titles and the OGM.

He says he decided not to ask them to speak because still no one has officially filed with the federation to split and team up with new partners - that they still have no reason to believe they are actually splitting, it's all press reports (apart from the part where Elena said Nikita told her they were done, but he seems to have missed that part ), and he thinks his intervention at this stage is not necessary. And apparently the Federation have been requesting clarification from Nikita and so far they have had nothing.

Maybe I/K have changed their minds or something? Since it comes to sponsors and lots of fees to pay for if they split, they will have to think twice.

But no need to lie now after Elena said yesterday that Nikita announced her about the split and after S/Z coaches said that Vika took her stuff and told she wanted to skate with Nikita.
