Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

I remember in the summer they didn`t disclose their SD music, because they had to verify if they could use STL. So, it seems like their team checked very early if it fit the requirements. Honestly, if H/D didn`t get any deductions for a SD that doesn`t have the 3/4 and no change of rhythm, why should I/Z be penalized? And even teams that have a clear 3/4 managed to get a T on their keypoints.

Let's just enjoy their skating. They look to be in great spirits. All these things are beyond our control.

In the meantime, isn't this the cutest pic ? :)http://vk.com/shindlerlist?z=photo1306895_385917037%2Fwall1306895_4610, Lena, Lena and Anna trying on wigs in China. Relax guys the season has only begun :cool14:

I feel like people are looking for problems with I/Z's SD less because they have a problem with them as a team and more because they can't get past how "weird" it is.(Which, really, their SD is actually not all that out there?)

It sounds like 3/4 time to me, but look, I'm no musician. I thought that STL had one of the strongest waltz beats of most of the choices this season, but if they have to make changes they'll make changes. Maybe they already have and just haven't announced it yet. Or maybe it's all fine.

It's being brought up because they are being looked at as a threat to Chock and Bates. There has been buzz on Twitter lately that I have caught. I don't get all of the fuss over the SD. I get it, it's not classical, its modern. I think skating is ready for modern. If I have to be forced to watch a JLO short program (last season) sold very well, than people can get over this. Skaters gonna skate.... To whatever they want to.

Really? I thought with Gabriella`s injury, W/P are again their main rival. We shouldn`t also forget C/L. They seemed to be very poised to get back on the World podium in the interview they did for Italian TV and seemed to be in better shape than last year.

I think most skating fans connect a Waltz like you see it on the Wiener Opernball, so in that regard I/Z doesn`t really fit that mindset. I also thought that Queen wouldn`t work as a Waltz SD and I still think that any other couple couldn`t have managed a Queen-themed Waltz SD. What makes it work for me, is Ruslena´s commitment to every movement of that dance. It actually highlights the many wonderful skills they bring to the table, so I will just take bramsweld`s and uhh`s advices to heart and have faith in Ruslena. :)

Yes they are. If you look at Skate America and the fact that Sinitsina and Katsalopov actually beat Chock and Bates in TES. It is no secret that Ruslena is technically stronger than both of those teams. Tack on the fact that they have programs with substance and performance ability, there is much for all of the above teams to be worried.

I feel you here. On paper some thought this waltz would be weird or even ridiculous. But based on what I saw at test skates and three weeks ago at the Mordovian Ornament, they look to be shaping up quite nicely. They seem to have the chops to pull this SD off very nicely. So I'm taking in almost everything I'm hearing with a large pinch of salt. Let's just see what the kids bring to the table.

Chock/Bates did have a new SD and were wobbly in the FD (running into each other on the twizzles). I could potentially see Ruslena challenging them, perhaps, but it'll probably come down to the day.

Honestly, ice dance is kind of a free for all right now. So I just hope I/Z skate well.

What's the buzz and what or who is the source? Can you share here or would you rather use PM?

Well, I must admit, I am not a fan of their SD. I didn't think it looked good on paper and I still don't like the "we will rock you" part. However, they skate it very well, and they do a good job performing it considering the music for the waltz/march. So, despite the fact I am not crazy about their SD, I wouldn't change a thing. They will score very well with it, so might just as well go for it.

It's basically Chock and Bates fans on Twitter. Fussing over the Mordovian scores.
What is there to fuss about? It was a first time Russian B competition, basically a local home competition, and it was obvious that there was some quite major overscoring going on - actually for most ice dancers, not just for the russians. Chock/Bates were ovescored too as it was Skate America, but a GP is still a more "serious" competition than a first time B competition, and the overscoring was not that major. And Chock/Bates had a new SD which they skated surprisingly well overall even if they got a level 2 for one of their Rawensburger sequences (the technical panel seemed especially strict about that at Skate America), so they hadn't had time to work on their FD. Having said that, it is quite obvious that the scoring will be very different for both teams at their next competition. Elena and Ruslan will have to be practically perfect and skate lights out to get anywhere near to what they got at the Mordovian Ornament. Whereas Chock/Bates will easily get even higher scores than they got at Skate America if they skate better than they skated there ( especially in the FD) which is almost a certainty.

So I read that STL might be 6/8 and got worried (lol as usual) but I googled and it said that Viennese Waltz can be 3/4 as well as 6/8. With them not getting complaints or advice from the technical controller at MO, I think they'll be ok, right?

As far as I know Somebody to Love is 4/4 . Time signatures are used for notation, not to describe the tempo. Meter specifies how a score is logically divided into measures and beats, BPM only tells you musical information. It doesn't tell you what notation duration is the beat, it specifies the speed of playing. For example, playing a music at 4/4 time signature at 120bpm, for example, will result in same total playing time if changed to 8/8 at 120bpm. Time signature are not used to convey the tempo and viceversa tempo is not used to convey time signatures.

Ravensburger Waltz requirements are:
Music - Waltz 3/4

Tempo - 66 measures of 3 beats per minute - 198 beats per minute
pattern - Optional

This music sheet looks weird to me. For me STL is definitly 3/4 or 6/8 in the middle (the RW pattern really could be 6/8), the experts say it's 3/4. http://www.queensongs.info/song-ana...synth-era/a-day-at-the-races/somebody-to-love
I never had a problem with their music selection and I think that STL catches the feel (the lightness) of the Ravensburger waltz and that's the important thing.
I'm not worried. There'll be no drama. :peace:

I'm not worried either. ;) What I'm trying to say is that tempo and time signature are two different things, to put it simply.

It seems to be, but it shouldn't. When you play the song using that 4/4 meter music sheet the feel will be different (if you forget how it should sound). But that's not the version I/Z use anyway.

I'm wishing Elena and Ruslan the very best of luck tomorrow! May they really rock their SD and show it off to its best advantage, both technically and artistically!

I'm glad to hear that both their skills and their programs are considered superior to CB's and am not at all worried about their choice of music for SD. (I personally do like CB's programs too - I just enjoy IZ's more and root more for them in general.) I'm sure they at least double checked that the music is suitable, and as for its being modern, I very well remember the furor when Grishuk and Platov became the 1st ID team in the world with a rock'n'roll in FD - much more unusual then than modern music in SD now - and stayed an uncontested no. 1 for as long as they competed.

I'd like to thank everybody who reponded to my question about PC's scoring last season! Lauravvv, yes, it indeed didn't occur to me that they might well have been underscored before. I still think it possible that DG's influence might have helped them get scored correctly last season, but when I'm having these cynical thoughts, I remind myself that IK won FD in Saitama after K had botched the twizzles in SD and TASS had announced their split, and I feel hopeful again that justice and scoring according to merit will prevail.

Wishing everybody happy viewing in the upcoming extended weekend!
