Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

I've noticed judges hold back on PCS until they are certain about what they can expect from a skater or couple. Like Lipnitskaia's SP marks being in the 7's when it was in the 8's last year. IZ have botched the FD in their last 3 competitions (not counting WTT) so they aren't giving them the benefit of the doubt yet.

There is some merit to this argument. It all comes down to the impression they leave in the free.

It`s interesting to see how S/K`s and B/S`s fans were so happy with their scores, although they scored more or less the same as I/Z. Whereas with us, there is a lot of disappointment. I guess it`s because we know how much potential I/Z really have.

We have high standards! And I'm sure that really we're all overreacting - S/K got their score skating the best they ever have, I/Z got a higher mark when we know they can perform so much better. Lets all stay positive! :ghug:

And after all the drama this week, the rhythms were fine!

Good point. Even Carmen didn`t score as high as W/P´s or C/L`s SD last season and Carmen was a masterpiece.

or PC SD at Euros, despite IZ having a perfect foot skating there and the highest TES.

I am disappointed - not that surprised though since I've been telling here the key will be the judges - with the judges to see 6's and 7s. It's a complete joke. So at this point I say to Ruslena skate to whatever music and programs you guys want and enjoy. At least you'll have fun and like what you do while competing. The rest is Amstel.

Elena said to the press afterwards that they have been working very hard on the levels for the SD because if you make an error there it can lead to very big losses. The SD has to be firstly about getting the elements right. Maybe they just need more time after concentrating on the technical side to really add to the performance.

They did quite well, not a mistake in my eyes. They should have been second but it is ice dance judging, let's wish the best for tomorrow. :ghug:

Curious thing, CoC last season after the SD:

CL 2nd with: TES 29.14 (BV 24.70)+PCS 33.56
PC 3rd: TES 31.76 (BV 27.70) + 30.36
IZ 4rth: TES 30.29 (BV 27.20) + 30.28

They skated very well. There were no mistakes, and no unpolished steps. This is high quality ice dancing, it's not a local dancing school that teaches the steps like the Chinese couples did them. We can't compare such knowledge of ice dancing with I/Z , or even CL and CB level. There is nothing unpolished in their skating, their timing is perfect, Brit.Eurosport focused on the timing and I completely agree. They sell everything perfectly, their connection is great. Actually Brit.Eurosport mentioned something I noticed in Saransk as well about their pattern. They have added a variation of one of the steps to make it their own. This can be risky, if the panel is very strict and they can't see the leg extension as they're used to it. But IZ did that, and I liked it, the Eurosport guys loved it too. They are creating their own image on the ice, it's what they like doing, it's them, and the rest is just whether a panel was ready to put IZ infront of ex world champions and C/B cause of reputation, and alliances.Just a look at the judging panel is enough to see the possible alliances.
For me I/Z were the best today, not as a fan, but strictly technically speaking. The PCS is subjective at this point, and it's more about reputation.I honestly didn't believe they would put them over either CL or CB in the SD.

I couldn't have said better myself. I hope they will not change a thing.

As Lena said to the press, the dance just needs a bit more zip going forwards and they will be fine.

Good. I'm happy to hear it. I love this SD. I saw the performance and they were very very good. Those twizzles were wow.

Exactly. My only concern is, if they could do this so well, can you imagine how beautifully they could do a classical piece? I'll wait patiently for them to please us sometime in the future

Well....I must say I am surprised at the results of the SD here, with CL leading. Anyway, IZ have a strong FD so I think they will move up on the podium here, we'll see.

Well there is plenty of time for whatever theme, music, in the future. I would love to see a tango also. :hap85:

I mean, they are pleasing me 100% now, I am just a little sad/concerned about the judging. Like Alba I'd love to see a tango sometime, but really anything they put out there will be pleasing to me. I really love this program.

I think the Waltz doesn`t suit them as much as the Paso Doble from last year. I expect them to do much better with the Blues theme next year.

Maybe you're right. I'm surprised, because I thought with the lovely light skating they showed in the steps in Appassionata that they would handle it really well, but they haven't gone for that kind of waltz. I also think they'd be fab at a sweeping, dark waltz like Schnittke's from The Story of an Unknown Actor, but something about this rock-yet-perky SD isn't quite clicking yet. It's pitched somewhere in the middle of two styles and isn't hitting either target yet. I don't think Lena's dress helps either, it's sophisticated but it looks too much like a practice dress. I'd like her to keep the top, but make the skirt shorter & fuller, and maybe add a sparkly trim. Just to lift the whole look (her make up was ON POINT though).
