I still wonder where the judges found that Skating Skills score for SB.
We will find out about Euros on 27th, but considering that the judges put so much effort into SB`s PCS score, so they could stay infront of IZ, I don`t expect them to give the third spot to them.

The top teams were so bunched in the FD, it will be interesting to see what happens for the selection to Euros. I'd send B/S to Worlds, and the other 3 to Euros, with S/K going to Worlds unless they are handily beaten at Euros. But whether Kustarova & co have the weight to make that happen in the coaches selection meeting is another question. If the season ends here... I do hope they make some changes in the coaching set up. But at least they'd have an uninterrupted period to work on the tech side and regain confidence for next year. They are going to need to be on top form because on today's showing it will be tough for Russia to get the 3rd spot back.

I completely agree with you.

Recently I watched an interview from more than 15 years ago again with connection with marks the sportsmen receive in subjective sports. And the coach said : "If we receive lower marks I want it to be not because we have failed or because our opponents become better than us, but because the judges decide so." I think that today we saw something like that. And I don't agree with comments even here on this thread that they worth it because they were inconsistent at CoR and last year.

I don't believe that the marks were justified and I don't think IZ will benefit from not going to Worlds and EU. On the contrary. The results are stating "not worthy a medal home, not improving". SK were not punished for making the only big mistake among the top teams in the Nats. I don't see the fair share here. This year they have far more challenging programs and they should fight for their place at EUs. And if this is politics and the Rus Fed does not need them then I think it is better if they don't just change coaches but the Federation they represent instead wasting time.

I agree to everything except that they simply can't change the Federation. They wouldn't be allowed to compete at the next Olympics.
 
W/P were in a similar situation when they started skating together. Their first season together was amazing, they won Bronze at Junior Worlds and qualified for Senior Worlds. After that season they struggled for years putting clean performances out there and it didn`t help that Skate Canada was pushing Paul Poirier. After W/P didn`t qualify for Olympics and with P/I coming onto the scene, most people thought they would soon disappear. But 4 years after not making the Olympic team, W/P were the ones fighting for a Worlds title, not G/P and certainly not P/I.
With that I`m just saying that there is no need to panic. Judges can be very forgiving and if I/Z show the quality, the medals and titles will come.

I forgot to mention that I really like the change in choreography at the end of Frida. I'm not sure if I would want them to keep Frida like others mentioned earlier. While I LOVE this FD, I think it's has been too sophisticated for the judges this season. In a 4 minute span, the judges might need a program that is more linear when it comes to portraying a true-life couple/people or a program that follows the time line in the movie/ballet/opera/book or a dance with an abstract concept like addiction or generic theme like first love or traditional program like a tango. One of the British commentators mentioned something along the lines of him not understanding Ruslena's FD and was comparing it to the movie, so that's something to work on for next season. This ones that mean they can try something new, but they got to pick a theme or story that the judges can follow from the get go.

Ruslan made good improvements with his facial expressions this season, but that is still something he can continue to work on so he does not get that focused face when performing. Maybe some acting classes to help it get more of a range of expressions.

I love the Parov Stelar "Booty Swing" song someone recommended. There is a lot of great Electro Swing music out there that would work well for the Swing part of the SD. Maybe they could consult with one of the top West Coast Swing dancers/choreographers for next year's SD like Benji Schwimmer (he's worked its W/P and Jeremy Abbott). West coast Swing has got some funk and sass and sexiness.

If I were there coach I would take Elena and Ruslan to some swing dance and boogie-woogie competitions in Russian and elsewhere and start working with a swing dancer there too. I would even have them try some social dancing at a swing club/event and try dancing with experienced swing dancers individually.

What are you all wanting to see for a free dance next season?

I think next year they should skate to music that is very recognizable but hasn`t been done to death. Maybe something that has a clear storyline, that the judges will understand.
I`ve now seen from several people writing that they don^t seem to work hard enough. I MO, they very well trained at COR and Nationals, but I do think they should work maybe more result oriented.

IMHO, if they didn't work hard enough we wouldn't have the gems we now see, or for that matter Change .org petitioning the results of RN. Their hard work has been clear to see from tournament to tournament. To make their harder twizzles look as easy as the easier versions is a feat within itself. To incorporate that feeling of dance, draw people in not to mention their step sequences and how much Ruslan has improved in the lifts are amazing. They just need more time. I think it is an insult to their hard work to repeat such statements here in a fan thread. A better understanding of the matter is for the style they are going for they just need more time.

The real issue was they were bamboozled at MO and had little time to regroup. They were then shell shocked at COC by the SD results and felt probably it was too late to make a change and so they pressed on. These things may have played tricks on them mentally and affected their ability to relax more.

They need to take some advise from Scott Moir and dumb it down a bit to make it easier for the judges. This is what all the top teams are doing, dragging out every movement ad nauseum. I just hope they can add a bit of spice to it all, because quite frankly ice dance right now looks frighteningly bland. It's a matter of strategy, maybe better coaching advise. But I really hope if they take this direction it won't sap the uniqueness out of them the way way Igor did with that team from AZB. It's in times like these I wish I had Diaz and Hurtado to look forward to.

They need to think longer and harder about the music choices. It's just the nature of the sport now. But I get this feeling they will make better choices going forward. They will be missed at EC and Worlds.

I am so furious with judging at Nats that I just want to stop watching ID. SK weren't punished at all for their mistake in twizzles in SD and got enormous GOE and PCS for everything. And IZ getting lower PCS in FD than SB and SK? What a joke.
I wish BS the best of luck on EC but I just cannot support SK or SB though they are not the ones to blame.
 
Simonenko wrote an interesting article on sovsport - not saying anything explicitly, but the tone is that the judging was not entirely above board, not based on what was done here but how couples had skated on the GP.
 
I think I spoke too harshly about Y/M, yes we know there are other factors, but I don't think she is fully recovered from injury. I hope they can gain better form soon.
 
Y/M are doing fine for a team coming up from juniors. The only teams to make an immediate impact over the last 5 years or so were the Shibs and I/K. All the others - P/C, H/B, M/K, both S/Bs, P/I, S/Z, even going back to B/S - took a couple of seasons to make a real breakthrough. It's not like singles where a skater can immediately compete with the best seniors. They have to cope with harder set pattern dances, more lifts, and the judges re-calibrate PCS (I wish they wouldn't because junior teams get a skewed idea of where they would be if they were competing senior).
 
^^ I get you, but you can also see that the injury has taken its toll. Oh boy probably I should have written this in their fan thread, excuse me.
