Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

They won`t go to Nebelhorn. Well, I guess they have enough time to rest Ruslan`s knee and make any adjustments to the programs if needed.
Thank you, Martea25. A pity that we won't be able to see their programs so soon and that they won't be able to test themselves and the programs in an earlier competition, but it's definitely more important to be healthy for Skate America.

A little bit about their FD http://rsport.ru/figure_skating/20160910/1072675414.html

Am I understanding this right, that they think about staying again with Kustarova?

They are going back to Moscow to sort out costumes, maybe to stay with Kustarova a bit, but they are going to contact Igor first to make decisions. She says she doesn't really know full plans because they'll have to work around the injury.

Ok,thank you. Sigh, stupid injury :frown:
Hopefully they can work it all out.

As far as I understand in the first interview they mentioned that the specialists are pleased with the programs. And that Ruslans injury showed up yesterday. So does it mean he skated injured in front of them ? I am again worried since they did not mentioned anything about when they are going back to US and how much time he will recover except of skating as SA. Also at skating with Kustarova during staying in Moscow is it arranged previously or bacause of the injury?

Going by Vaitsekhovskaya's latest comment, it's Baker's cyst, caused by overuse.

She also said tomorrow will be some serious discussions about their financing

Damn, she HATES them :dbana:

I'm so sorry for Elena and Ruslan now. I kinda hoped it is strategic move, and hopefully it is. Really hoping everything will be alright with them :(

I`m a little confused, tbh. From the info of their official vk group it didn`t sound like something serious, but after reading the articles and now this info from Vaitsekhovskaya, I`m very worried. I just want them to be healthy, happy and to go back to Igor. :(

Baker's Cyst isn't a major major problem. It can be managed - not over training, anti-inflammatories, icing, using compression bandages, cortizoide injections. Even if the cyst bursts it's just rest & compression for a bit. Finance is a harder problem, I thought they had a sponsor who helped them? I'd contribute to a Gofundme to keep them with Igor!

Tbh, I think the Fed should be rethinking how many funded skaters they include in the team. In my country, only real podium contenders get state assistance - ensuring that there is enough money to keep the best athletes with the best coaches, with the best facilities. Russia on the other hand is funding a lot of people, many of whom won't even be making it to an ISU championship, let alone getting a medal there. Russian ice dance is not great at the moment, but in I/Z & S/K they have teams with potential, as long as they keep getting good coaching. And right now, the good coaches are not in Russia!

New comment from Vaits on Elena and Ruslan: they're not progressing, so the sponsor is considering to stop financing them.

This is awful! How can the sponsor assess if they have improved or not? They didn`t participate in a competition since December. Besides, they are funding them only since 6 months, the season hasn`t even started yet!

Ridiculous. How can they say absolutely they are not progressing when they haven't been in a competition for 8 months? Why put money in for Igor and then not wait to see if it pays off? If they stop paying now & the guys go back to Kustarova, the sponsor has completely wasted their money. If they wait until Christmas & still no results, well then, yes, stop. Does no one in this sport realise that you don't get results overnight? It takes long term effort and investment.

I agree with you, and that's not me who said this. I have no idea how they asses their improvement, but I guess it has something to do with Tarasova's opinion. Remember there were rumours in the summer that when she got back to Russia from the US she said that both teams were complete 'disaster'? Maybe it's not just a rumours after all.

Is this Vaitsekhovskaya`s own speculation, maybe? Hopefully, the sponsor can be persuaded to continue funding them, Elena mentioned that the experts did like their programs.

I don't know, but I'm reading back through her comments, and all she is doing is trashing them and the decisions they are making. Now saying they shouldn't even be going to SA? But she just says "I understand the injury is xyz" it doesn't sound like she really knows what it is. The girls on the VK group talked to Lena today & said she's happy & positive, not at all like this is some diaster. And Vaits has not seen the programs or how they are skating - this no progress, not good enough, bad decisions stuff is horrible. You wouldn't think it's coming from a supposed professional journalist.

Even if Tarasova's "disaster" assesment is true, what is she proposing as the alternative? Z/G who are still slow & unmusical, Davankova who is just dreadful, Bukin & Stepanova with a last minute program change and who went backwards in international standings last year? Or just B/S as the only senior team until Shipilyeva/Smirnov are old enough? :noshake: The federation is run by idiots.

Really????? **jaw drop smiley* 're: TAT
First time hearing that rumour Now I'm doubly sad & will go sulk in the corner :(((( I was super excited for this season for both teams

I can't take too much stock in Tat. She pushes Stepanova and Bukin like no other. Ruslena will be ok.
