Finally saw the dance! It was quite good, so happy! I don't care about the final placement and all I wish is for a clean skate tomorrow with better levels (it was quite weird not seeing a single element today level 4, especially the pattern that had been level 4 in Skate America) and to finally hit 100 points in the FD internationally (apart from the Mordovian Trophy last year)! Commentators in my country emission were a bit critical of them because they say that they both have great skating skills so they always expect more from them, but slowly they might get there :agree:

She in particular looks a lot sharper than she did at Skate America, I am surprised to hear she was injured because I specifically was thinking she looked better.

I was so happy for them when I saw the standings! And then I watched their skate, and it was magic! The speed, already fast in the first part, became supersonic in the second – it was unbelievable. And their mood in both parts, their chemistry, their expressiveness, their elegance, how quickly she changed positions in the lift – the whole thing was so explosively festive!
The gap with PC is ridiculous, but PC are two-time and reigning WCs, skating at home, so this wasn’t a surprise. I’m somewhat worried, though, if IZ will be allowed to keep their lead ahead of HD and GP, if all the teams skate clean. I so want them to win silver here!
I’m very glad they got good GOEs here and hope they’ll be able to combine them with their usual levels in the FD!
Ruslan says that coming back home has allowed them to recharge psychologically, which has given them more energy. And I love his sense of humor! Elena was waxing nostalgic about returning to their home rink, coaches, and training mates, adding that even the changing rooms felt close (homely, familiar), and Ruslan added, “and the ill-working cord from the player.”
Elena said that they and their coaches were so happy to see each other, that when IZ came to KA’s rink before the test skates, “we looked at each other, and we felt as if we’d never left.” She also said that they feel that KA are very interested in them as athletes, that they put their souls into them and make them feel wanted. Of the Novi team both of them sounded particularly grateful to Fabien. When the journalist asked them directly if their work with Shpilband is over, since he wasn’t in KiC with them, Elena said that he approached them during their practice in Paris, made various suggestions and complimented them, but that KA are their main coaches, so they seat with them in the KiC.
I wish them all the luck in the world tomorrow!

Thank you very much for the link! Yes, Elena says that she only returned to the ice on Monday, and that as late as Tuesday they didn’t know if they'd be flying to France or not.

Oh-man, both Elena and Ruslan have had injuries this season!?! Well, even with those setbacks, they are bringing more energy and determination to their programs compared to last year. Elena’s happiness in the kiss and cry was so great to see! They now know what they need to work on for their next competition to improve their scores. Why was their lift given only a level 3?
With their SD costumes, I wish they would try a rockabilly style to fuse their two music styles better. I'm thinking a cross between the movies Cry Baby and Swingers. Elena needs a bright red dress IMO and then Ruslan could have his hair slicked back and wear a retro-lounge bowling shirt.
Did I read correctly in the article in that they had different blues music initially?

They lost 2 levels in the blues pattern and twizzles, as well as 1 level in the lift, but gained 1 level in the partial. They received some huge GOE for their non-touching step sequence and gained over 2 points in their PCS.

The Short Dance is working 100% and I think once they get their levels, they could be competitive for the top 8, but this FD, I don`t know. I understand that Shpilband wanted to give them something energetic, but there are so many other ways to do that. They had to go safe this season, so I would rather have them skating another Flamenco program or something super dramatic like Carmina Burana.
It`s so frustrating, the judges here were ready to give them the silver, they had the second highest PCS. I don`t think the coaches are going to change their FD and I`m afraid that they will again end up as 4th at Nationals
