Yes, I love this one too; we've organised a Pelageya fan club here  :luv17: She has an amazing vocal range and has done some truly interesting work, less pop-folk and more true folk, as well as folk-rock. This is why I hate is to so much when people think Kalinka is what real Russian folk music is like :bang:

what about some modern version though

idk about others, but i can see three main branches now regarding style: NA, Russia and Japan, all have their own features, but of course there are some skaters/coaches who are mixing styles a bit sometimes

Amazing songs!

This is why I hate is to so much when people think Kalinka is what real Russian folk music is like :bang:

This is similar when the people think the Hungarians are "gulásh", "paprika", "csárdásh"

For me this is typical Russian song.. and the Russian soul..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5SlUmCdXf0 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wV1kzblUElY goosebumps! I adored him! I love the Russian songs so much! And I love the man choirs!

As for skating, I'd rather differentiate European vs American style. American programs on average are more powerful, but sometimes a bit plastic. European programs are deeper, more sensual or meaningful, but often lifeless. To me, this difference is very clear in Zhenya's old and new programs.

I can almost always tell if something is Russian vs NA, although I don’t think I can describe it.
I would say that Russian is more lyrical and rooted in some kind of ethnic tradition, while NA is more universal, or “plastic” as you said. But there is no rule and there are many counter examples.
The “soul” concept is true, nations have theirs souls and should maintain them. I don’t think the North Americans can understand it. They tend to see the world in a more universalistic sense. However, I think there is an American soul, as there is also a Canadian soul. They deny it, as the liberal culture sees it as “fascist”, but the soul does exists in many people. I can see and feel it. It’s the reason I came to this country.

Not really. The only difference i see is approachment in choreography where NA is based more on the interpretation of the music notes and rhythm while E more on the intrepretation of the character/story. (and both can be interpret from the soul)... But there is no really different style in performances there. I mean i see differences betwen Latino style, Gipsy style, Afro-tribal style etc but no country represent exlusively some of those styles to be called different from another.
