I am embarrassed to admit this, but I forgot whether Rachael Flatt is old enough to qualify for the World Team. Something tells she may not be old enough and yet I hope she is. Either way, I am just not sure and hope that one of you lovely Golden Skate forum members can inform me ;-) (Prize for your efforts: a good night kiss from Michelle Kwan or Stéphane Lambiel.)

The way to tell is that a skater must have turned 15 by the previous July 1st. Rachael, not "Rachel", turned 15 on July 21st, so she can not do Worlds until next year. That's OK, let her be the World Junior Champion.

No, Rachael Flatt is too young by 3 weeks. She turned 15 on July 21, 2007 and the ISU deadline (miminum age to compete in ISU senior championships such as Four Continents and Worlds) was July 1, 2007.

Too young for 2008 Four Continents and Worlds but will be old enough in 2008-09: Flatt, Caroline Zhang, Mirai Nagasu, Keauna McLaughlin (of McLaughlin/Brubaker in pairs; he's too old for 2008 Junior Worlds).

Seems then that the third spot on the world team will go to Alyssa Czisny, assuming that Ashely Wagner will take the 2nd.

Good Luck Rachael!!!
Here's hoping she makes the Junior World team this year!
All the best from your southern California fans!
