Things I noticed: The pairs competition here is, well, sad. Only 4 countries represented.

Also...Samohin? He has a GP event though. That's odd.

Also, benefiting from unused spots are:

Men:
- Russia (via Latvia, which had 1 spot in each event)
- Israel (via Argentina, which had 1 spot in 6 events, 1 of which was allotted here)

Ladies:
- USA technically gets 3 for hosting, but I'm not sure if the reallottment rule skips them.
- South Korea (Kazakhstan only used 1 spot despite having 2 per event, but Latvia had 1 entry in 7 events and didn't use theirs so even if the US had no hosting advantage, KOR would still have 2 spots)

Pairs:
*sad trombone*

Dance:
- Canada (via Ukraine's 2nd spot)

I have not seen Sakhanovich, Proklova or Sotskova in any event so far...

According to hanca in the Common Info thread, Russian JGP test skates are this week (whereas entries were due last week) so we'll probably see substitutions soon. And AlexRus said Proklova is dealing with injuries.

AlexRus reported yesterday that Proklova and Iushenko have injuries and will likely miss JGP.

I was thinking of planning one of my trips to Colorado to coincide with this event if Sima had gone there. Looks like I'll be planning my trip around the snow forecast instead and spending $10 on Epic burgers at vail resorts.

I'd hold off for a sec though, since the entries could change with the test skates.

I know right. Last year was all sorts of changing. I actually wish GP was run the same way. Fed gets so many spots and decides who to send. Much more sneaky fun that way

It's even more crazy to watch the later events since those entries can change a LOT depending on how the first events go.

Yes, if GP event was run this way, it would be fun. But I think they need the money from the audience and the audience is attracted by knowing in advance who will be skating. Finding out only a month ahead may discourage some people from attending.

Sofia POLISHCHUK / Alexander VAKHNOV RUS along with another Russian couple were arrested in Lake Placid for shoplifting. They were participating in the Junior International event there, but were disqualified from participating in the free skate because of the arrest. I expect they will be replaced at the Colorado Springs event....

Ksenia KONKINA / Georgy REVIYA RUS also competed at Lake Placid but were not involved in the shoplifting episode and placed 3rd in the Junior International event.

There's a great little shop very close to the arena that sells a variety of souvenirs that might be enticing to young skaters. I guess they were very enticed but didn't have the cash...
