Was it just me falling asleep for a moment or did they skip Brian Joubert and go straight to his scores?

Are they trying to make up for the football game that went overtime? They had an obvious score of 20 something to 3 so of course they have to finish showing it. How else would we know who won? I'm stupid so please show me the obvious. :sheesh:

Fortunately the GPF is going to be reshown on ESPN on Jan 1, Jan 3 and ESPN2 on Jan 2.

At times I really hate ESPN and other times I'm glad. Our local coverage was even more sporadic and worse.

What are you talking about!!!!??? I thought they did a terrific job, and I totally enjoyed the program.

I think they actually skipped over it. Boring competition though.

Are you sure they skipped it? I missed it when I was away during commercials but the commercials went by so fast! They were saying that he was coming up so they didn't show it?

Yes, they definitely skipped his performance. He finished 5th. I don't think we missed anything special.

I enjoyed the competition.. Yes, they did skip Brian Joubert.. I agreed with all of the placings except for the ladies.. There is no way Arwakawa deserved the silver.. She only did three clean triples and look tentative and slow.. The placings should have been Irina, Canadian girl (Rochette?), and then Ando..I could have even seen Ando second,,,she had seven solid triples, but still needs a lot of work on her artistry/in betweens...

I'm assuming that Brian is still skating to "1492," considering that the new costume has North & South America on it. Can anyone confirm this?

Congrats to Jeff Buttle!

If the event had only been judged on the free skate, I would agree with you. But there are *two* parts to the competition, and Shiz had, by all reports, a great short program, and Joannie's was not so great. However, I haven't seen either of them, so I don't know for sure.

ESPN could've chacked the long Irina and Shen/Zhao fluff instead of Brian and Chait/Sakhnovksy. We'd already seen both of those at Worlds; didn't need to see them again.

Exactly. I was yelling at the tv while the football game was grinding to its obvious conclusion (ahh, but it is so important to show the football players walking around clapping each other on the back while the clock ticks sloooowly down in a 39 to 10 game). My husband was laughing, but he said he would feel the exact same way if it was a Steeler game coming on next.

Then when they started at the beginning, I was like "well - good for ESPN!" When all of a sudden they went from Li to Brian's scores (and I hadn't gotten up from the coach) I was not amused.

Gawd I miss the SPs

You guys realize we've seen ONE short program all season (Johnny Weir's)?

Gee, I hope they show more during Worlds....

Shiz had a new costume, too. My husband kept saying "why would she wear dark underwear under a white dress?" until a close-up reveals that it was blue beading...

Talking about costumes...Brian Jouberts costume is much better than the last..I really like the map print, but what in the heck were they thinking when they sewd the cuffs on? They belong on a clowns outfit in Cirque.. Whoever does his costumes should be shot..lol Although, I do like Arwkawa's new dress..but she needs to loose the glittery silver hairnet.....

ESPN & ESPN2 showed the grand prix at least 3 times over the weekend and re-run of the Cup of Paris. Yeah!!

Monday night's coverage (1/3/04) showed Joubert's program, and the broadcast ran 30 extra minutes in comparison to the ABC broadcast. Terry mentioned the S&Z fluff piece which must've been part of the ABC broadcast and was not shown on ESPN's Monday re-run. So even with an additional 30 minutes, and no fluff piece, it seems that Joubert was the only other skater to be shown on ESPN broadcast. I taped ABC but haven't watched it yet. I assume ESPN had more ads to fill in the extra time.

It is really annoying that SP's are no longer shown (Skate America being the exeption). Also, if memory serves me right, GP Final coverage in the past would show more than just the top 3.

Thank God for the Hockey strike! Long may it continue! Today we saw 2 hours of SPs and ODs from the JGPF (4-5) in each category on TSN, and the GPF coverage had 4 of so of each SP and LP in each discipline over the last 2 weekends on CBC. 2 more hours of JGPF to come later in the week. Last year the Canadian coverage was awful, but this year, it's been great so far- now if it just be a bit closer in time to the actual event-but better late than never, and it's been great to see some SPs!

Also, with the JGPF, it's good to see some skaters I've never seen before- Asada looks great,
as did some of the young Japanese men and the American Pairs.

What has really been bugging me is all the competition repeats. The network should have used the time to show short programs or more skaters.

Yesterday, CBC featured the GPF ladies and pairs, both SP and LP. You are right, while Joannie's SP was OK with one mistake, 2 foot landing on the 3 flip, Shizuka's SP was magnificent. She might have been a little short on the rotation on the 3 flip, but all the other 7 elements were superb and she came miles in the presentation sector, with the so called "details" which brings the second mark way up. So she had quite a cushion after the SP over Rochette.
