Evgenia Medvedeva to train under Brian Orser

I am so proud of my baby girl wanting to grow up and take charge of her own career and her own skating. :clapper:

Didn't Michelle say something very similar when she left Frank? Admirable, yes, but that doesn't mean her competitive results will follow suit.

Pretending to be Medvedeva's fanatic:
"this is an inconvenient moment, we can just ignore this or misinterpret it the way we want because it contradicts our agenda"

By the way:
Evgenia to Orser: "I don't want to say anything bad about my previous team. Buuut... they didn't let me choose programs/music!" :laugh2:

You realise it's not a bad thing? Just a fact. I don't even know how this is under dispute now when everyone around team Eteri has always said that the skaters aren't the ones deciding the programs. And not in any negative way either, but completely matter-of-factly. And yes, same applies to Anna Karenina, because according to Eteri herself she was the one who decided to switch and told Evgenia (to her delight).
I mean, it makes sense when you coach younger skaters. Nothing unnatural about that.

I don’t know how it’s good for Medvedeva to have all her new team relentlessly bashing big stars of Russian coaching which also attacks Russian Federation! I mean is Medvedeva going to be representing Canada?

Brian's public remarks to Ice Network.

"The main thing is she needs to have a voice in her own skating," Orser said. "We have been discussing music, what direction we want to go -- she has never had that luxury before. She told me it was, 'This is what you're skating to. This is the order of your spins, these are your spin positions.''

This is the only line that can be seen as "bashing" and even then, the statement is largely true. Her training regime and what she gets to put out on ice is very rigid. This is no secret in Eteri's group.

"Relentlessly bashing" is a large stretch and this kind of behaviour needs to stop on these discussion boards.

Bashing would be Orser calling out Averbukh's "choreography" for what it actually is: pile of garbage.

Some posters here clearly don't understand the definition of "bashing".

My favourite part about this is that you have to post this on GOLDEN SKATE.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Averbukh's choreography regularly looks like a person with no sense of rhythm and two left feet decided to pick a song they thought was "edgy" and stuck a bunch of superficial movements about the life of a dying old crone of a mime living in gay Paris to the garnish of music, and then decided to write an essay about the theme of the "program", because no one was ever going to get it.

There. Done.

This one's for free, Orser.

Eteri isn't the only coach with skaters that don't pick their own music, either. I think Brian was just being matter-of-fact. Coaches and skaters don't necessarily hide this information during competitions.

Its hard to watch when certain Fans, eat their young. Move on folks, as some here are behaving as bad as Eteri! :palmf: This is life and change will happen...please accept and move on!

Terrible, Terrible! If we acted like some of them and turned on Zhenya like they are, we would be called all kinds of not nice names. But as you say they eat their young. True fans or love of country over skater. 🙂

Didn't Michelle say something very similar when she left Frank? Admirable, yes, but that doesn't mean her competitive results will follow suit.

Michelle Kwan had a respectable career after leaving Frank. The 2002 Olympics were the only major misstep (ugh - she really should've stayed with Frank until after the Olympics).

If Evgenia stayed with Eteri, she would decline. She's leaving to give herself a fighting chance.

Here in Sweden the news were a bit mixed. SVT (Swedish national TV) says:

"According to AP, the relationship between Medevedeva and her trainer Eteri Tutberidze has become ice cold after the Olympics. Tutberidze has said to Russian TV that Medvedeva ignores her and won't even return her calls. The trainer also said that Medvedeva has tried to stop Zagitova competing at the Olympics."

Hmmm...strange. Any news on what Eteri actually have said??

I'm looking forward to seeing Evgenia with Brian, to be honest.

i love orser to death, but i cvant help but see irony whenever he comments on Trusova and whether she will have quads when she grows and how she's gonna be short lived. He isn't exactly holding stephen gogolev back from having all 5 of his quads

New game, break up songs for Evgenia- Eteri, I go with this one

The problem with all of this is that the skaters are owned by the Russian Federation and not being their own person? Why would she have to get permission from the Russian Federation to go to Canada to train? THe coaches are owned. The skaters are told what to eat and when to eat, told when to sleep, do as you are told because we own you. Then when you hit puberty, you are out the door and an old woman at the ripe old age of 18. No Longevity! ☹️

TBH, the repetitiveness seems to be a major issue for most top choreographers, specially considering the skaters skillsets.
I mean, Lori re-using choreo is a common place and so on. Others probably do it too.

Averbukh was just unfortunate to have a skater win several times in a row with his choreo =P

Averbukh was incredibly fortunate to have a skater who had the skills to win *despite* his stale, uninspired and sometimes bewildering excuses for "choreography".

It will indeed be wonderful to see what Med can do with real programs.

Brian wants Stephen to have longevity in skating not a flash in the pan....He knows what he is doing, that's why Zhenya is going to him..🙂

Eteri's comment really did its job, considering how much game of telephone it's gone through in forums and even foreign media, to the point it's now become 'Zhenya demanded and tried to keep Alina from competing in seniors this season' instead of a private, in the moment outburst from a heartbroken girl after her Olympic free skate and losing the gold medal.

She could at least discuss that with her coach, but she decided to not even try. That's her choice. I have zero respect for such people.

You see, it's all about "who believes who". I don't believe either of them, but saying one thing and doing other means she is a hypocrite. Also she doesn't want to comment on the words about Zagitova, which most likely means it's true.

It's funny that you claim to not believe either of them - but then take it as 100% fact that Evgenia didn't try to talk to Eteri, which can only be based on Eteris words, and use that as grounds to continiously try to degrade her here. With basically no actual arguments whatsoever

And maybe he also worries he'll lose them the moment he hits puberty and grows 5 inches.

I know he didn’t say “who cares?” I believed that’s the mindset. To dismiss accomplishments in juniors because they may not Last in seniors. That’s attacking the Russian system right now. The Russian system is pre 18 girls doing amazing. Why is this a bad thing that needs to be banned? This is what Medvedeva has joined. A ban the Russian system promoter.

That's true. Because Evgenia, like all life forms, continues to age. As she intends to compete beyond hitting 18 years old, she needed to find a coach/system that would allow her to do so. It's nothing against the Russian system...she's just at a different point in her life where that system isn't going to work for her.

Thus, she made the move to Orser.
