Evgenia Medvedeva to train under Brian Orser

I wonder why in most of cases, fans always give the coach the bad role, even before they make comments. That didn't happen only to Eteri and BOrser.

Why does it matter?

Well, people like to draw parallels. My recollection (a vague one, I have to admit) is that Orser's primary beef was that Yuna stretched out the decision of whether she would even compete the next year, which left Brian in limbo. A coach has to line up his students for the coming season. If Yuna was leaving, he had to pencil in someone else. A coach has to make a living, after all.

In both cases, the one who says the least, wins. There is no reason to go running to the press with "your side of the story." Go on about your business and let the press stew.

I think it's just human nature. People are fans of their skater, not of their skater's coach. Everybody loves Yuna Kim (except a few Mao Asada fans). Everybody loves Evgenia Medvedeva (except a few Alina Zagitova fans). My fave can do no wrong. My fave is always right. Anyone who speaks ill my fave is automatically a bad person.

Orser was not smart in the break up with Yuna (I'd say both ways), but I would say it's he has learned from his mistake and his deals with his later students have become wiser.

Eteri, on the other hand, has many break-ups with her students and still has not learned.

Are you referring to the same sports.ru that has been a Evgenia hatefest for months and is well known for its horrible comment section? Or the same sports.ru that titled the news of her transfer with "Medvedeva's new coach is gay"? (yes, really) way to go off that impartial source.

And they were criticized to death for that title in the comments section. But who cares right? :palmf:

Because most fans are fans of the skating, done by the skater, not the coach. It makes sense though, because when skaters win, they get the reward, not the coach. Coaches help the skaters, skaters are the ones who do the skating. Not a foreign concept, happens in everything not just sport.

Sure, but I doubt Yuna/Mao/Orser care at this point. So why do we?

With whom did he break up after Yuna, I mean big names?

:shocked::palmf:

Now that Orser gave an additional info it became more clear what Evgenia did. Utterly disrespectful and immature way to leave a coach with whom you worked for 11 years :disagree:
Looking at the comments at sports.ru it's a "from hero to zero" situation.

I think at Plushenko's situation... he was so loyal to Mishin. He could have left Mishin after not winning the gold at his first Olympics, but he didn't.

Zagitova on 1TV was asked to comment about Medvadewva from reporters. "There's nothing to comment from me" "I'm not a Zhenia, so I can't do anything to answer her Zhenia situation. And I'm not in touch with Zhenia at all. "

They were great friends....if I'm not mistaken .

So many fake emotions and words and acts.

Still says something about their articles, I think. The additional information BOrser gave doesn't actually condemn Med's behavior in any way.

Fans generally like/follow skaters, not coaches. Also skaters are usually kids/young ppl, viewed as more deserving of sympathy, whereas coaches are adults.

not great friends, just two persons who respected and probably still respect each other

I had no opinion on this split until Eteri spoke. Honestly, it is a private decision that should be made by Medvedeva and her family. It should have been discussed with Eteri face to face. But, the way Eteri commented is not appropriate or professional. If she had just said, I have always been there for Evgenia I don’t understand why she left without discussing it with me first. I would have felt compassion for Eteri. But, she went on a smeer campaign. I can’t support that. The Orser/ Yuna situation was different. They both failed to communicate clearly. Both were equally at fault. Eteri insults all students who leave. That is not mature or responsible.

They did seem more than just respectful in Japan, they were goofing around and joking together a lot at rehearsals. I'm sure some of those feelings changed after the most recent developments though. For sure they still respect each other after witnessing how hard they work.

However, my understanding is that in Russia, this is a bit different. The coaches' authority is respected more and the coaches aren't employed by the skaters in the same manner in there. From what I've seen, the response there isn't as overwhelmingly pro-Medvedeva and anti-Eteri as I've seen on the western social media / forums.
