Im not expecting the rule to be passed but it would be nice. Whatever country benfits so be it. Im thinking of the next olympics when Russia will have Alina Zhenya Masha Sasha Alena and Anna to name 6 for only 3 spots. Who knows what other Russian girls are going to be good then. I would like to see Alina and Zhenya make another olympic team but it will be hard to do.

First of all, you can't "count your chickens before they hatch." The Russian women have not yet even swept a senior world's podium/ olympics podium. The US swept the podium in 1991 when US woman were the best in the world. But, they still did not get more than 3 spots. Secondly, there are many talented Russian juniors but how many of them will survive puberty and injury? The 2013 Junior World's Podium was swept by Russian women. Elena Radionova, Yulia Lipnitskaya, Anna Pogorilaya. Of those girls, two have retired. And, Elena is not considered a real podium threat domestically or internationally. I would never count Evgenia out. She has the mental strength to overcome anything. I am not sure that Alina has that same special strength but time will tell. She may be a real threat in 4 years too. There is no denying the amazing pool of talent in Russia (Japan too) but I don't think we can be sure this will translate into pushing the current champions off the podium. History suggests otherwise.

no and in fact the situation has turned so much many would prefer eteri to stop coaching and if she doesnt want all her students to fail even if it means russian ladies boom is over

I am quite sure Eteri is not the cause of the Russian boom. Russia spent a lot of money developing their figure skating program prior to Sochi. Then, Adelina won a gold medal. Success breads success. There are so many talented young Russian skaters/ such a huge pool of talent and Eteri accepts the best. Other Russin coaches could also be successful with this level of support and that pool of talent. No one thinks having Eteri retire will make the Russian "ladies boom" disappear. That is a ridiculous. Some Russian fans, have a real persecution complex. (not all/ but some) Constructive criticism isn't hate. Eteri is obviously doing a lot of things right. But, she is also so emotionally immature and untrustworthy that I woud not want her to coach my daughter. Alena K. , Trusov, and the other juniors are amazing and would thrive under any coach who provided approprate technical help, structure, and internal competition. I am sure there are many coaches in Russian capable of offering that environment. No one wants these beautiful skaters to fail. We want Eteri to behave like a mature adult.

Osmond did flip toe and not lutz toe and certainly not lutz loop! It’s not just Russia. The new movement would have banned Higuchi from 2018 worlds. I want to see 15 year olds be in seniors because that’s what the hardest is done. Yuna couldn’t do loop. Couldn’t do hard layout in Sochi. Did three double axels in Vancouver.

This is all about Medvedeva. Medvedeva is moving to Canada and to a ban under 18 activist to remove under 18’s as her competion.

:confused::laugh:

Dang, I've been giving poor Med too little credit all these years. She's a fab evil cut-throat queen, who'll poison my wine if I ever visited her house. She knows I'm a Yuna fan.

Before I saw Alenka, I thought Eteri girls needed more skating lessons. Then I saw Alenka and I realized some people are just born with amazing skating skills.

In my opinion, Evgenia and Zagitova have just one season left for almost certain domination, them being 1st and 2nd.. Other skaters just don't have their consistency.

If Alenka and Trusova can keep their consistency to senior level, then there is going to be a bloodbath at Russian Nationals

However, if Russian ladies do a podium sweep for GPF and Worlds for more than 2 seasons in a row leading up to Olympics, if say the competition becomes too fierce and concentrated within Russia, Russian Fed will make an appeal to IOC and to ISU to maximize top spots for top country. It will happen if the Eteri girls do well in senior as they are expected to.

I think it would make olympics more exciting if Alenka, Trusova, Anna, Alina Z and Zhenya could all represent Russia. But that would never happen. But I do wish the maximum spots increased to 4 from 3.

It's never going to happen IMO. The idea seems far-fetched. And not all exciting senior lady skaters come from Russia. So that's a big no. Maybe for you it's exciting, but I'm one of those who prefer diversity. They can have the bloodbath in the RusNat.

Ok Eteri's bad coaching, Averbukhs crap programs, Dudakov's bad technic is a past. But what about that person that was making the dresses? Would she keep the collaboration , what do you think? This were good at least.

Olga?! I doubt it. She’s based in Moscow.

Well, not all community (https://m.sports.ru/amp/news/1062983092/). But at least people with common sense (:rolleye: ) have supported the decision of Evgenia.
Chaikovskaya is also from Sambo, I wonder if it has something to do with it. And Averbukh got offended on his own behalf. There have also been those who tried to remain neutral. But you do not get the feeling Eteri is well-liked, exactly, or close to anyone.

I remember Brian saying he is not willing to get US student because of all the paper work it involves. I wonder how much paper work he will be sent by RusFed ;)

Russia would not do that because it would hurt their chances in other disciplines. They are dominate only in ladies. They would likely loose spots to Japan (or possibly the USA ) in mens. They would also likely lose spots to the USA or France in ice dance. They aren't likely to gain spots in pairs either because the Chinese have a strong pairs program and are preparing for 2022. The ISU wants to limit the length of these competitions so if the top country gets 4 spots other countries will get fewer to compensate. It would not be a smart move on the part of the Russian federation. Anyway, this is off topic :)

What's with the "why are her fans jumping ship and bashing her now?" comments.

Granted, I haven't analyzed EVERY post in this thread, but if I were to "spitball" a guess - I'd say that 95% of the posts have sided with Evgenia.

And the 5% that don't probably weren't her fans anyways.

Seems like much ado about nothing.

This. I've seen only one person saying she is a fan that she is disappointed in Evgenia. Everyone else seems to support her. Don't know why it's now said that Evgenia's fans abandon her.

Strange.

Where is this idea Orser is an over-18 senior supremacist coming from, anyway? His talking points in the icenetwork article about raising the minimum age were only about limiting quad training for Stephen and being a bit skeptical of a 13-year old girl keeping quads into her 17-18s. Just because Hersh implies he agrees with Arutunian about girls turning senior at 18, doesn't mean he actually said it. Much like Orser didn't specifically say that Yuzuru would continue 'into the next Olympics' as Hersh implied in a tweet and then in the article itself Orser said nothing specifically about that. Maybe Orser thinks limit should be raised to 16 and not 18, who knows, he didn't say it in any of the quotes.

I apologise for OT but is anyone else not receiving quote notifications? I didn't get warning of this one or any quoted posts recently.

They've been turned off temporarily, because of some problem with registration. You can check the announcements board for details.

Oh thanks, I've been meaning to check that announcement post but never actually did. :palmf:

I just don't get people who are bashing Medvedeva. I don't even like her skating. Weren't y'all fans a month ago?

Look there are different types of fans and “haters”. There are fans of Evgenia, because of her skating, there are fans because of her personality, because of both, because she ware Yri on ice shirts, because she skated to sailor moon and so on…

In all this people this change brings different emotions and different feelings. If you are just for her skating it brings mostly excitement eager to see the new. Personality, you want to see how she will grow by seeing new stuff what kind of person she will be stabilized to.

Depending of point of view they want to see Evgenia-Alina fights or Eteri/Orser fights, maybe see the Lutz fixing, choreography, Russia Canada artistry wars, I don’t know there are a lot …

One of the main reasons I joined GS it was her.

My feelings? I felt sad. Maybe because I liked both personality and skating and I felt betrayed in personality because of what she said about Alina. I know it is Eteri’s side and I wish it is a wrong accusation based on lie. So far though all the comments I read from coaches, commentators, figure skating people no one actually considers it a lie. She didn’t denied when asked. Just said I don’t’ want to comment, I don’t like this PR nonsense. She was very talkative and denied directly the question about which country she will represent and I understand that the first it’s not the same matter of sensitivity and style of to reply as the later.

They just say that it was on a moment of big disappointment. Yes it was and a very big one. But you don’t say such things even if you are on disappointment. I couple of months before she was giving that speech at IOC about dreams, fought on ice… Alina had dreams as well. The big sportsmanship is in big moments. (“Ευγενής άμμιλα” as we say in Greek, the first word is actually her name)

So she step on the red line for me, if she passes it most likely be with no return. I will enjoy her skating but with not the same feeling. Maybe I’m overreacting I don’t know, likely.

P.S. My apologies for some sarcastic comments I posted in previous days.
