Evgenia Medvedeva

I'm no choreographer, but I'd love to see a spiral in Zhenya's sp when he says "Let's start over again". It would be magical

I can totally see them placing her combination jump on that second half bit as the program builds and then having her do a spiral at the start of the lyrics into footwork. I think it would make a lot of sense for the music and the way it builds. So this is actually a fantastic idea! Maybe you should be a choreographer? ;)

Edit: I’m also pretty certain of the combination jump being placed in the second half because of the higher single piano notes at the start between the soft bits (I’m terrible at describing music). She will probably land her axel or triple on them.

According to russian SO, yes... that's exactly what it says. :sad4:
Her spins was absolutely stunning. But looking at it I can see why she doesn't risk doing it again. From what we know of her back injury it was in her middle tonlowrr back, exactly the things she would strain and put pressure on when doing the spin

Could she do spins like Deniss Vasijlevs or Daniel Grassl?

I also think that they'll place the combination in the second half. However, and I hope this doesn't happen next season, if she fails the combination in the second half and it is followed by "let's start over again" it would be quite...ironic?

Maybe it would give her reason to laugh it off?
Also positive thoughts! If she can skate clean like she did for the second half of the season, falling will be a word she can yet again remove from her vocabulary!

Sad news about the Bielman, even if it's more of a confirmation than completely new info. I'm sure I'm not the only one who already assumed the Bielman wouldn't be returning. That's usually the case for skaters with serious back injuries. Still sad to know for sure, of course...

Zhenya’s fans already made her even more famous with tens of comments about her under Muse videos:laugh:

Hah, good to hear

I'm still pumped about this choice. I love Muse, been to their concerts and all. Sure, others have done this track before (and there're a number of other songs by Muse that'd be good for skating), but there weren't that many renditions in Ladies', as far as I remember. Super curious to see what Zhenya does with it!

In response to a fan who asked how her leg was, she said it's better - so great news.

I’ve seen that already! The same happened to the Orange Coloured Sky video - all the comments were full of “here because of Zhenya“, “Zhenya Medvedeva brought me here“... Her SP video also has 787 thousand views now and it‘s not even been a full 24h yet! To put it in perspective, she has 745 thousand followers on Instagram. That‘s so insane.

That‘s great. I‘m relieved.

Here‘s Zhenya having fun with Jason and Jun again:

oh, zhenya. not surprised to hear about her beillmann but still slightly devastated. that being said, i’d rather she never do a biellmann again and stay as healthy as possible as opposed to pushing herself to do something that’s going to damage her back further. lots of skaters lose their beillmann/layback spins to back injury, it just sucks seeing it happen to someone so young. 😭

I'm relieved! I'm hoping she's just being extremely cautious. She's away from training right now so there's no reason she should put herself at risk. However, post-worlds until now she's been quite ambitious about next season, so there's definitely reason to believe everything will be fine in due time. Let's hope!

One day Evgenia will write a book. “No flowers for Tutberidze“ and Yulia will be co-author... :slink:

I wish Julia and Evgenia were friends and had a good rapport. Julia doesn't interact with Zhenya at all on Instagram. That's always bothered me. Julia is an icon of Russian skating and I just wish they got on alright.

The announcement was so surprising! Typical Zhenya. Always so cryptic and mysterious.

Does anyone else also think she's maybe tried a few quads for practice? It wouldn't surprise me, especially the way she talked about trying a 3A in a harness. I have a more positive outlook of her injury now -- especially since she (and Brian) talked eagerly about off season training and learning quads, right after Worlds even when she had confirmed the injury. Zhenya has gotten to know her body even more over the past year, and even though she's hard headed, I don't think she would be reckless now. I don't think he'd mention it if there was any sort of very serious hip injury. Also, I don't think he'd recommend her to skate in ice shows either if it was incredibly serious. I know she needs to make money and I know his fee is high, but at this point I think he realizes she's an international superstar and to let anything like money affect her training would be silly -- especially with all of this new Nike content and with how many views she's garnering.

Heal fast, Zhenya!

Even though it's extremely sad to hear that one of her most beautiful traits is gone due to injury I choose to at least try to see it as a positive - now she can try other layback variations and distinguish herself even more from countless other ladies doing the biellmann :) I mean just look at Adam Rippon's GORGEOUS layback at the Pyeongchang Olympics!

I am probably one of the very few people that actually LOVES her Y-spiral, If she could do it but hold it longer after the turn I'd be down for that :luv17:
