Evgenia Medvedeva

That video of Liza landing that (beautiful) 4T is giving me a lot of hope for Zhenya's Quad progress! Even if we don't see it this season (which I'm totally fine with), her 3S is so perfect that I definitely think she can pull it off. If she works on it hard enough and has it ready for next season, she could then put 2 in her free skate for the next (Olympic) season. This would give her a great chance of making the Olympic team.

That's my hope anyway.

But anyway, enough Quad talk...

I'm glad the Olympic channel *finally* uploaded her 2018 free skate. Honestly, the more I've watched it this past week, the more I'm convinced it's her best performance (at the time, Rostelecom surpassed it in my opinion). It might not be technically her best, since her jumps look like they were achieved through sheer willpower, but that's what makes the program so special and inspiring. She was in so much pain and instead of breaking (like most would) she put it all into her performance, it was breathtaking and devastating. She completely embodies the tragedy of Anna Karenina by using her own emotional turmoil and turning it into a moving character study, at least that's how I saw it. It's also the best use of sound effects in any of her programs, some might find the train sounds gimmicky but since trains are a recurring motif throughout the novel I think they're perfectly used: the sound of the approaching train looms over her, inevitably leading to that final moment when everything comes full circle. Ugh, it's so hard not to cry with her at the end, but I'm no longer sad that she lost because she probably wouldn't be where she is now! She gave that performance everything she had and while it didn't result in a Gold Medal it did result in an iconic performance, I don't think it will ever be forgotten.

I'm still bitter they waited until now to upload it, should've done it early last year. But oh well, better late than never!

You know, I used to think the same way about that free skate at a time when most people still seemed unable to watch it. Maybe it was because I became a fan later so didn't really feel all of the struggles and pain some fans did. But now I've realized just how labored her skating was like she was dragging herself across the ice and I clearly see the difference between before then and after then.

Also on another point, whole I do want her to compete in the second half of the season, I've realized that I don't really want Zhenya to reveal her 4S until next year. I just feel like it's too early in the olympic cycle and there's always the risk of her scores peaking next year and then not being enough for 2022. However if it comes out ready soon, then I guess the hope is that she would be able to do two by the Olympics

Hmmm do you think she might be changing up her SP layout? Something like:

3Lo3Lo, 3F, 2A
Or
3F3Lo, 3S, 2A

would mean she’d avoid a 3T and increase her BV.

I hope not. 3F3T is the best option until she has a correct lutz.

Would her BV be higher if she did 3F3Lo and 3S than 3F3T and 3Lo?

BV would be the same and you can get more GOE with the 3lo.

I think people underestimate her SS under Eteri. She was already good, not the best but above average. Ofc it´s good that after the coaching change she is working on her SS with Tracy, it´s what she needed because of a different body and higher competition.

I just joined Golden Skate so haven't read all 1,350 pages of this thread but I wanted to add I think she is much more of an artist today and she still has the technical goods. I have really enjoyed watching her programs this year (minus the the ones she struggled with). Hoping the best for her at her Nationals.

It's not available anymore. :(

I watched the whole interview via VPN and enjoyed it very much even though I only understand little bit of Russian. :)

Thank you! To be honest, I‘m not a huge fan of interviews in general, but the ones with Evgenia are such a pleasure to read/watch. She’s such a smart young lady, I don’t know her personally, but she seems to be so sweet, kind, with great sense of humour, she’s one of those people who everyone likes [emoji4] I’m pretty sure I would feel very comfortable around her if I had a chance to meet her

You can register and vote for the ISU Skating Awards now. Zhenys is nominated for the categories: Most valuable skater, best costume (MOAG), most entertaining program (MOAG).

I voted of course :D

Awesome! She deserves all those noms! I spread the wealth a little and voted for Zhenya as Most Valuable Skater, Kaori for Costume, and Kevin Aymoz for Entertaining Program. Those last two were tough calls!
