Evgenia Medvedeva

I'm still kind of hopeful that Zhenya will receive WTT level of FS score but I guess I expect too much. Alina's score raised over 10 points compared to the beginning of the season. She is sweet girl and I love her and I will fight for her but it is too much IMO. Also I'm afraid how she will deal with potential gold.

Anyway I just hope Evgenia is satisfied with her score

Evgenia did it very well! it saddens me that she has been second place.
Maybe it was a mistake not to have done 3f-3Lo :(.

Independent of the result, Evgenia is still for me a better skater than all the other ladies in competition, the most balanced

I admire you very much, Zhenya!

Success in the FS :cheer:

Well, I'm heartbroken for Zhenya :sad21: I want to have faith, but it seems like Alina will have to bomb the FS for Zhenya to win. :(

At this point, I'm just trying to accept it and simply hope for Zhenya to have a great time at the Olympics and be proud of her performances. I'm also trying really hard not to be angry at Alina's PCS :drama:

And it seems like it's time to stay out of the main threads for the event. People are being way too celebratory about this. It would be one thing if they were actual fans of Alina's, but I can't stand seeing that so many people on this forum seemingly just want Zhenya to lose no matter what.

I'm still hoping for her to pull an Aliona and Bruno or Yuzu at 2017 Worlds and just dominate the FS, but I know it may not be enough anyway. :sad21:

The only bright side I can see here is that not getting the OGM may be added incentive for her to continue competing that she may not have had otherwise.

Fine performance by Zhenya, great champion absolutely delivered, kudos! :clapper:

I think there is no point really in pretending like Alina might fall twice in the free. :confused2: She will be a beautiful young Olympic champion, and bring unspeakable happines to her family and town - I expect to see a statue of Alina on the main square in Izhevsk

Evgenia is my favourite skater of all times, and she didn't win me over because she was constantly winning. She did so because I see in her skating the elegance and musicality I don't in any other lady, and because I can see that she is such a kind, beautiful soul. That fact is not going to change regardless of whether or not she wins all the time and holds the world records or not. I loved her even before she had any record - and remembering and acknowledging that really makes the sadness I felt after Alina's result fade.

A silver medal at the Olympics is a huge accomplishment. Thousands of athletes pray they could just achieve the bronze. Also no one is taking away the fact that Evgenia was the first woman to score over 80 in the SP, over 160 in the FP, and both over 230 and 240 (for one more day, she will remain the only one). She already truly changed the very history of figure skating, and I really believe that if Alina and the rest of Eteri's girls didn't have such a stable, strong and gracious champion to look up to - they maybe wouldn't have been so determined and successful themselves.

So in conclusion - :thank: Medvedeva, for yet another breathtaking performance and reminding us why we love figure skating, and I can't wait to see your beautiful FS soon :)

You know what, Aljona Savchenko attended 5 times the Olympics and initially didn't manage the gold but still everybody knew what a stellar she is. Same goes with Zhenya, no matter the colour of the medal, we all will be proud. What an athlete, full package! :ghug::thank:

Scores are out of her control, all she can do is skate to the best of her abilities, which she accomplished today. Regardless of the result I am extremely proud of Zhenya for delivering that amazing SP. And let's not lose hope yet, she is skating last in the FS, that already plays to her advantage
Go Zhenya!

Let’s not be sad! Evgenia delivered a wonderful skate despite dealing with tendinitis in the past few days.

She has broken another world record in the process, even though it was short lasting, and has given us another beautiful performance.

I really don’t care whether she gets gold or silver or bronze, I just want her to be happy with her performance and to enjoy the Olympics! I’m sure she will deliver an amazing free skate too :)

She will skate last ??

What?! Tendinitis?! She is amazing if she skates like this with tendinitis

Cause Alya has better Lutz and judges see her as a leader :(
I love both Evgenia and Alina, but I do not get why she had the better score today. Alina's movements were way too fast, she seemed nervous and overall out of music. Also, as I already said, Evgenia's first two jumps were amazing...
Isn't that more important than the lutz?
I agree that Alina did better at the European Championships, but she was not the best one today...

Glad tha Zhenya is skating last like she prefers!

And please everyone, let’s not become towards Alina what so many people have been to Zhenya... Alina has an insanely high BV and she has skated perfectly clean today. Sure her PCS are 1-2 points higher than I think they should be, but she is an incredible competitor and she is Zhenya’s friend. They will battle it out in an epic FS :)

Yes, absolutely! Excellent point; we can't project annoyance with Alina's PCS onto Alina herself. :agree2: She's such a sweet, talented girl and is just doing her best like all the others.

Honestly, though, I'm actually surprised with how little venom Alina's receiving. I'd thought the Zhenya-haters would feel the same about Alina, but they just seem gleeful that Zhenya may not win. :noshake::scratch2:

Anyway, yes, let's hope for a great FS for both of them that they can be proud of! And no matter the outcome, Zhenya is an incredible fighter and has such an admirable spirit, along with her talent. I know she'll do great tomorrow. :)
