Evgenia Medvedeva

Except this is not figure jumping.

Believe me, I agree with you, but it seems to me that the judges might have a different opinion and if you want gold... you have to please the judges, not some forum users :P
This is why I also wouldn't bash Alina or any other skater for backloading. You play by their rules.

Except this is not figure jumping. If you take only jumps then kaori wins (except lutz).

I know some of us are overemotional and might be a little biased, but I don't want to take it on the skaters personally. Just as any other lady in the competition Alina had a combo and two single jumps in the SP, and just like Med all stucked in the 2nd half. Her SP is not only about jumping, which she btw does perfectly right now. Sometimes they might be borderline UR but this wasn't the case last night. And for this competition of importance are only the performances from last night and from Friday. She has great spins as well, have you seen her donut spin? I mean, I don't understand that much of technique but I can't stay blind and pretend I don't see the supreme quality just because she is not my top favourite.

I guess your problem is with the huge PCs inflation. I realize it as well and find it problematic, too. Alina's PCs, which appeared to be higher than Satoko's, are questionable. But this is the only way for her to take the lead, since 40+ TES alone won't bring her to the top. But this discussion gets really off topic. PCs inflation is due to the current scoring system. I know many people on this forum keep complaining about undeserved PCs but let's be truthful - no matter how loud those complaints are, always when someone has good SS and presentation (for ex. Zhenya or Kostner) and kind of wonky jumps, than they bash the skaters for not being technical superior and therefore label them as not deserving to take the lead. It's all hypocrisy because despite the complaints people actually tend to enjoy jumps more and to value the programmes based on the TES. :otopic:

Doesn't mean every one should support this kind of judging. In the end, it's not fair judging.
The current scoring system has its rules that are not applied. That's the problem.

Enjoy or not there're rules that need to be applied.
Btw do you guys know there're more things written in the handbook for pcs judging than "that's the scores judges can give as they like"
But whatever end of topic.

Saying this doesn’t take ANYTHING away from how incredible Evgenia is. Taking silver wouldn’t make her any less amazing. Her WR being broken doesn’t change the absolute dominance of the past 2 years, nor does it diminish her accomplishments. Nobody thinks Yuna and Mao aren’t great because their scores have been topped.

One doesn't necessarily have to win the Olympics to still be considered a legend.
Regardless of how they both do in the FS, they're both spectacular.

Figure skaters...spend all those years training, injured, get up again, their fates rest on the fact which fed they're from and who the judges likes best.
Why do I even get into this sport.

Guys. Stop. Stop. Please. Take a moment and take a deep breath. Remember what I told you about the haters. Don't let it affect you. It doesn't effect Evgenia. Remember something...repeat it after me...

The Tsarina is still the Tsarina.

Figure skating is a weird animal of a sport. It's not like hockey or baseball. You don't have a very clear winner declared on performance but based on judges who are people with opinions and scores and even rules to judging. BUT, figure skating really isn't about medals. Don't get me wrong. I want Evgenia to win the gold to cap these amazing few seasons. I want it for history's sake. BUT, figure skating is about the performance. It's an ART. Evgenia skated an amazing short program. There is this phrase that they use in the anime "Your Lie in April" that goes "did it reach you?" That is what the figure skater, the real figure skater, asks after every program. "Did it reach them?" Did it reach her audience? Did it inspire you? Did it bring you into the moment? Did the story she unfolded unravel your heart and lift your mind into her world for those few moments of time? Did she connect with you in what she was trying to display? And is anybody quite able to do that like Evgenia? It is why I call her the Tsarina. Not because of the accomplishments scored by judges and the awards and accolades, but because of the measure and beauty and inspiring nature of her performances.

Evgenia skated an amazing program. She will skate an amazing long program. One of the commentators last night stated how important fans are to a skater. If any of these negatives about medals is in Evgenia's mind right now, then she needs you. She needs your support. She needs to know that "Yes, indeed, she reaches you." And you are ready for her next performance. Not because she might win a gold but because you are going to get to see her perform a long program on an international stage with the entire world able to see her, be inspired by her, and witness her artistry in action. She can reach them too. No matter the medal. She can be remembered.

So I ask you all a question here, for your support of Evgenia, for that real reason why you first became a fan of hers no matter how long or short that you have been witnessing her performances. I am asking you, "Did she reach you?"

TAT's opinion https://m.sports.ru/amp/news/1060471541/?__twitter_impression=true

In short, she prefers Zhenya and wanted her to lead, but she recognizes that Alina atm might be too powerful to be defeated thanks to her technical content. She praises Zhenya for all the hardship she faced and won this season and she wishes her to continue for a long time like Kostner :)

That's a really good interview of TAT. She bassicaly prooves all our concernes regaridng young champions especially in women field.
This statemtes says it all:
-"Why should I consider normal when an athlete has to end a career when he/she was under twenty?" TAT (c)

It was clear to me after Team event, that Alina would lead, her PCS were too high but that's sport I guess...and Alina is now in an amazing shape so fair enouhg for her, well done!

However, I am still so so proud of Zhenya, she is fighting and showing clean performances in 3d year despite the injury, puberty, pressure, expectations, all hustle with a doping scandal and the extreme level of completeness in the field!

Please show your best skate in Free, just enjoy this Olympics and be proud fo yourself!:hap10:

I really hope she will stay! I mean that's would be a joke if even she has to retire, after this Olympics there would hardly any women after 18 in the field...:slink:

P.S. I have so many questions to her team. I think they didn't work out in advance her content, it should have been done after Worlds'17, she should have tried to include loop combo in the team event'17...and after that was an epic fail with Averbuch FP....I don't think this program bad, but all music cuts and layout was messed up like they didn't spend much time with making a program or really thinking about it imho....Anyway that's all history now...

I thought I was in Alina's FF for a second.

Anyway, I told you a long time ago this was a possibility. RusFed dropped Zhenya and went with Alina. Unless something happens with Alina herself, it was all decided way before this competition even began.

In all of this, I'm mostly just disappointed that once again, I'm reminded how terrible RusFed is. Other Feds, for all their faults, they do support their skaters while RusFed drops them like yesterday's garbage. Ah well. I guess it is what it is.

Anyway, since Zhenya's dealing with more injuries, I just wish her a great, clean skate if she can pull that off somehow. If she's been demonstrating anything consistently, it's actually what an amazing person she is, so everything crossed that she can at least look back at this entire mess and know that she couldn't have done any better. Everything else is out of her hands. Plus, a gold OGM is never a measure of anything, no matter how much we are happy or sad when our faves win or lose.

Yatagarasu, I have to say I cannot disagree with you. You were saying it all season (as well as my Auntie, me and her a long time figure skating fans) and yes, I think starting with Cup of China that was the deal.

Today I realised I like Zhenya more than Alina. At first I was indifferent as to who would win the ogm because I loved them equally, but when Alina's scores came out, a little part of me died inside. In my heart Zhenya is my gold medalist and I hope she has a long career, whether she wins or not. In my opinion, she has the attitude of a true champion.

Yes this is exactly what I also want for her, to look back with no regrets and to be happy with the way she skated! Everything else she can’t control. I hope she will deliver the Fs of a lifetime tomorrow

I hope she does get a long career, but I doubt Rusfed would support her for long since the juniors are coming up with huge tes content, and you know how quick they drop an athlete when there're new stars. I hope she'd be able to upgrade her tes for next season without getting injured for sure!
