I don’t know if it’s been posted here yet, but Johnny Weir posted a vid of himself skating to Anna Karenina and Zhenya commented on it with “need to perform it together” and he replied “I’m ready”

I hope they really do make it happen.:laugh:

Zhenya could not believe it, she was touched, ohhww my baby. She is such a lucky girl, she is loved by so many people around the world :ghug:
 
How Medvedeva and all the other skaters can afford skating? :o this is a thing I’ve been wondering since the very beginning because figure skating seems to be an extremely expensive sport.. and skaters cannot have a full time job besides skating.

It depends, but top level skaters like Evgenia do receive some state funding, and then they rely on sponsorships, winnings and ice shows.

As far as I know, in Russia high performance athletes are protected by the State, and they receive a salary from the Sports Federation of their country, as well as sports equipment. In addition, if the athlete is already internationally prominent obviously has sponsors who support him. Evgenia and other kids doesn't have to pay for classe, because Sambo 70 it's a State Olympic reserve.And the coaches, like Eteri, receive their salary from the State and not from the skaters themselves. It'ss different in USA, Canada, where Orser gives private lessons and is hired by the athletes themselves.


But when they first start, and skating in a neighborhood club, obviously they have to pay for their lessons, as they advance and gain notoriety in the circuit, I assume that the Federation takes care of them and move to a famous club like CSKA or Sambo . There are also private academies like those of Plushenko, but it also scholarship to promising students.


I think Russia has great protection in its athletes, BUT the environment is ultra competitive, and they have to keep up to keep those benefits.

I am not sure but that old lady who is standing at the door didn't know who is Zhenya. Funny. During interview Zhenya's voice changed or I have problem with hearing?
It was that rare moment when I wanted to be Russian in Moscow:biggrin:

It's similar in many countries in Europe, in my country sport clubs for children and young people are funded by state or municipality, kids (I mean parents) pay only some membership fees, till they start to do it as professionals. However there is still some state sponsorship for atheles representing internationally. Or at least it was that way,at least in my country public support of children sport is decreasing (one of the reasons why our ice hockey is not what it was :( ). The other way of sport supporting is the army, many of our athletes are officially soldiers (although some of them see uniform like once per year :) ).

no, you have no problem with hearing:) but i do not know why...maybe the technic.
