ps. why people think Zhenya nad Alina are best friends, I doubt they are. sport isn't about smilling and loving each other but about winning(not analyzing Eteri smile)

Do you know they basically grow up together? They may not be "best" friends but friends nonetheless. And how can it be bearable if they suffer a tense atmosphere everyday? Especially for young girls.
I was in a prep school and basically everyone was fighting for a spot in good colleges. But we get along well, even though ranking is another matter.

Alina moved in 2015 to Eteri group. It is far from growing up together. Did you see any pics/videos on instagram with Alina an Zhenya during Olympic games? only during training/offical meetings. She is close with Bobrova and you can see many pics with her. She is not that close with Alina, just training together in one team( yes, they are teammates), you are not close with every person in class(classmates) or work(workmates). Zhenya is a professionalist and helps when she can and cares about good relations in her team because it is important to have good results( she said that during interview with Yagudin) I don't know why it is important to people that Eteri must like Alina or Zhenya must be friend with Alina. They are professional athlets not people who must be friends. Their goal is to achieve good result/train not feelings. You are not going to work to make friends. They respect each other of course, talk and work.

Friendship is something stronger at least should be(in era of facebook it means people you know I guess, in that shallow meaning, yes, Zhenya and Alina are friends).

I guess Russian fans want this fairytale about two first ladies being BFFs.

I think Alina adore Evgenia for her achievements... but they are bit apart in age (in teens few year matter a lot) to be truly BFFs.

Doesn't matter. They are very different girls/ladies and they are great in their own ways.
 
@r2d2 well said, everyone should watch the yagudin interview. I think she speaks there very open how the relationship with alina function.
 
I see ppl have very high requirements of being friends, im pretty simple though, sort of people i can hang out with.

Degree of closeness is different among friends, one can be closer to some so there're terms like "close friends", "best friends", "normal friends" . Not like it have to be super super close to be friends.

I see alina and zhenya as not like "close friends" but still far from mere "acquaintances".

I spend 2 years in my childhood with some before moving away. We shared a part of childhood, still see it as growing up together since 2 years seems very long to kids. Time pass like in a blink of eyes when you're older but when I was younger "next year" seemed like an eternity, the people I spent ike 3 months with seemed like I'd known them forever, especially when we get along well enough.

Welp, end this talk. Speculating people relationships leads to no where since you will never know.
 
Its great that 2 great rivals like Zhenya and Alina are great skaters and good friends. I have never seen this in figure skating before amongbtrue rivals. Michelle and Tara? No. Tonya and Nancy? No. Yagudin and Plushenko? Nyet. Sasha and Alena may be the same way as Zhenya and Alina. They are good people and great skaters. Can you magine the competition in Russian ladies the next couple years? All we should do is enjoy it and not fret over results. But in 2 years they could have the top 4 ladies if health is good.

I keep seeing pics on twitter but I don’t know what’s going on.
I’m guessing they presented her with a fan made Olympic gold medal (YOI inspired of course) which she posted on her IG story.
There’s also a picture of her tearing up.
Would be thankful if some Russian fans clarify :luv17:

Yes, her fans organized and made a medal “Champion of our hearts”.
 
She was so emotional:love:... I think it's really wonderful that she can feel the support and the love of the people who appreciate her spirit, her skating, everything.
