Evgenia Medvedeva

Probably not. But in this video, Zhenya was not sarcastic. About "bossy" - it was completely incomprehensible (and, in my opinion, completely unreasonable) comment Sivush.
Stop taking about "sarcastic", "dark humor" - it's just not true. In this video was nice, sweet Zhenya. And language barrier.

I don‘t want to be rude but given your language barrier, I think you might not understand the exact definition of sarcasm? Zhenya was sarcastic in this video from what I‘ve seen AND nice. Yes, this does indeed work as I’m going to tell you something surprising: Sarcasm is not evil. ;)

Also, when the whole rumors about changing coach first started and Eteri talked badly about Zhenya on National TV, Zhenya later liked a post on Twitter.

I think it was this one. Do you now understand what we meant when we pointed out her sharp humor? This girl is savage and that‘s what a lot of us on here LOVE about her. So, yes, we will continue to talk about that because it‘s the way she is and it‘s great. So please just stop accusing us of something like this because EVERYONE in this thread is a great admirer of Evgenia Medvedeva. Thank you! :)

The problem is definitely not you, Mrs P! I'm a fan of your posts and I really liked your observation about her sense of humour. Please keep commenting ;)

Same! Your posts are great, Mrs P, don‘t change anything about them. And I love Zhenya‘s and Jason‘s friendship as well for the reasons you pointed out. And it‘s so cool that you have a comedian as a friend. And even more that Zhenya reminds you of him/her. That‘s really a big compliment. Only if the comedian in question is good, though, of course.

My friend is quite funny! She’s really gotten into more political comedy and it’s really a draw to people in her city. So yes a high compliment to Zhenya!!!

Also OT, Jason is no stranger to having sarcastic people as friends. One of his good friends is the U.S. men skater Grant Hochstein. Jason is going to be in his wedding this summer. Anyway Grant is always making sarcastic remarks about Jason’s tweets, like this one: https://twitter.com/grant_hochstein/status/1014484511776575488?s=21

Jason liked the tweet, so clearly he doesn’t mind a bit of jabbing lol.

I can but I'd rather not to. For me personally as for fan of Zhenya long ago before Olympics it is rather obvious. And to be a bit! bossy or in the other words to have some traits of leader is not harmful for being top skater even for a girl. As I personally think it is one of her driving force. And it is useful not to forget they are all just girls not angels and not obliged to be.

"Bossy", really?

If you want to know how "Bossy" really looks like, see how Pogorilaya behaves with Zhenya:

Slaps her when Zhenya accidentally doing little mistake in the pronunciation of her last name.
Arrogantly says "do not interrupt me" when Zhenya tryed mitigate the situation with a joke.

Look at the subsequent reaction of Zhenya - shy "ok". She is home, polite child, not "bossy".

P.S. Just in case - i translate your "bossy" in russian like "начальственно", "с замашками вожака" - i mean slightly with negativ connotations.

Yes Mrs. P I also enjoy reading your posts. Having a wicked sense of humour is an awesome trait in my opinion. Humour transcends borders and barriers! I for one love Zhenya’s sense of humour and she has amazing timing!

I think any reasonably good English speaker can understand a bit of friendly sarcasm/banter, let alone a native speaker like Jason. In the UK, sarcasm is actually PROOF of friendship - we only tease the people we like :p

Dear Orlov, many users have already explained to you that none of the comments was made with any bad intentions toward Zhenya whatsoever. Why do you feel the need to constantly bring this one small remark up again? This is her FAN FEST. We love her here. Go to the Russian Ladies thread if you want to defend her, that‘s where it‘s probably needed. But here? We‘re all calm and peaceful here so please do not bring this negativity into Zhenya‘s thread. We value support and love for our favourite skater, nothing else. Stop saying otherwise, it really isn‘t the truth and there‘s no need to continue arguing about it. We, or I at least, also do not want to see negative portrayal of other skaters here. Anna and Zhenya get along well, we‘ve seen this on a couple of occasions and everything else is not our business anyway and certainly doesn’t belong here. Thanks again as I really, really do not want to have to start the same approach I felt was necessary in the Russian ladies thread: to ignore certain posts on purpose. I do not want this to happen here. :)

Also I have to post this old Grant/Jason interview for yoloaxel! Look at Grant’s shirt!

Isn’t Zhenya a Gryffindor?! :)

Anyway, just wanted to point out the similarity in friendship dynamics. :)

Well, there‘s actually this thread

https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?73774-Hogwarts-Tournament-of-FS/page10

and according to most users she‘s a Slytherin. She herself seems to have a different opinion about this but I‘m okay with both. She‘s cunning and ambitious yet also clearly brave and determined. Maybe we can settle on a mix? Grytherin... Slythindor... Ok, no, that sounds terrible.

And the similarity in friendship dynamics is really striking! They‘re funny, the two of them. :)

Also might I say I adore dry British wit!!! Some of the most wickedly funny people I know are brits.

This. In the UK being sarcastic is what is expected especially amongst friends and any English speaker will get it. I personally am very sarcastic tho and do run into trouble with people from foreign countries who don’t understand English that well though. If you don’t have the banter and the ability to have good chat then you are going to struggle.

I think she has both Gryffindor and (maybe) Slytherin in her, but the sorting hat would also take Zhenya's opinion into consideration, something it did with a certain other famous individual ... [emoji6]

I reckon she would be put in Gryffindor. [emoji4]

I'll just try to explain the "sarcastic" part. Since my native language is in the Slavic family of languages, I can kind of understand why you might be confused. The difference between irony and sarcasm as I was taught in school, is in the sense that sarcasm is when you try to intentionally say something hurtful or bad about/to the other person. So my suggestion is to think about Evgenia as making ironic comments.
As I'm truly fluent in English, I understand what they meant, but I thought I should give it a go to try to explain to you. And please, please just try to remember that they didn't say it to say bad things about her.

I'm glad you appreciate it! It's just our default mode and, as SkySkater said, we sometimes get into trouble with people from other cultures because of it :p

Zhenya likes British shows like Sherlock, so I hope she's not averse to the British sense of humour, either ;)

Yes, this is "sarcasm" for me. Do you mean that when the English say "sarcasm" they mean "irony"? For me, even "irony" is an excessive word for this video. Zhenya just cute joked as usual we joke. The "irony" is already something more serious, for me. But thanks for this comment - very helpful.

tbh, I did not even think so. I just thought (and I continue to think) that they badly "read" intonations which in Russian little different - Zhenya was in "Russian mode" (cuz she spoke with the Russian audience). I had an experience of communication with a foreigners - you unconsciously go into a "simplified mode" with "international" intonationes. Otherwise, small misunderstandings are possible. Also in this video was a fairly simple translation - even I can see it.

Yeah, and assuming that she does ACI we'll see them September 20... I can't wait to know the music though

Edit: UNLESS she does Russian test skates in early sept

Will we be able to watch her at those test skates, or is it completely closed to public and no picture goes out? That'd be so sad if we had to wait for even longer :dev2:

Okay, however we saw Evgenia's humor can we just agree we all enjoy her? That is the core point. No need to hyperanalyze it.

She makes me laugh, okay? End of story.

From what I remember, Senior test skates are always open to the public. People in the audience always film and post, some even livestream. It’s not the best quality ever, but we get to see the programs at least.

So on a more positive note what music do you want Zhenya to skate to. Lots of people seem to want a tango which I am dubious about until I hear the recommended music but it could be cool. Something a bit like kushka could be awesome because it would be different and if she has more power in her skating that could be really powerful. Personally tho I’m hoping that Jason can get her into broadway as there are some show tunes I would die if she skated to.

I do think though she should have at least one of them be quite ‘Russian sain’ in theme if I can say that just to remind everyone that despite her training in Canada she is still Russian if that makes sense.

Hamilton! Just kidding. (Or not..)

Speaking of which, maybe Lin-Manuel Miranda’s older musical, “In the Heights?” Lots of fun upbeat Latin music. I would love her to do Latin actually.

She seems very set on showing a different side of her skating, and do something she’s never done before.

Personally, I would for her to have a subtle program to classical music never used before in skating. IMO, that suits the lovely fragile quality she has to her skating.
