Evgenia Medvedeva

It’s OK Orlov, if anything TCC people will appreciate her even more because based on LucyH’s post her humor is similar to Canadians’

It’s a very good thing.
She have normal humor. I do not know what you mean.

So DOI is 6-7-8 July, right? I'm assuming she'll go straight back to Canada afterwards... do you guys think we'll get a first look at her new SP in Japan or no?

Can’t wait neither ! Yes, she said she wanted to do test skates, right ? So we might see her sooner.

Okey. Just Google translating "wickedly sense of humor" so, sooo not good, that i'm kind of shocked. And this words about "sarcastic"... Zhenya never was sarcastic in this video (at least what we call this word in Russia). Maybe it's all about language barrier.

I can translate for you "wickedly" means in this context "чертовски хорошее". It is useful to keep in mind that English is also human deep complex language which has its own nuances what machine translation aka Google Translate can't transfer properly. If something is confusing it could helpful to use more flexible options for checking like "Urban Dictionary" or just to check with native speaker before building barricades.
As for the topic it would be really interesting as far as Zhenya will be mastering English her real character which is kind of bossy and with really dark humor will appear for non-Russian speakers.

I know this is very offtopic but what helped me most with learning English (or any language, really) was to read books. At first it seemed like an improbable challenge to even get through it without needing google translate but if you do it for a while you sort of get used to it. Or at least that was what I felt. And also there‘s the bonus that you immediately get to experience how humor is used in this language, you get a bit of a feeling for it.

As for Zhenya, I‘d say she is definitely a fast learner and naturally talented. Even if an English speaking environment certainly helps, her skills have improved vastly in such a short amount of time that it‘s really amazing to see. You can still hear an accent swinging in her voice but she definitely uses different pronounciation and you don‘t have any trouble in understanding her whatsoever. Just look at the post Olympic interviews and notice the difference! It‘s truly remarkable.

"bossy"? any examples?

Honest question, Orlov: What are you doing here? This thread is for fans, and you made clear in the Russian ladies thread how much you dislike Zhenya. Now you're nitpicking her words when everybody else is cool with what she said. What's your game? I'm genuinely confused.

First, i don't like that you trying to forbid me to be here.
Second, Zhenya is not indifferent to me. I have the right to explain nothing to you, but okey, i wrote:
"...and I became a fan of Zhenya, just really-really fan.
But now, i'm not (although, I vaguely feel that a piece of love for her still lives somewhere inside me)."

People are complicated creatures. You're trying to drive me into your dual world view. And this is only your private opinion that "Orlov dislike Zhenya." I'm not.

No, I'm, blin, confused! when i "nitpicking her words"?! In this thread attack Zhenya - "sarcastic", "bossy" (no sarcastic, no bossy), i'm trying to protect her, and suddenly get accusations "nitpicking her words"!!

Jason is definitely the sunny, All-American boy, and Zhenya has referenced that in the past and she kind of plays that in the video referring to him as “The American” and making teasing jabs at his reaction to Kvass and such.

As to how Jason and others will react to her dark humor when she picks it up more in her English speaking, I don’t think it will be a problem. People like people who are funny and as long as she is not truly mean, it shouldn’t be a problem. Actually I’d say her humor is similar to Alex Shibutani, which is why I think they get along well. In fact, I think Alex picked on it quickly, which is why she is in their videos!

This shouldn’t be taking as a shipping thing but I have a similar dynamic with my husband. I’m a lot like Jason, really extroverted, bright and outgoing. My husband is extremely sarcastic and makes jokes about me all the time. I think we get along well because we play off each other.

What. Are. You. All. Taking. About?
Somebody can explain to me?

Please, people, please, no accusations of hate in this thread! And also no hate obviously. We have enough of that in the Russian Ladies‘ thread, Zhenya’s fanfest is supposed to be the peaceful haven for everyone! :)

And specifically @Orlov: No one in this thread is or was attacking Zhenya. We‘re her fans and „sarcastic“ was never meant in a mean way. Personally, I like sarcastic people as I tend to be one of them, so nope, nobody is insulting anyone, just telling the truth. ;) The bossy thing I don’t understand myself but really, maybe it’s a language thing and the user will explain him/herself. We all have to remember that we’re from different places all over the world and while this is a beautiful thing that we’re here joining in our deep admiration for our great Evgenia Medvedeva, very few of us are English native speakers. So, often, things can be perceived wrongly and I think that‘s the case in this particular situation. Nobody meant any harm to Zhenya, or insult her, we‘re gathered here as fans and there‘s no need for anybody to be left out, or pushed and driven away. You‘re very welcome here as is everybody else if he or she is respectful. I think this is a misunderstanding and we should probably move on. Let‘s just talk about something else. Make predictions for Zhenya‘s new short program! They can be ridiculous or just any thoughts/wishes you have so that we can endure the (quite painful) anticipation in waiting for some news about them better. Or something else. Just move on.

And I‘m sorry if I seem a little overdramatic or something but Zhenya‘s thread is always so calm and supporting and I don‘t want the kind of fights there are in Russian Ladies thread to appear here, too.

To be clear, I love Zhenya and I didn’t mean to give anyone else the wrong idea. She is making me happy with her humor and as a long-time fan of Jason’s, I just love this new dynamic cause it’s clear it’s bringing him joy.

I’ll let this topic drop, but that makes me sad cause I really am a lover of comedy and I just wanted to appreciate that aspect of Zhenya. She actually reminds me of a really good friend of mine (who is a comedianne!) so that’s part why I like too.

But being sarcastic or bossy isn’t necessarily abad thing? You can have sharp sense of humour without being offensive and a lot of people actually appreciate it because people who are sarcastic are usually also the ones you can tease without being afraid they will get mad. And being bossy is also a good thing if you don’t act like some kind of Duchess. It’s a trait of charismatic people and Zhenya is definitely this kind of person. I don’t see anything negative or offensive in the way she acted in her instalive

I can but I'd rather not to. For me personally as for fan of Zhenya long ago before Olympics it is rather obvious. And to be a bit! bossy or in the other words to have some traits of leader is not harmful for being top skater even for a girl. As I personally think it is one of her driving force. And it is useful not to forget they are all just girls not angels and not obliged to be.

Probably not. But in this video, Zhenya was not sarcastic. About "bossy" - it was completely incomprehensible (and, in my opinion, completely unreasonable) comment Sivush.
Stop taking about "sarcastic", "dark humor" - it's just not true. In this video was nice, sweet Zhenya. And language barrier.

The problem is definitely not you, Mrs P! I'm a fan of your posts and I really liked your observation about her sense of humour. Please keep commenting ;)

I’ll grant you that I’m at the mercy of the person who translated it because I don’t speak Russian, but I have no reason to believe that the translator was out to paint Zhenya in a certain way that wasn’t accurate. In addition it’s not just the what she is saying that forms my thoughts but also her visual cues, i.e. the way she looks at the camera, her gestures.

I’ve also picked these things up in her tweets with Alex Shibutani and her funny glances in the Shibsibs videos.

And for the record you can be both a sweet person and be funny and sarcastic. Humans are complex beings. :)
