Evgenia Medvedeva

OMG What a lovely interview! I hope she doesn't get (even more) Russian hate for saying that Canada is a quieter environment to train and Japan is her favourite country

Interesting what she says about sessions vs training, anybody knows what she means by 'sessions'? Are those like skating skills class or conditioning class?

Meh, it seems no matter what she does, she's gonna get hate for it anyway, even when she was winning everything for their countries, i still found some weird people hating on russian websites :drama: so she might as well just keep being her happy self

About sessions, having watched a lot of videos of TCC skaters training before, it seems they have these skating classes where everybody kinda gets together and they do some kind of "follow the coach" thing together. I guess that's what the sessions are? Remember the very first IG video of evgenia training at tcc? i think that's what she calls sessions https://twitter.com/sara8570/status/1008946795475435522/video/1

Other than those group sessions, as Brian said many times in his interviews, he lets the skaters find their own rhythm and skate on their own term. If you want to skate you skate, if not, you don't skate. He lets them be independent. He has a clear schedule for when he has to focus on a particular skater but apart from that they train when and how they want and the coaching team watches them, helps them.

I see! Thanks for the reply! :)

In most rinks, freestyle ice time (paid training / practice time for skaters) is divided into “sessions” - basically blocks of time. It sounds like in her old rink in Russia, each session was 1-1/2 hours long and she would attend two sessions per day. Her sessions at TCC are shorter - she didn’t say how long, but let’s say they’re 1 hour - but she skates on more sessions. So her total time on the ice at TCC may be shorter, longer, or the same as in Russia, but the system is different and she’s still getting used to it.

She didn’t say what she did during the sessions in Russia or at TCC, but it’s likely that at TCC, during one session she might have a private lesson with Brian; during another she migh take a stroking class; during another she might take a spin class or or have a private lesson with a jump coach who uses Dartfish (special technology that allows skaters/coaches to see what they’re doing wrong with a jump - helps them figure out how to correct it); during another she might just practice what she’s learning or run her programs, etc. It’s probably a little different every day. Here are a couple of things that talk a bit about the training at TCC:

Website (there’s a brochure for the summer program linked in lower right corner - not sure how much of what’s described here applies to elite skaters like Zhenya):

I don't know if she'll be successful in Toronto, but if she's happy there that's the main thing, and she definitely seems to be :yahoo:

The only thing we need now is the announcement of her programs ! :hap85:

Thanks for the explanation! But what does she mean with "there's less time for training"? Wouldn't the sessions be considered training?

So, I only just watched the John Wilson interview and it‘s great! Honestly, I love Zhenya‘s personality so much. She‘s so nice and funny and I‘m so glad to see her smile so sincerely. And I especially loved this moment:

„Last question: Silver or gold?“

„You asked that already. It‘s always gold!“

She‘s our golden girl after all. :)

And about the training time issue: I think she meant that while the sessions are shorter there are more of them than in Russia so she basically has about the same time just spread out differently through the day and that‘s what she needs to get used to.

So with Eteri they would have longer training sessions (1h30 per session), while at TCC they have shorter sessions but more frequently :)
