Evgenia Medvedeva

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ItdIcjO608 just heard this piece, it would make a good beginning for a FS and it could be attached to something more powerful.

I guess it's similar to what she's done before though?

i know moonlight sonata isn't quite a warhorse but is a relatively frequently used piece, and i heard it the other day and evgenia popped in my mind. the drama of that piece would be so perfect for her.

I like moonlight sonata, especially the intro.
It is a very good piece to combine with other music, like Alyona Kanysheva's SP. To use only the sonata it would be a bit boring in my opinion, there is little dynamic to be explored.

This is the bit that I'm struggling with: she says 'lesser time for practice, but more sessions': https://youtu.be/MelmS0brIBc?t=124
Does she mean she spends less time at TCC than she used to at Sambo, but she does more sessions within the time she's there?

I think you're correct, I remember Orser saying in one interview that they practiced with less time but that they used it at its fullest
And I guess it's understandble since it's a private club and they charge for hour
Something like this I guess? (Pure speculation)
Sambo70: 4 hours with two sessions
TCC: 3 hours with four sessions

I see! So it's quality instead of quantity :)

Thanks for the explanation! But what does she mean with "there's less time for training"? Wouldn't the sessions be considered training?

Hard to say. Maybe she just means that the sessions are shorter. But I think also I read that that at TCC skaters do fewer program run throughs than in Russia. So maybe she means that.

She probably puts in the same amount of time overall per day, but she might get less time on the ice, even though she steps on the ice more frequently. For example, Eteri had her on the ice twice a day for 1 1/2 hours per session and a total of 3 hours on the ice per 8-hour training day, the rest of it spent in dance class, practicing jumps in the gym, doing weight training and other exercises, and reviewing her technique on film or whatever else they do all day. Brian might have her on the ice four times a day, but only for 40 minutes per session for a total of 2 hours and 20 minutes, 40 minutes less than Eteri gave her on the ice (I am completely making Brian's numbers up based on nothing at all except her statement that she gets less time but more sessions), and the rest of her 8 hour day (when not changing in and out of her skates over and over again) is spent in dance, exercise, and whatever.

She did say that Brian has her doing some different exercises, so maybe the lost ice time is spent at the gym doing these new exercises, or maybe he just has a shorter training day than Eteri, but really, I would assume that his training takes up about the same overall amount of time, he just gives his students a bit less ice time.

As far as i understand it she means the sessions are shorter.
One Session in Russia=90 min
One Session at TCC= 45min or 60min (speculation)
https://pp.userapi.com/c850016/v850016289/2a0de/urHJiwo805o.jpgThis session at TCC was for example 45 min long

So according to the summer skating program document, the group considered Elite is called Innsbruck (they name the groups after Olympic destinations, cute!). Officially that group has 3 sessions on Mondays and Wednesday (ranging from 45 to 60 minutes = 2.5 hours), 2 sessions Tuesday and Thursday (ranging from 60 minutes each - 2 hours) and Friday (45-60 min so 1 hour and 45 minutes) and back-to-back sessions on Saturday (60 and 75 minutes= 2 hours and 15 minutes)

And that doesn't include any sessions that group might be doing at the other rink. But the TCC ice time is less, both in the length of session and total ice time compared to Sambo 70.

There are also two off-ice sessions (in the gym) of 45 minutes each, back-to-back from 2-4 p.m.

Hmmm interesting. She also said the TCC way with shorter sessions is hard, I bet the sessions are short but rather intense!

Zhenya posted on IG that she found a bottle of Patrick Chan's sparkling wine! Even though she doesn't drink she seemed very excited about her discovery ahah

No Japan Open for her this year.

To be honest, I'm more than okay with this. She needs to stay in Toronto and get some continuity in her training there without flying all the way to Japan for a competition that doesnìt win her ISU points :) I like JO but it doesn't sound like a wise option for her this year. Much better to do something like ACI that's closer to her!

Zhenya gets a mention from Serafima Sakhanovich in the latest GS article:
https://goldenskate.com/2018/07/fresh-start-for-russias-serafima-sakhanovich/

“Zhenia (Evgenia) really motivated me,” said the skater, who turned 18 in February. “I got motivated, because I watched her (Medvedeva) and I saw how hard it is for her and that she managed. I was happy for her to see how she was able to overcome herself, because she skated very well in the free.”

Sakhanovich was also impressed by the men, especially by Deniss Vasilijevs of Latvia. She didn’t watch the Olympic Games on TV, but she followed the results and sent Medvedeva a message, congratulating her and the two renewed their contact.

Even though I wasn't a huge fan of Zhenya back then (when she was in juniors), I always loved the Sima/Zhenya friendship and was sad when that seem to disappear after Sima left Eteri. I've noticed Sima and Zheyna giving each other love on IG, so I'm thrilled to hear they're been able to rekindle that friendship!

This is very sweet! And yes, I have noticed their positive interaction on IG as well :) I hope they both have wonderful seasons!

That’s so adorable, I also love their friendship and how Sima always comments on Zhenya’s posts or lives. I wish her and Evgenia a successful season ❤️
