Evgenia Medvedeva

A couple of years ago, asked about acclimatization, Zhenya said that she had never had any problems going to North America, but going back to Europe had always been difficult. Apparently, it used to take her about 2 weeks to be her normal again. It might have changed since, but I do hope she will arrive earlier.

I travel at least twice a year to Asia from the U.S. and take at least three days to really fully adjust my body clock. I don't know how these athletes do this, but hopefully Evgenia has, all these years, figured out the best way to adjust the quickest. It seems like the Japanese team go to the place of competition quite early and are able to find a rink where its skaters can practice. I think that's really smart.

For me going back is always worse, especially going back from Europe. Let's hope the same from her - at the end of the comp and going home!

Oh, there's World University Games this season. I completely forgot. Even if she doesn't make it to the worlds team this year, hopefully, she will be able to go there.

I live in Europe, but I go back to Asia and Canada quite often. I don’t really suffer from jet lag but my siblings take around three to four days to adjust to the new time zone. I hope Zhenya arrives Moscow a few days prior to the official practices and recharges both physically and mentally to produce amazing performances at nationals!

I hope they do it smartly and arrive early. None of the other girls will have a problem with jetlag, she‘s the only one. And we saw how jetlag can rattle skaters at GPF. She needs time to adjust and I hope they‘re willing to give it to her.

@grey19: Do you mean the Winter Universiade or something else? I‘d like to see her there if she doesn‘t go to Worlds this year.

Yes, it will take place from 2-12 March 2019 in Russia (Krasnoyarsk)

It also depends on the flight times. When I flew to Australia and back I had those were I did not have a jetlag at all (both times)

I hope she can go there then. It won‘t be the same stress as Worlds and she can still get some competitive experience and has chance at a medal and some price money that will be important for paying training and living in Canada.

At this point I‘m not even thinking about podium at Nationals anymore. This season is rough and I have accepted it. She needs time and I’m willing to give it to her. The only thing that‘s important is to somehow be in the top 6 to still be on the national team next year and receive funding. Assuming Alina, Sofia, Alena, Sasha and Anna all finish above her, that will still be the 6th place.

It also can be that she is better than Sofia if she delivers clean programms. It could also be that even alina won't podium, if all 3 juniors go clean for example. I think everything is possible here

I think they will make sure Alina at least podiums. They‘d likely knock of Alena, who doesn‘t have quads and give her lower PCS than Alina. I‘m 99% sure that if Alina goes clean, she‘ll be National Champion or at least Silver medalist regardless of what Shcherbakobva and Trusova do. But they still can and probably wll fill the other two spots on the podium.

If Zhenya is clean, she surely has a better scoring potential than Sofia. But there‘s that if. Well, let‘s just see. Like I said, I only hope she makes the top 6th and with everything else better than that I‘ll be more than happy.

Well but only if alina is clean, and she has some problems at the moment what's with underrotation, and her combo. If alena skates as she did last week alena has a chance to even place before alina. In my eyes at least. But hey while I do like alina , zhenya is my fav and alena is quickly becoming my second favourite. Forme she delivers her programmsbett3r than alina at the moment

Alina was injured right before her skate at the GPF, though, I think we have to consider that. She tripped over a television cable and twisted her ankle. It‘s only a minor injury and she‘s fine again but I do we that this contributed to her FS looking more shaky than usually.

I like all three of them and it truly depends on who is cleanest that day. I honestly can‘t make any predictions right now because so many things can and probably will happen.

I meant at the entire gp series. Alina had a few underotations and at some problems with on of her combos. Not only in the final.

And I just don't like alinas sp, not because of her but because for me the music cuts are to horrible, phantom is a masterpiece in itself and for me the music cuts completely destroy it, it is also that I don't get the feels from alina which I associate with phantom at all. And while the dress is beautiful in itself I just don't get a connection to Christine. And we'll alena she not only delivers but also skates with a grace and like zhenya she takes the viewerwith her on the ride, her emotions come across and that is what for me isn't there with alina. Alina is a beautiful and really great skater no doubt but I just don't get the feelings watching her skate. And that is only my opinion. As I said I do like alina and wish her the best but for those reasons she will never be my favourite.

True. Not to argue with anyone or even undermine how hurt Alina was, but her injury did not seem to bring about any issues that were not already there before her accident.

But I digress. One thing is for sure, this season is full of surprises. I hope Evgenia pleasantly surprises everyone during RusNats.

PS

I am so excited to finally see her (in a week!!!) after what seems like forever!!!

And that is totally okay, she doesn‘t have to be your favourite. We‘re not in her fanfest anyway and you‘re still being respectful by saying she‘s a great skater so... everything‘s fine. :)

About Nationals: I do suspect that if Zhenya‘s flutz won‘t be called, Alina‘s URs won‘t be either. So it’s balanced again.

And you know, what I‘m doing is talking negatively on purpose. I‘m trying to prepare myself for the absolute worst case so that I might be pleasantly surprised. It‘s what I always do, don‘t mind me.
