Well ... after eurpeans ...I think none of the skaters are safe of been replace by the RS ( even sofia or alina).... sofia has consistency but will not win ... alina needs a break ... even with her PCS didn't give her a win in a weak field ....if zhenya can delivery two great programs ( or at least without falls) ... she will be a strong contender to the WT ... if she's skate clean ... judges will give her high PCs ... and can defeat Kira even with a 3A ... I don't think a clean Zhenya won't medal ... Tuk needs her 3A ready for be in WT ...

Ok, now it's official. Decisions about the Worlds team will be made after Cup of Russia

"The federation is going to analyse the results of Europeans", said Gorshkov, "The decision about the roster for Worlds will be made depending on the results of Europeans and the Cup of Russia where we'll be able to take a look at the alternates. After that the coaching board will hand in their suggestions."

Also very relevant for Men's team, I assume, not just for Ladies. But looks like we'll be seeing Zhenya and Liza compete against each other for the spot.

Wow only Europeans and the Russian Cup Final matters? Go Zhenya!

Great thing she has a place in Moscow to practice now, so she doesn't just parachute in the day before the competition (hopefully).

I'm sure they'll take the rest of the season in consideration too, even if Euros and CoR are the most important factors. But we'll see.

Maybe. But the quote below sounds pretty unequivocal to me:

Honestly I worry about Zhenya going to worlds. The pressure is going to be tremendous and she's just getting coincidence back. Liza (if healthy) deserves the spot. But wishing her the best regardless.

It could also be that the 3 spot is either alina or zhenya . And yes it is possible

I know, but they say one thing and in the end do another. There's of course a reason why the two most recent competitions will matter the most... the fed really has a lot to think about, seeing how unpredictable RusNats and now Euros went and they'll want to keep Russia's three spots for next season now more than ever. But sadly Zhenya's season really wasn't good and the fed isn't going to forget it when considering her for Worlds. She'll have to have a super impressive showing at the Cup of Russia to get a chance for a spot.

Okay all the messages are making me dizzy here. So back on track, when “date wise” and “event” will we see zhenya skate again this season? Some people mentioned cup of Russia? When is that event?

There is a good interview with Brian about Zhenya (some questions were :scratch2: tho) he talks about worlds, the difference between junior and senior age, win every comp, social media, the training methods, etc.

Some highlights

"With Zhenya, I also dream to go a long way,” says Brian. "She has everything to pursue a triumphant and long career in the sport."

— Medvedeva points out that for the first time she is faced with a free attitude, where you are not forced to train– if you want improvements, you work for yourself.
— It is. [...] I work with athletes who understand what you need to do to achieve your goals.[...] It is impossible to come to the rink with a 10-minute delay, you need to be on time to warm up. That's my schedule. Point. If not, I'm angry. Javier knew it. It's not that hard. And if the athletes meet all the requirements, you get an unexpected day off. Oh, they enjoy it as children.

— How do you punish your athletes?
– I don't scream, I don't break anything-I'm just angry with myself. At such moments it is very sad that talented people do not do what they can. And athletes can see this. And in such cases, I have a rule; to wait a day to hold a conversation, when emotions will subside. I did not have such situations with Zhenya. She is incredibly motivated every day, and she's just a wonderful person.

She madly loves and respects figure skating, appreciates her fans. There are no problems with adaptation either. Zhenya has very good English, she is very sociable and simply beautiful. We should be able to do it. And you will see it.

The interviewer tried really hard to get something sensationalist from Brian again. Me reading some of the questions:

This is interesting. So the injury was to her upper back based on where those patches are. I always assumed lower back like L5-S1 because it is a common area to injure but then was perplexed how she was able to jump still. This explains why Bielmann is so hard because it requires a high degree of thoracic extension and why she is able to jump still because your upper back is less involved.

I figured it was her lower back too but was confused by the pain relief patches on her upper back at Nationals.

Just chiming in to add that if they were acupuncture patches which they looked like, they wouldn’t necessarily go on the spot where the pain source is located. Acupuncture often treats one part of the body by inserting needles in a different spot (because of the way the body is holistically treated in acupuncture). So I wouldn’t try to diagnose based on the location of the patches. When I injured my lumbar spine, my acupuncturist alleviated a lot of the pain with half a dozen needles in the back of my hands. It seemed strange but it worked. Could be her upper back but could also be another spot aggravating her.

Great interview on Brian's side, he's a true professional. And he already learned not to try and engage in any discourse about Zhenya's old coaching team. Cut that noise right off, although the journalist tried hard to get some dirt.
