Evgenia Medvedeva

There's another interview with Zhenya for the Japanese tv, as I understood, she wanted to do her combo with rippon on 3T. Because she said she wasn't pleased with her combo, it was a difficult one. She started to perform jumps with rippons just a weak ago and because of a shaky flip she had to do a plain 3T. A qoute 'guess it was a reminder from the above no to jump above your head'.
Omg yes her rippons will have a comeback! I am so happy she is using them again and tried to do one in the SP. I loved her rippons.

I hope Evgenia has a clean free skate and skates a SB. I would be sooo happy if she scored a medal. I cannot watch the FS live so I will be very anxious. I will be finished right after the last skate. Hoping that I will not be traumatized when I'll look at the placements on friday XD

Sofia scored 72.88 at Europeans and 70.42 here. 2.46 pts different. If Sofia had scored 72, she still would hv been 6th.

For Evgenia to medal, maybe. To win, very longshot cos the others have higher TES. Rika has 3A, Elizabet 4S, some others hv more difficult combos.
Thanks for the update. World's does have a tougher field than euros.

Yes, it´s to early to jump with Rippon. The 3T needs more height and distance before she should/can jump with rippon at the competition. It´s something to work on in the off-season.

Hopefully Evgenia can grab a medal   But all I really hope for is that she puts out a FS she can be happy with and if she’s clean, she has the potential to medal:hap10:

I‘m not going to talk much about other skaters but Alina and her score looked very strong today. And it‘s not only her, there‘s also Rika who always comes back in the FS and is only 4 points behind as well as Tursynbaeva who all of a sudden doesn‘t seem to need a quad anymore to get really high (PCS) scores. If she manages to get ahead of Kaori, she could end up in 4th altogether and that would be great. However, a medal is not very likely at this point. She would need to be 100% clean because we‘ve seen today that the judges are not willing to overlook anything for her. The gold, if you ask me, is completely out of question. This is not me being pessimistic, it‘s me being realistic. Why would I act as if a gold was likely if it is not at all? But for me that‘s not as important. I would LOVE for her to capture the bronze, of course but the fact that she is here, at the World Championships and has just shown a clean SP is an amazing achievement in itself. I want a clean FS and a happy Zhenya. Everything else is beyond her control. I will root for her, of course, and the judges to get it right. Go, Zhenya and fight!! That‘s all I want. :)
Yes for sure this event can be a turning point for Zhenya. So many skaters bunched up between second and 9th.

Zhenya has to rely on the mistakes of others to medal, let alone win, while being utterly clean herself. She's not in a bad position to medal I think, but a win is a looooooong way to go...

Also, the field at Euros was significantly easier than it is here, Sofia being 9th isn't that big of a surprise, everyone who beat her besides Zhenya and Alina is not European.

She has a good chance to medal. 4th would be okay but sting a bit too. Osmond won last year after those ehead of her bombed.

Can anyone in the second to last group still medal? Rika is still dangerous to score big in the lp.

My first time posting here, and I'm hoping to bring in some positivity because I'm so pleased with how Zhenya skated and her score!

It's important to look back even a month earlier where some were saying her SP score was so high in the Russian cup because of national bias which has been shown to be completely untrue. Even with the UR (and I agree with the judgement) she is at 74.23, and if her program had been perfect it would be 77/78 which is even higher than the Russian Cup. This is the first time Zhenya performed this program in official competition so the PCS is great all things considered even though I think it deserved more! PCS with judges is supposed to get higher with a program as the season progresses, and Zhenya did so well despite not getting that chance. :)

Not to mention Zhenya in 2016-2018 backloaded all jumps in her SP with the added bonus on all 3 jumps which is roughly 2 points. I don't think the judges have been unfair and they are prepared to score her like in previous years how she rightly deserves. If she had made that extra 1/8th rotation, under the previous judging it would be 79/80 so back at her best (assuming she had backloaded everything which she easily could have if allowed).

She's come out 4th in the World Championships SP only 2.5 points behind 2nd place. So proud of her!

Thank you for the positivity! Welcome to Evgenia's FF :)

Realistically, Zagitova will win and then Tursynbayeva and Kihira will fight for 2nd with 4S vs 3A. But I count on Zhenya's PCS to be high if she goes clean, so she can fight for medal if Tursynbayeva or Kihira bomb their big jumps. (I can't wish for Alina to bomb her program, she already struggled mentally in recent months, she deserves to win)

Alina has had problems in her long program all season. I wouldn’t say that she’s a lock to win.

I would say no one is a lock for gold.
But I'm happy Zhenya was able to perform well today. She's been through a lot since the Olys and I'm glad she's getting back on track.
She also seems happier now.

I don't know, I have a feeling that this time Alina is back and she will win and with a very big score. Anyway, back to Zhenya, hopefully she just will make even more people fall in love with her tango. The rest she can't control.

Alena Leonova said Zhenya deserved a higher score.

Tracy definitely gets :points: for performance.

Also, those knee bends deserve special mention.

Love Misha Ge being all zen.

Misha is the calmest of the three which is funny. But I‘m glad he was there. I guess he won‘t be for the FS since it isn‘t his but I wish he was.. he‘s always such a calm presence. Love Tracy and Brian‘s reactions during her skate.

Great first post. Welcome to Zhenya's fan fest. Post often. :)

No one participating in this competition but Rika and Alina (and Satoko with 146) has scored over 145 in their FS this season. We don't know Zhenya's scoring potential if she skates clean yet, I thought she did in Skate Canada but there was a ! and e on her two 3Lz, and then < on her 3Lo, not to mention Lvl3s on her spins.

Zhenya has as much chance as anyone for bronze, and even silver unless Rika lands her 3As.

I‘m sure Zhenya will fight just like she did today. But the thing is; that judges won‘t overlook anything for her anymore like they did in the past sometimes. So, I‘m pretty certain she‘ll get a ! on her lutz and her combos are new so they aren‘t 100% secure yet. If they call her UR.. well... I just hope she stays clean; especially the 3S-3Lo is worrisome. Of course she has a chance but I wouldn‘t say it‘s particularly great. Not many skaters may have got a 145+ this season but there‘s also Tursynbaeva who seems to get a lot higher PCS all of a sudden and who potentially lands a quad. I think these three are the most realistic to podium. I just hope Zhenya skates her best. The rest is out of her control. I, personally, will keep my expectations low and try to stick to what I originally hoped for: top 6. Everything above that and I‘ll be beyond happy.

Funny thing: TAT today was..I don't know, somewhat lukewarm on Zhenya. Of course, she didn't say anything bad about her, just was far, far from her usual self when commentating Zhenya's skating. But guys ftom another channel, (one in particular, who was rather harsh before during GP, and not only about skating, also about her decision, her new programmes etc.), they were rooting for her so much.

Was she like that towards everyone?
