Evgenia Medvedeva: The main goal of the season — to be selected in the Grand Prix final
The world junior champion Evgenia Medvedeva who won the senior event of the Grand Prix - Skate America noted that the fall didn't unsettle her
— I went towards this aim — told Medvedeva. — It is pleasant that I took such a high place. And, despite the mistakes I made in the free skating, I'm quite happy with the result. The first half of the program I skated well, rather easily. There were some blots — I was stumbling on the path of steps. At the end of the program I have coped with the jumping elements, but only the double axel brought me. This double axel is not my jump.
— What did you think after the fall on that jump about?
— Only about the jumping combos. I needed to add a jump, and I thought how it would be better to make it.
— Does it mean that the fall didn't unsettle you?
— Falls happen at all athletes, and it is necessary to be able to cope with it. It is necessary to learn to rise [after a fall], go further, to continue with full power. Nobody can skate faultlessly always. All athletes want to reach a certain height [in a discipline]. But this ascension doesn't happen without falling.
— The leadership after the short program at this event added confidence to you?
— Of course. I had a distance from Gracie Gold in five points, and I came to the free skating more quietly.
— What spirit with?
— With a fighting spirit! It is necessary to come to ice only with a fighting spirit always.
— The Canadian figure skater on this tournament jumped a triple axel [with a fall]. What do you think about technical complication of the program?
— Perfection doesn't have a limit. But as I didn't try to come on a triple axel yet, and I won't begin to designate any concrete dates. I thought of this jump. But an axel is not mine. And if to complicate the jumping component - it can be at the expense of a quadruple Salchow. In the future I plan to master it. But I don't like to speak simply [to stir]. It is necessary not to speak, but to make it and work on itself.
— Your following event of the Grand Prix will be in Moscow. In the case of successful performance at the homeland there will be a chance to be selected in the final. Do you set such a task for yourself?
— Of course, I have such a purpose. Also it is one of main goals of the season.
— Did you set such a purpose from the beginning of the season? But you are only a debutant at the senior level!
— And what? The Grand Prix events are just thought up to athletes be selected in the final.
