Evgenia Medvedeva

I wonder if Evgenia will attempt to change her layout in the FS to be more competitive against Alina? She would definitely be able to!
I dont think it's a good idea. She is still recovering from her injury. It's better to improve her jumps and gain more confidence.

BTW I loved her new dress! Very beautiful!

I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so. Unfortunately the RusFed made their choice, and it is what it is. That 75 will be 77 come Olympics and what can you do.

I wish Zhenya two clean skates at PC so that she can be proud of her own skating and happy with it, and the rest is not on her. She showed immense mental fortitude today, I know I would not have been able to skate that way after it was clear it was game over, but she somehow did it. I have such crazy respect for her.

That her PCS is less than 2 points higher than Zagitova is a proper farce but...

Anyway, I leave you with Zhenya and TAT. It's lovely and well, kind of clear what TAT thinks of this.

I googled her just now and saw this shirt on Amazon. I thought it was funny and wanted to share it here to lighten the mood. They had a few others with her name like "Team Evgenia" but I thought this one was funniest for when you are around non-figure skater fan friends. :)

EDIT: NOT a commercial. Don't rush out and buy it. I don't know if the seller is legit or not, again, just thought it was a funny pause to our conversation on her performance today. :)

This is it.

I used to say that Zhenya is not our only prodigy, that her rival is on the way. But even I didn't see her coming so soon.

I'm a little sad for Zhenya's defeat, but I'm glad that she was beaten by her own student. Zhenya was always helping Alina on practices, even though she knew she is raising her rival, but this fact never made her change her attitude to her teammate. Neither even her defeat did. I'm so proud for her and I'm so glad that she is the leader of Eteri's team.

I watched it. You don't have to be so rude. It really sounded to me much quieter than usual and I thought I heard whistling :ohwell:

Sorry for that.

But a crowd doesn't usually cheer too much for the 2nd place, unless it's a relatively weak athlete.

I may not be the greatest fan of her skating, but big kudos and respect to Zhenya for brilliant comeback after 3 months without competing!
Congrats to the silver medalist, bravo!:clapper:

She already did though. This first flip instead of 3f+3t wasn't error but was deliberate. Proof:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hePsgYss4RU&feature=youtu.be&t=359
Eteri asked Zhenia (most likely why she couldn't make first combination), Zhenia said something, Eteri didn't hear and asked again, Daniil said that "she wanted more points in second half". I am sure that was last minute Medvedeva's change after she heared Alina's score - to transfer that +3t to later jump making it combination. Nevertheless she miscalculated it in the end considering that she didn't receive +goe for that flip (most likely judges thought it was unlucky jump) and began to miss musical cues for some time after that which in turn could affected her pcs somewhat.

She lost weight, yeah. Too much pressure on her and too many things happened in this season not in her favor. :(

For someone who lost so suddenly after dominating for two years, she couldn’t have reacted better.
Today didn’t only show how great she is as a competitor and a fighter, but how good she is as a person. She handled herself with so much grace and dignity, I was almost stunned.
Keep moving forward Zhenya, we are with you!!

no. Flip was not the best to make a combo. But she could make a combo with lz. But decided to move -3t forward to another flip. I geas it's why her lz was not good eather. She was doubted herself where to move combo.

Evgenia was warming up with her ears closed (as she usually does), TAT mentioned this. After that, Zhenya approached Eteri for her last instructions, while Daniil and Sergei were sitting in K&C with Alina. After her program, Zhenya hugged Daniil without saying anything, when Daniil said Eteri that Zhenya deliberately reordered her jumps. So I think Daniil just joked.

You were right, yeah. Gosh I wish you weren't. It looks like it's been predecided somewhere else, and not the ice. I'm not saying Zhenya deserved to win with 3 shaky landings and an unclear Lutz against a technically flawless highest base value program we can see without a quad, but the PCS Alina got...

Zhenya might as well go for the 4S if the rumors she's been practicing it with a harness are true. If she falls she'll still be second at the Olympics, and if she lands it she would win

And TAT - well, she knows what's up. She understands those numbers perfectly, she knows Zhenya can't beat a 75 PCS Alina unless Alina falls. As Zhenya's scores were announced she (TAT) was silent and if I'm not wrong she said she wanted to cry (please someone who speaks fluid Russian confirm this, I only know bits and pieces).

Totaly agree with you, also was noticing it! It kinda gave me Yuna vibe from Sochi :)

And of course I am very proud of our Tsarina!
It was a real Karenina today as it was such a dramatic skate, I was crying...I really don't know how she was able to pull it clean after injury, skating last under all pressure and knowing Alina's score.....indeed she has a GREAT CHARACTER!!!

Go Go Tsarina!:points:

P.S. Dress is one love!

Eteri won't allow either of them to risk missing the top 2.

Right after Alina's scores, TAT said: "Zhenya, dear. Zhenya, don't listen, that's right, close your ears, don't listen. Medvedeva still have had a little higher scores. When she got the world record, she had a little more."

Few weeks after removing the cast Zhenya won silver which I find amazing. I didn't expect her to win TBH and I was afraid Caro would beat her as well but here we are. Also she managed to save that flip and still look awesome after landing

However I'm worried by 2 things: she looks skinnier and flutz is still a flutz

I was joking with that first one. ;)

Thanks for the translation. Those words sound so heavy omg. TAT knew Zhenya can't match those scores. :sad21:
Oh and I was actually wondering about what she said AFTER they heard Evgenia's scores.

Well said. In that moment of waiting when she had her hands together and eyes closed and then her score was revealed, that moment was so sad. You wanted to immediately tell her, "Don't worry about it! It's okay!" but you didn't have to, because she took a few deep breaths, applauded a little, and smiled. She smiled and nodded. You knew what she was feeling deep down, but she handled herself with dignity and maturity. She handled herself like a champion. She celebrated her teammate's victory at the ceremony with a big hug to Alina. It's a disappointment (but honestly it could have been a lot worse coming off an injury and hiatus). She will take from this event what she can though. She successfully came back from an injury with no major mishaps in this event and she had second with a pretty good score when compared with the rest of the field. She passed the real test of getting through this event, recovering from her injury, and is ready for the Olympic Games. Guys, it's only a few weeks away!

Her lutz was of better edge in practice but competition pressure ate her a bit. Her jumps are shakier and the 2As were not well either, she just isn't ready yet, she still has time to get back to her top form. She has better spins and flow and I'm happy enough.

Happy to have this thread full of people that see in her what I do. Thank you all! And of course thank you, Tsaritsa Zhenechka for giving us countless reasons to be proud and two beutiful comeback programs to enjoy :thank:

One thing that I didn't see anybody mention - I loved her spiral today! It's the best I've ever seen her do it, with the most speed AND flow (I've always liked it as it's a special thing she does, but it used to have more of a pronounced "stop" when changing the direction from forward to backward). Happy that she improved things like that - the new spin position as well

I believe in her and can see her developing over the next years into an even more beautiful artist, similarly to Caro till the end of her career

Omg I noticed the spiral too. By far her best  And the judges were really fast with those +3 GOE's on that one hehe

And yeah, I really hope Evgenia sticks around as long as Caro. Her musicality and skills aren't going anywhere, so I can't wait to see more and am looking forward to her two new performances at the Olympics :hap85:
