Evgenia Medvedeva

Ok, I don't really getting emotional after skates, but seeing her barely holding on to her tears at the end killed me :(

And just to be on the positive side today, maybe not winning gold at these Olympics means we'll still get to enjoy at least 4 more years of her skating.

If by any chance you're reading this, good luck Zhenia, whatever you choose to do next, and thanks for making me watch every major skating competition in the last year!

So proud of Zhenya! I don’t know how is she managed to pull out such a performance under pressure once again. She showed true sportsmanship after realizing it was silver!

I am devastated and happy at same time for her...
Please stay healthy and show us many more beautiful performances in future!
Always Tsarina

Finally I have seen both Zhenya's and Zagi's programs. Congrats to Alina, but HUGE respect to Zhenya. She is true LADY OF THE ICE. She handled emotions with such a grace. As I have said earlier, why both can't have gold.

I’m so proud of her. What a champion!
I’m glad she’s deciding to continue skating and she’s not giving up. Evgenia Medvedeva simply does not give up.

Yulia Lipnitskaya posted a story on her IG with encouragement to Zhenya, captioning it "hold on" (as in 'be strong'). Considering those two didn't use to have the best of relationships, I think it's a huge compliment to Evgenia!

Sometimes we, generally as people, tend to fix ourselves on one particular goal and think that anything less than this goal won't be worth it but fate has its own way of how things will come out. This was a fight not against Alina or other contenders but against her own self. She overcame those voices of doubt in her head, which haunted her since the injury happened, and despite the fear of failing she gave her heart on the ice. She stood this whole time so strong, changing programmes, getting through injury, losing her Europeans title. We finally saw her raw and hurting soul, it brought me to tears as well. This really was her best performance this season and I am happy that it was on the Olympic ice, closing the whole figure skating event. For me, it was remarkable enough. I am very proud of her, hopefully she can forgive herself because this achievement (with her other previous achievements) is worth praising and being proud of. I hope that after this darkness and sadness we will see some light in the future.

I guess she will compete at worlds, but afterwards I wish that she takes some good care of her health. I'm still not sure if this leg is fully recovered. And only when she's healthy she should go on, upgrading tech or attending ice shows, whatever her heart desires. :console::ghug::thank:

I'm glad she's happy with her performance. That's all I could say. I have no energy left to say anything else. Hope the future would be brighter for her.

Dang, what a mess I am

Seeing Zhenya crying after scores, it killed me. Poor girl is so strong, to cry in the KnC means she was so despairingly sad/overwhelmed/whatever. I think she should have gotten the gold. Alina had positive GOE on her first lutz and PCS scores higher than Miyahara! But Zhenya is a true champion: smiling during the plushie ceremony even though she must have been heartbroken, and cheering for Alina. I noticed Alina cheering and jumping up and down for her too. Their relationship is great but Zagitova has a better chance of being able to continue. After all these years of her dominance, all she needed was an OGM. And dshe didn't get it by 1.5pts. But she'll always be a champion in my heart.

Would be graceful if anyone can share a link of her fs, prefer non commentary if possible, thanks !
Can't share my friend where I watch because it's geoblocked bc he's out of my country.

Yulia probably knows how it feels ❤

Maybe with the old 6 point system it was possible. I too wonder the same thing both deserve gold in reality. They are different and both great. They faced unreal pressure of no golds for Russia and a sports program ruined by doping and Zhenya and Alina come out and perform so great in team and then individual. It was truly amazing.

I know Russia has many talented junior girls but I am not sure Zhenya will just go away. I hope she can stay healthy unlike Yulia and Adelina after Sochi and pace herself the next couple of year then at 20 or 21 decide if she wants to fight for the 2022 games. Who know how much better Zhenya could have been these games if not for the injury a few months ago. We will never know. Russia should be so proud of her. So many of her compatriots wanted her to win. She got the silver but deserved gold too. It's also good to know she and Alina are real friends. Nice to see, Very rare too for such great athletes. Plushenko and Yagudin were not friends like these two. ;)

They figure skating world needs a new system because when one country has many more good performers than others they should not be limited to 3 slots at maximum. In this case the Russians deserve more. Maybe they can switch to a ranking system or something like in tennis. If it doesn't change some Russian girls may look for dual citizenship just to make an olympic team.

"These are tears of a splash of emotion. Probably, I kept a lot of things in myself and I can not exactly determine what kind of emotions. Just the cup overflowed. Do you remember my performance of a lifetime? This is the most important award for me. I hope most people think the same way.

I always sensibly assess the situation. I will not retell our dialogue with Alina, this is too intimate a conversation. Alina worked as many, many, many people to achieve this medal. I saw it day in and day out.

I have plans for the next Olympics, of course. I love this sport, I'm not going to leave it. I will try to enjoy such moments and invest the whole soul, "- said Medvedeva on the air of the TV channel" Match TV ".
