Evgenia Medvedeva

Modest? No.... it's more contemporary approach-modern- turbulent and dark.
Evgenia's sp is really good, it's an unitary piece (except of whatever she's doing in the very end) Is it done by Daniil or Averbukh?.
i was going to write "modern"... :palmf::laugh2: i have no idea how it became "modest"...
Evgenia's sp done by Averbukh

better? regular basis? :scratch2: not sure about it....

It's simply how it is; top choreographers are easy to identify. All of those produce better programs, that are highly appreciated on a broad spectrum, way beyond what either Daniil or Averbukh do. Daniil certainly has the potential to one day be one of the better choreographers; that he managed to fit something for Tarakanova alone without boxing her in says a lot but he's not there yet and Zhenya should get top billed choreos now. The one person Zhenya should avoid is Lori and not because of the huge prices but because she's past her prime.

But as one of the top skaters in the world, she should get top programs.

Regarding her program: today, she was the real anna karenina. I am so proud of her. So much pressure but nevertheless she showed us so many emotions in her skating. it has really moved me and many people around the world. Thank you Zhenya:thank:

Why all this choreography talk? Is there something wrong with Evgenia's choreo? :scratch2: She's practically dancing, for Christ's sake - it's brilliant

Does anyone have video links of the press conferences/interviews/whatever Zhenya gave after the LP? I see people quoting things she's said, but I haven't been able to find any of the videos. :(

I am upset. When the first two OGM went to my favorites (pairs and men), I began to feel a little disheartened about the next two's chances. And lo and behold, they didn't get the gold. But they still won silver, at their first Olympics, and with beautiful performances at that. And I think this is not a bad outcome, as I strongly believe in their future. There are younger girls coming with strong technique and I like them too but you never know what will happen, that's the nature of this sport and life in general. I think it's good that Zhenya has such respect for Caro, as I can see her going into her footsteps, fighting and improving in her own way. And that's a very beautiful prospect.

For now tho, I have only watched Zhenya's skate and I think it will take me a while to get myself to watch other skaters' from tonight, even the ones I like.

This corresponds so much to how I felt that I just had to de-lurk (been snooping around this forum like a shadow for about a year now). The first two results really made my heart soar, but after Hanyu's gold I felt a twinge of anxiety; how probable is it that the four you're rooting for all make it? It was a harsh return to reality after that.

Reflecting on this though, the contrast between the P/C and Med situation allowed me to realise that while one might feel really aggrieved by the ice dance results (at least I have to say I find them incomprehensible, but this is not the place to be discussing them), this was more...palatable. I adore Zhenya, but there are flaws in there, and while Zag is certainly inferior artistically, she really jumps beautifully and brought as much elegance and grace to her performance as she could, so kudos to her. Rather devastated for Med, though obviously in absolute terms silver is great, and really wondering what the future holds for her.

I feel as you say, that the main area for improvement is skating skills, posture, body movement and upper body carriage. I'm really not satisfied with her arms, which can be quite distracting even when she's not jumping. I feel her skating could also be purer. Surely this can be improved upon by her choreographers and dance coaches? Carolina is obviously a great role model for her to have, at any rate. I hope she gives her tips! Artistically I could see her maturing to different kinds of works; even though the film soundtracks of the past few years have been great I feel she's ready for more demanding music (maybe like the Nepela FS from earlier this season or, even better, the Euros EX?). Also have to think about evolving performance- and acting-wise. Working on 4S would be great, though it does seem rather ambitious at her age. How many eighteen-yo skaters have successfully learnt quads? Then they're's the 3Lz, which really needs to be amended (how difficult this is, I'm not sure).
In short, so many things to work on! Should be an exciting next few months! I already can't wait to see her next program!!

Another question: is 3 the absolute ceiling for the number of participants from one country in GP tour and Worlds? Or can this be modulated/re-negotiated as a function of how the country's performers do in comps? Because it does seem that with Kostornaia, Trusova, etc. set to burst onto the stage, things could get a little crowded...

Lastly: thanks to all of you on this forum! When I discovered figure skating some time ago, it really came out of nowhere (I've lived in countries where it has absolutely no footprint, so much so I didn't know of its existence) - actually I think I just clicked a random link on YT and it was Medvedeva and she introduced me to this sport which I soon grew to love - and this forum was a wonderful place to be introduced to the complexities of it and learn to enjoy it even better.

I will add my 5 cents on topic of 'coach change'.

That's funny cuz I also was thinking it could be good for her future development to change the coach, the issue here is that there is no one better than Eteri right now in Russia :cool14: Some might say Mishin as he is the best technical coach but than she must work with world-class choreographers....

Think there are some obvious arguments why she should stay with Eteri, however, I think there are some concerns as well.

Apart from that, she deserves to at least try out different choreographers (DEAR FS GODS, PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN ). She simply might need more individual approach since now on, rather than group one. There are too many girls right now at Eteri's group therefore from now I am not sure how much individual time Zhenya will have...

Another point which worries me the most is that Eteri's approach to training is extremely hard training with tons of repetitions...That definitely worked on kids and juniors, however since Zhenya is 18 and I am not sure she physically can do so many repetitions and stay healthy at the same time! Nighter she needs that many, it might not give wished result instead could cause more injuries IMHO. Also in the last Japanese documentary, Eteri herself told that the cast (which Zhenya were wearing on her foot) was ready BEFORE NHK Trophy!!!
But obviously Zhenya told she won't wear it and guess what, Eteri didn't stop her from competing and even allowed her to jump on EX...One could argue that it was up to Zhenya, however, I doubt that she wouldn't listen to her team if they were strict and provide valid reasons not to...She was listening to them when they decide to change the Aver FS after all...

I am no coach obviously but I remember that Brian were talking that he actually stopes his skaters from jumping if they are having a 'bad day' and starting to work on other areas of skating such as SS, spins and so on...As far as I see, Eteri's approach is work work and work and repeat, repeat, repeat. Which is great but would it work on older skaters as Zhenya....honestly I doubt and that's my main concern here if she stays.....however she most likely will.

Why all this choreography talk? Is there something wrong with Evgenia's choreo? :scratch2: She's practically dancing, for Christ's sake - it's brilliant

Personally I do not have many issues with choreo itself, however sometimes you can see that they are many repetitions of the same movements/steps for many girls, simply because they are out of new ideas I think, Daniil makes so so so many programs at same time...Also sometimes they 'cut' music strangely if my words make sense. Like the choice of music and how they put it together is no good sometime... That's the issue with all Russians programs imho.

They're not good (they're not horrible either) programs, Evgenia just skates them well tbh (That's her magic). None of their programs have the wow factor for me. Have you guys noticed all the Russian skaters had bleak programs? I think the only won who had good programs was Aliev. I mean I know the Fed has a lot of say in their programs and it's like, this is what you all chose? Idk that's just my opinion. I don't know what will happen, I just hope she enjoys her life.

I think Evgenia’s first senior free program is really special. And she has improved since then, just imagine if she does it now.

There is no reason to speculate what should have been done, also there is no reason for blaming anyone from the team. There are some things that cannot be chaged, like, both Zhenya and Zagi aren't the same so programs also have to be different to fit them, their strength, skating style, stamina. Second, therefore programs can't be composed to be completely equal in BV or in anything else (and even less in PCS as that is always unpredictable). Third, someone has to be higher than the other finally. The thing that team arranged and both ladies delivered four programs which brought Zhenya and Zagi to gold and silver against the rest of the FS world I consider marvellous. I somehow cannot see the problem in it :)

Just dropping by to say how sorry I am. Zhenya has been my favorite female skater since Kim Yuna, and she is truly (imo) the whole package and it's such a shame that the competition was basically Sochi all over again. :( For me, it was a hard pill to swallow, when she cried I cried with her :sad21:, it all seems so unfair.

I just hope that she won't be too hard on herself (this wasn't her fault) and that she will continue on and show them all that she IS the best OGM or not!

I think she skated the best FS today. What artistry! And the quality of her jumps! They were way high in the air! She was better than Alina, who did not even skate clean - she missed the second jump in her first combination and later on she had to add the jump somewhere else.
The judges made a mistake.

Awww just seen medal ceremony now and it made me sad again! You can see that she forced smile and couldn't be completely happy, hope this silver makes her only stronger, keep fight Zhenya!

If she wants to up her technical content, it's going to take a 3Lo-3Lo in the SP and a -3Lo combination in the LP. There's really no way to do two 3F and two 3Lo without there being a -3Lo combination unless you do a sequence which kind of defeats the purpose.

They could add a little BV(and I think they should have done this) by going with either a 2-5 or 3-4 layouts with it being fronted by a 3Lz and 2As and all the combinations in the bonus. The 2-5 layout would add .6 in BV and the 3-4 layout would add .3 in BV. There really is not much reason for Medvedeva to not do her combinations in the bonus. The last and a bit riskier jump layout I'd consider is a 2-5 with the 3Lz and 3S done at the beginning. I don't like the way Medvedeva approaches her 3S and I think it would be easy to kind of mask that if done right at the beginning.

The LP layout in general is stale. I'm not sure if it would be a good fit, but the Canadian trend of doing the step sequence after all the jumps is worth considering. A choreographic sequence towards the beginning would be interesting. Something kind of like her The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and Melodies of the White Night SPs. I feel like they don't pay as much attention to having interesting entries and exits for the jumps in the LP in comparison to the SP. And it's important for the LP to have some spontaneity.

guys, my eyes are made a mess. I cried all day. Seeing Evgenia crying for the first time left my heart broken. I'm too emotional, I cried with Mao in Vancouver and Sochi, and now this. God.
My poor baby bear. She is so correct, smiles at the press, doesn't speak ill of anyone, has no complaints, is a great person, with a great sports ethic. It makes me sad that she has to deal with the media and so many people when her heart is broken.Maybe she just wants to be alone at this moment, in the documentary she says that she is really annoyed by places with a lot of people and noise, and that she prefers to be in her room covered by her blankets:sad21:. I just hope she enjoy. She will meet her favorite band, at least she will be able to fulfill one of her dreams. I hope her friends Misha and Hanyu make her smile.

Eteri raised Zhenya since she was 6 years old. Zhenya will never abandon her. About choreographers, yes, I think it's a good idea, what happened to that program supposedly choreographed by Lambiel? Misha could choreograph her EXs, it would be fun.
She is a multicultural girl, she speaks English, she is sociable, she can ask for collaborations with other choreographers. Although I think the main thing is to make a good layout (Layout 2/5 (without combination in first, all combo in second half) or 0/7 ). She can try other spins combinations and Chstsq to improve aesthetics and generate a visual impact to the casual public. she can try other combo in her jumps, that cascade 2 + 2 + 2 is outdated, I don't understand why she doesn't do 2 + 3 + 2 there. She need to get hold of that 3Lo to put it in the combinations, and at the same time work to fix her lutz progressively (it looks better already) so she can add at least one lutz combination when it improves.

Zhenya will continue, this girl always surprises me, and I know she can if she works.
I will always support you, Zhenya :cheer:

It gives me too much anger that the typical haters have taken advantage of the situation to talk stupid things, even invent things about her saying that absolutely all her jumps are bad and with ur, please, how many lies and exaggerations will they say?

Haters, ignore them, they're everywhere and they have no real impact so don't worry.
I'm devastated for Zhenya today too, not even have a slightest energy to do anything.

Since everyone is down from last night, just want to remind you of two things to brighten your mood and start looking forward instead of behind: Evgenia will be performing at the Gala tomorrow night/Sunday morning (depending where you live)!!! And, remember Worlds next month? Tsarina is going to come back all the stronger. :)
