Evgenia Medvedeva

I love Pan's Labyrinth OST! I imagined Zhenya interpreting this melody, and my god, it is perfect, emotional, magical.

I think Lambiel is a realistic possibility. Daniil choreographed winning programs (Black Swan, Anna Karenina) so maybe they give this pass to him over Ilia. Kukushka was an experiment between Eteri and Zhenya, according to an interview with Daniil, so something good could come out of there. Eteri has a degree in Choreography as well.

I would like to see Zhenya skating a melody like the one mentioned by LittleLary + an FS with Pretty when You Cry by Lana Del Rey or some Björk song, now that voices are allowed. I think songs with female Indie voices look great on Zhenya.

I can't wait for the documentary !!:yahoo:

My baby!!!:sad21: I don't understand how anyone could say that Zhenya has had everything easy. She has had to endure immense pressure these three years, she was injured just before the Olympics, her country was sanctioned, she has literally a lot of hard competition on her own icerink, and she had to keep a cold head, keeping her emotions locked all these 3 years! We all know that, and we love and admire her for her fierceness and hard work. She is even admired by Alina, Trusova, Anna and practically all her companions, because apart from being a sporting reference, she is also a warm human being, sisterly and reliable.

Pan's Labyrinth sounds like perfect choice. I loved her 2016/17 FS despite horrendous voiceovers and I think the other soundtrack I'd love to see her skate to is The Imitation Game. Every time I hear it I cry for all good reasons.

From more classical pieces Kreutzer is in my TOP10 and I believe that with good choreographer it can be extremely "skatingable" music.

I'll never understand how people can say that Zhenya had it easy. She wasn't a natural talent, in her novice and early junior days there was no indication that one day she would be two times World Champion. As child she wasn't a great spinner, her jumps are still mediocre but she was stubborn and hard working. When she finally started having successes internationally in juniors many were saying that she will be eaten alive in her domestic field after moving to seniors. When she was crowned as World Champion in Boston many claimed it was her last golden medal as "one-season-Russian-wonder". Some Julia's pseudofans were blaming her for their favourite skater retirement not to mention standard accusation of being overscored and destroying sport. Still she was standing proud breaking her own records and winning medal after the medal. Many young skaters in Russia admire her, she is inspiration for her friends from Sambo and for many still unknown girls who we will see in next 8-10 years who picked up figure skating after watching her. No wonder so many documents are dedicated to her as her life story can really be made into some sort of movie. And she has great personality. She is bubbly, funny and sometimes awkward like standard 17 year old girl but at the same time she has extremely mature mindset of athlete. She always looks for improvement and she never blames anyone for her mistakes or says that something should be given to her. Many older and more experienced skaters can learn from her

Also what's important - she still is unbeatable "internationally" as no skater from outside Russia managed to beat her so far. The only danger can come from her own domestic field.

EDIT: And lets face the truth. Every skater crowned as the best had some issues - even Yuna Kim. Her jumping technique was superb when it came to axel and toe pick jumps but her salchow and loop (when she still had it) were average. Also her spins were nothing to talk about for hours. Now when I think about it the similar problems have junior girls in Korea. Mao Asada never fixed her lutz in 100% and till the end she struggled with URs in her 3-2-2 combo. Michelle would have a lot of problems with current judging system - her skating skills, spins and spirals should be under UNESCO protection or something but her triples would be probably called more often than not.

Basically, every skater have their own issues, in some areas! We choose to love the one who captures our attention, our souls, the one who can bring us (the audience) to their performance. And that’s the truth. For me was for years Yuna Kim, and now is Janny!

And many others have their favorites, and every favorite have their own battles to fight, have their own issues and they’re trying to be better, they know better than us what areas they need to work more. After all, nobody is perfect.

I mean, Zhenya's Lutz is problematic and her 2A isn't great, but her Loop and Salchow are beautiful, especially her loop. Her 3-3 are incredibly consistent and done with arm variations, and her spins have improved a lot this season. I would say technically she isn't the best but she is definitely one of the best, especially with her consistency.

Well hello there :)

Yes, I was brought here by the Olympics...don't know a lutz from an axel but this seemed like the place to be for updates. I had to do so much backtracking on YouTube the last couple weeks... xD

Welcome to this thread:). Feel free to ask everything about Zhenya.

Ouch, I am at a loss of words. That video was so hard to watch.

I'm new to this sport but I can already see how pressure gets disproportionately hard for women in the field. I don't think such vulnerable moments for male skaters would even get released. And I don't think male skaters are criticized for every step they take. And of course, being a top skater and competing at that level makes everything even more brutal for Evgenia.

When I first watched Evgenia at Olympics, I was really moved by her interpretation of one of my all-time favorite novels. She just went out there and put out a completely raw and open performance, building it up in a way like she was grieving for everything that Anna Karenina came to lose. This experience of loss then got followed by her losing the gold medal, and she handled that situation as beautifully as she handled her performance. I really respected her so much, and I didn't even know about her injury back then. Finding out about her struggle made me respect her even more. I just hope that she fully recovers and continues to deliver performances like Anna Karenina.

I would love to see a program with the OST of The Shape of Water I think it was just magical https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkd2z_1jFrA
And I would also love for a program like Kushkushka, I hope she can work with Misha or Stephane because I think she is ready for something new.

I would love if she could work with Misha! He understands her so much, and they have this sister/brother bond, he would definitely create something unique for her

That is why I think they could do something special, they have a great relationship and I really like the programs he has done for other skaters... *crossing my fingers*

Darn. Well, it's better to properly rest than risk further injury and surgery. What a trooper, to compete with injury and still perform so beautifully at the Olympicsi

No.... :( I was actually hoping Averbukh was just exaggerating. I didn't want it to be true. Get well soon, Zhenya... *hugs*

Doctors insist on 8 weeks of rest - without any jumps, only glide (? how to say properly? :-)
There was not enough time for recovery before Olympic.
Hope after this period everything will be ok.

from 4 till 8 weeks without jumps. :(

I’m sad that we don’t get to see her, but the relief outweighs the sadness. I don’t want her to compete in pain anymore.
Our girl needs to heal properly, so she could come back stronger than ever the way we know she would.

Im relieved, i was quite convinced she'd go even with some problems. Im glad she thinks of her health now.

Well this is sad news and the season is over for her.

Considering it will be like 7 months (?) until the next important competition, I really think she should actually take a break and let that leg properly heal... not these half-assed surgeries + rush into training again just to be able to compete ASAP.

But meh... what do I know, I'm just a random guy on a forum :ohwell:
