Evgenia Medvedeva

I grew up with black, grey, and even reddish brown squirrels. The grey ones are usually the most friendly and some will even let you feed them. My yard would be filled with almost ten at a time rather frequently. We used to have these squirrel feeders that would spin around while the squirrels would eat corn on the cob that we would attach to it.

Like this :laugh2:

I think Zhenya is fascinated by the black squirrels. I know I am when I saw her first post of them. I live in North America and never saw them before. Are they a distinctly Canadian thing?

I have Russian family and they’re always surprised by our Canadian squirrels when they come to visit. Apperently they have different colours and species of squirrels in russia

Hi I hate to be dumb but when you guys say your favorite program is w/e, which one are you referring to ?! :)

Warning: possibly a long post [emoji5]

I couldn't decide at first and I made a chart of competitions between couples of programs lol.

1. River flows in you
2. Anna Karenina
3. Kukushka

However, since I kept thinking about my favourite performances, I decided to talk about it too, as it also speaks about my Evgenia journey [emoji4]

I had watched fs when I was a kid, it was a tradition with my mom. The women were not interesting to me, but me and my mom loved Pluschenko. Then the national tv stopped the broadcasts at around 2004 (8yrs old) and I only watched a few performances here and there throughout the years.
Fast forward to February 2017, I was bored and I decided to watch a whole competition. Worlds 2017 hadn't happened yet so I started Worlds 2016. I will forever remember the moment in the sp when Evgenia didn't do the first combination, and I was like "come on baby girl you can do it". And she did it. And when I started watching the fs, I was rooting for her to be the youngest to win Worlds since.... I don't remember who right now lol. And she did. And she got me hooked. I couldn't wait for Worlds 2017. And she won again.
In the period after Worlds 2017 and before the start of last season I had rewatched all of her performances a lot of times. I would even start with the first gp of 2015/16 and watch the following competitions until WTT 2017. I was learning about fs and its rules through Evgenia.
So, my most memorable and/or favourite performances are: first senior sp, first senior fp, gpf 2016 ex, worlds 2017 sp, wtt 2017 fp, wtt 2017 ex, Europeans Kukushka and Olympics Anna Karenina.
Last season was the first fs season of my life. So many emotions, so many things happened. I learnt a lot, and I learnt to appreciate other skaters too.

Thank you Evgenia, for making fs a part of my life again. Even if I don't like your programs sometimes (only Nocturne lol) and you don't win, you will always be my favourite.
That said, go get 'em girl!

Great Post! Following Evgenia changed everything for me too. I now watch the juniors and I never did before. And because of her I am on Golden Skate every day.

 So glad you're enjoying your time here on GS!

The best part about watching juniors is that the off season is shorter. :) The first JGP is like next week or the week after!

I wasn't following Zhenya as closely when she was in juniors, but I do remember that she wasn't a standout compared to her peers -- she really has worked hard to improve and get where she is now. Which is why I have confidence that she will continue to grow and improve now.

Black squirrels are apparently a subgroup of gray squirrels.

They are found in Ontario, Northeastern US, and in the UK.

The ones in Toronto are a very large squirrel and are quite startling for those of us from elsewhere.

Here's a feature on them from BlogspotTO..

Where I live in the UK you can find black, grey and red squirrels in Hyde Park if you know where to go though the grey ones are the most common by far as well as being the most tame.

Loved your post ! It was also her that made me love figure skating and discover new skaters so I’m grateful for that.

You mean, Hyde Park, London? :scratch2:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BmBTnZehIy1/?taken-by=jmedvedevaj Zhenya with her rose gold John Wilson blades designed by Misha Ge :)

Those blades are so gorgeous! She also said in the comments that the beads in the boots don't fall off, so I'm hopeful she'll use them for competitions!

If you zoom in and look at the edges, they look a little scratched and scuffed, and the laces on the boots have some spots of darkened wear on them. I think she's been skating in them! :luv17:
