Evgenia Medvedeva

Yeah I'd still eat it

And  Med's face!

But dear me, there's a lot of doom and gloom predicted for Med right now, come one people we gotta be glass half-full people.

I love the Orange Sky SP so much, I'm sure Med can adjust to tango and kick butt with it.

Yeah, c'mon everyone! We're Zhenya's fanfest! We're with her through hell and high water (or pesky journalists and retirement rumours, whichever)!

PCS wasn't the problem today. She lost out on about 4+ points because of the UR & fall. If you account for her getting positive GOE had she landed it, she missed out on 5+ points because of the mistakes on the Loop.

I was worried when this season started, but I'm not now. She didn't have clean skates, so there is a ton of points on the table. She skated beautifully and when she skates clean, she will be magnificent.

It's true that we, of all people, should be more positive. It's good to see how happy she was to compete these two days. Her struggles post Olympics are intense. She had to move across the world and start her life over completely. New home, new language, new culture, new coach, new environment, new diet, new on and off-ice training. Emotional stress of leaving her home, her culture, her old coach on bad terms, and the media storm and heavy criticism that came with all of this. Moving her entire life across the world while being just weeks after she was off ice for 3 months because of an injury. It's only been 4 months since her new beginnings. 3 months since she really got into it. Just 5 months ago she was injured and hadn't jumped in 3 months. It's crazy that she was even able to get all of her jumps back in such a sort amount of time, much less be competition ready. To say this is an understatement but I admire her passion and hardwork so much. I don't know how she dealt with all of this and came back strong but I'm happy she did. Seeing her skate well and skate happily is a gift.

Also, she just got back from Russia, after the test skates. I am sure that trip was emotional. The more I think about it, her skate tonight was amazing.

Good grief, it was hardly a splatfest. For a first outing after all the injuries and changes I'd say it was pretty freaking good. Perfectionism is not healthy or reasonable. This was just a senior B, for god's sake.

Yuzuru hasn't been perfect or won gold at every competition and nobody holds it against him.

I think the program will be really good after it has some more mileage.

May I add that Wilson wasn’t even in Toronto this entire time since coming back from Russia. He has been travelling too and didn’t even get to work on the programs lol.

Just a quick thought that was brought to my attention by someone… is her back pain affecting her 3lo? Brian said she has back pain hence the absence of a layback spin. Loops put the most pressure on hips and back… maybe this is the reason? Because it was arguably her best jump.

Given what Zhenya said in the interview after test skates, I suspect she was working on locking down the choreo they had already done with Tracy and Brian (when he wasn't in Richmond BC).

It's an incredible amount of work already achieved in a very short time...

She looked comfortable with how she did. Let's support her in that.

I am here for my girl zhenya :luv17::luv17: we all know how hard your situation is and how hard you work! you’re doing remarkably:hap10: I will always support you

As a forever Zhenya fan, I'm going to completely believe in her and always support her! I think we all should!

Although, I can't help but feeling sad... it's been a long time since we've seen scores this low. I guess we're just not used to it yet but I'm glad we get to witness improvement over the season. Her first season with TCC reminds me a lot of Yuzu's.. maybe it's an indicator for something great :cool14:

I feel so heartbroken for her, not because of today, but because she has to overcome so much and people are so unkind. I am here for her, believe in her and will always pray for her success.

She is incredibly strong, with plenty of people who support her near and far, and I know she will persevere no matter what. But I'm sure it's hard to escape all the chatter from the media and the peanut gallery on social media. I hope she can just focus on training and shut out all that noise. I really don't understand why everything she does is judged 10x more harshly than if it were any other skater. It's so weird to me. You know, she's not perfect, and neither is anyone else. But so what?

It seems to me that Zhenya has a flat edge in 3Lz in FP, and even an almost external one.

Her 3lz was called with a ! which means her takeoff edge was unclear/flat. I think it was flat or slightly inside, which is good, but the leap from here to proper outside edge is a difficult one that many skaters who flutz never make.

The edge seems to me to be improving. Also note that many skaters who have outside edge on lutz skate on a deep outside edge and shift towards inside as they take off, getting off the ice just before the edge shifts to inside. It's very hard to have the ideal technique as I understand, because it's partly just the way your body is that makes flip or lutz harder for you. And remember that Zhenya's lutz edge is probably going to be a work in progress for years to come.

She's so little next to the girls omg!! That was so cute and look at her making people there laugh, what a charmer.

I'm so happy she brought back her combat hair lol I absolutely love the bangs but this is a Evgenia classic. I think some people are over reacting, I got a great vibe from her today attitude wise and ALL things considered, this was a good season opener imo. I completely disagree with people saying the tango doesn't suit her or that she can't pull it off, her stance and face when she ends the FP, whew!! We're in a for a wild ride this season and I'm thrilled.
