Evgenia Medvedeva

I actually wish she had a program like the exhibition program she did to Windmills of Your Mind. Aside from the fact that that is one of my favorite songs of all time, I feel like a more lyrical style in general works more for Zhenya than one that demands for very rhythmic skating (a la tango) and I thought even in the ex, she looks more connected to the song than she was at for example, the FS during ACI. Of course, we'll see constant improvements throughout the whole season but personally the lyrical skating was an aspect of Zhenya that I wish could've been kept.

I love that exhibition too, and I think she will do a lyrical program again. Her team is trying out different programs. I love her experience exhibition and thought that would make a good sp.

Re: the Free

If us on Golden Skate are noticing these things about her program and what needs to be changed, I am sure (and hope) Brian, Tracy and David are thinking the same things! Hopefully decisions are happening over dinner in the room where it happens!

It’s a cheesy song but I loved Pchan’s exhibition to Don’t Worry, Be Happy and while it might be too on the nose for her I would love to see something with that kind of happy pop feeling

I accidently deleted my post while editing the post.
The costume designer for Yuzuru's costume should be Satomi Ito. Her design style can be recognized.
Yuzuru's costume this season has similarities with Shoma Uno's Turandot. Same designer : https://www.google.com/amp/shoma-un...king-of-shomas-turandot-costume-by-satomi/amp
https://www.google.com/search?q=sho...=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#imgrc=h7Bcut8o8gT3JM:

She also designed Yuzuru's Seimei costume, ie his LP in 2015 and 2017/2018

Since a forumer noticed that Satomi Ito has designed for Evgenia before, perhaps this time around Evgenia didnt have time to go back & forth Japan to get it done. Understandable, with her moving and all.

Late to the party, but I think Yatagarasu's points are very valid. That's a lot of room for improvement in that programme.

Which is no bad thing because it means Zhenya can grow a lot and it will be a great experience for her. I do believe we will not see the tango's "final version" until much later in the season, though.

I listened to TSL’s latest video. They seem to think that Zhenya has grown taller taller over the last few years & that her jumps were affected. Also, that’s she’s grown more “womanly” since the Olympics and this was affecting her as well. I took this to mean an increase in Zhenya’s chest and maybe curvier?. Zhenya said that she gained wait and I think she looks healthier & more muscular.

What do you guys think?

Yes, Evgenia is trying to gain weight to become stronger and lessen the risk of injuries especially when she tries to experiment with new jumps.

She does look a little taller but that started a year or so ago, before Olympics. I am not sure if she is taller between Olympics and today. I think the costumes she wore at Autumn classic also made her look curvier, especially the short program dress, whereas the costumes she wore in the Olympics hid it more. Her goal is to gain a little weight and more muscle.

Med's jumps were probably affected by her growth and also by her injury, as were her skating skills. It's visible between the later part of the 16-17 season, up to Pyeongchang.

Right now, maybe, maybe not. I'd assume it's more because they're trying to change her technique and also giving her a better base in skating skills. It's certainly true she can't really keep on muscling her jumps and spinning off the ice anymore, even from from her few showings last season.

I don't think it's about growing, she's well past puberty. It's about strengthening the body, she has already spoke about this several times. She needs to heal and then get more strength in order to achieve her goals and being able to upgrade her tech. This is normal.

I think you need to read my post more carefully.

I apologise to you if my reply appeared over the top or a rant. I was watching Federer at the Laver Cup last night and it was an incredibly nail biting stressful match. I skim read through your post at the time and read into something that wasn't really there. You wrote good analysis of her skating and although their was a fair amount of criticism there, what you said wasn't horrible it was just honest. So again I hope there's no hard feelings and let's continue to be optimistic about Zhenya's season. [emoji106]

A woman's body is always changing even if it is not puberty, right? :palmf:

I thought of Zhenya when I read this article sometime ago and given that you're talking about this now, good time to share.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/15/...-crazy-expectations-they-can-be-overcome.html

Dr. Stacy Sims, fellow at the University of Waikato in New Zealand and author of “Roar,” said that understanding a female athlete’s hormone cycles and tailoring training accordingly can actually make training more effective. “We need to look at women and girls as women and girls, working with their unique physiological changes to harness the performance potential,” Dr. Sims said. “How awesome would it be if every coach and every support person could talk to a girl about having a period without causing red flags?”

In spite of some correlation between puberty and performance plateaus, Dr. Sims said that adolescents can gain fitness with specific nutrition and training interventions. What’s more, holistic coaching and parenting models can combat physical and mental burnout. Tools like the FitrWoman app (“Track your period and train smarter”) can help athletes optimize performance, reduce injury and increase recovery.

Despite the persistence of an archaic paradigm, a new narrative is brewing. It says puberty is no cruel twist.

I really don't know about taller. She's still tiny. She has more curves now, though, that's for sure. Probably the result of being off a super strict pre-Olympic diet. And that's certainly a factor with the jumps, but just looking at how she jumped in practice, her mistakes in the program should be attributed more to nerves and lacking stamina. She's relearning some of her jumps and it's like she said herself, when you're nervous your weak spots is where the mistakes creep in first. When it comes to stamina, I don't doubt for a second it's going to improve, because that's something her coaching team can plan for and knows how to approach. It's absolutely normal that she's not there yet, considering her shortened training period.

The nerves, though... with all the pressure that's been put on her because of her coaching change, that's what I'm really worried about. She can withstand a lot and I will never stop admiring the sheer willpower of this young person, but at this point I hope she cuts herself off of social media for a loooong while, the way she did in preparation for the Olympics. I'd be sad not to see any updates on her life in Toronto, but people are jerks and this is why we can't have nice things. Reading hate mail is just a waste of energy.

I really agree with this!

The things that are a fact: she is strengthening her muscles, her diet is changing. She has said that she looks for a balance, she will not be transformed into a musclehead or something.
The point is that the muscle weighs much more than fat, so she has to get used to her new center of gravity. Their limbs are naturally thin, so there will be no more volume increase than this, which to me seems balanced and healthy.
Everything else is a visual game with the costume (form, volume of the skirt, etc).

she is still a thin and small girl, what we see in the ice is "enlarged" by a chamber effect, like when we believe that Kostornaya has long legs, but in reality she is tiny. In pics with fans you can see that Zhenya has not grown much, and that her body has not changed so drastically.
Really if there has been a major change in her body or "growth" is not precisely the height or weight, but another much more important than, with the change of diet it is logical to assume.
Fortunately she has a team of specialists and her mother supporting and advising her, the girl also has a very focused head, so I can only trust that everything will progress to her benefit:agree:

well, her hips are now wider than her knees... WHICH IS A GOOD THING! It's supposed to be that way. You need muscles to jump. Sure, as a child, you are just spidery and are arms and legs... but then it starts to change.

She moved from Eteri "Julia is so great, she eats just protein shakes" and "close your mouth and not eat" (which Alina parroted before her big flop on worlds) and not eating after 6 PM while maniacally training to... eating sufficient diet for hard core training.

She probably changed her diet to prevent more stress fractures too.

she looked scary thin at Olympics, tbh.
