Evgenia Medvedeva

Don't the top 3 seniors ladies go to worlds? That's the info I got from the other thread I was reading.
Yes that's true. So like, even if the whole podium is only of juniors, the top 3 seniors get the spots, even if they placed 4th, 6th and 7th for example.

Next year is really the more challenging year in terms of competition because the Eteri juniors will move up to seniors. But by then, Evgenia would have been training with the Orser team for a year and a half, which is the period that Orser noted to be necessary for changes to come to fruition. So presumably, “Evgenia 2.0” has come to being then.

At the same time, who knows what the future will bring? Not just for Evgenia, but for the other Russian skaters. There will inevitably be those who will face injuries, those who will go through puberty and whatnot. Some will cope and some won’t. Evgenia is very smart to position herself well to deal with the uncertainties.

That's a positive and realistic analysis there! As fans we should trust Zhenya and support her. Patience is key here and I can't wait to see how her programs progress and improve as the season goes on.

That's true we can only predict who we think will win competitions in future seasons, there's no 100% guarantee whoever we choose. The competition next season will be very tough but this sport is so unpredictable it's nearly impossible to know how it'll all play out.

A bit into the future but I'm kind of worried for Zhenya at Russian Nationals. Of course I believe in her (and in the interview she said she's aiming for top two) but against Alina and Eteris' super junior team, I'm kind of worried of the immense competition.

As a fellow fan I've sometimes looked too far into her future competitions but it just isn't worth the extra stress. It's hard but it's good to not look to far ahead as things can change rapidly, especially in this sport. I'm trying to just focus on one Zhenya competition and result at a time, and not think to far into the future. [emoji4]

Lipnistaya, Evgenia, Shelepen and Pogorilaya

Zhenya has trained with all of them, so she knows how good they are. As long as only one senior girl beats her, she is going to worlds. Plus she will be more comfortable with her programs by Dec.
I think this season Alina and Elizaveta Tuktamysheva can beat her but there is also Sotskova so everything can happen.

Evgenia added picture on the instagram wearing her new Nike shoes  Even in tracksuit she looks great! And her hair remind me of 1980s movie heroines

I was taking a look at her ACI protocols and:

SP

1 3Lz! 5.90 0.12 2 1 1 0 0 -1 -1 6.02
2 2A 3.30 -0.59 -2 -1 -1 -2 -3 -2 -2 2.71
3 CSp4 2.60 0.68 2 3 3 2 3 3 2 3.28
4 3F+3T 10.45x 1.38 2 3 3 2 3 3 2 11.83
5 StSq3 3.30 1.12 3 4 3 3 4 3 4 4.42
6 FSSp4 3.00 0.90 2 3 3 2 4 4 3 3.90
7 CCoSp4 3.50 1.12 2 4 2 3 4 4 3 4.62

If clean her 2A would score around 1,30 points more, het 3lz! in the FS scored 0.50 more, stsq level 4 would be 0.60 more -> already 2,5 points more than at ACI with only the most obvious mistakes corrected -> 73,50 - if she gets better PCS for a clean performance -> 75\76 points for the SP

FS

1 3Lz! 5.90 0.59 2 1 1 1 1 1 0 6.49
2 2A 3.30 0.66 2 2 2 2 2 2 3 3.96
3 3F+2T+2T 7.90 1.27 2 2 2 2 3 3
4 9.17 4 FCSp4 3.20 0.77 3 2 3 2 4 2 2 3.97
5 ChSq1 3.00 1.60 4 3 2 3 4 4 1 4.60
6 2A 3.30 -0.86 -2 -3 -2 -3 -3 -2 -3 2.44
7 3F+3T 10.45 x 1.38 2 2 2 3 3 3 3 11.83
8 3S+3T 9.35 x 1.46 3 3 3 3 4 4 4 10.81
9 3Lo< < 4.05 x -1.84 -5 -5 -5 -5 -5 -5 -5 2.21
10 FCCoSp1V 1.50 -0.12 -3 1 0 -2 0 -1 -1 1.38
11 StSq3 3.30 0.92 3 3 3 3 3 2 2 4.22
12 CCoSp4 3.50 1.05 2 3 3 3 4 4 2 4.55

2A can get 1,5 points more, 3lo can get around 4,20 more, FCCoSP level 4 gets her around 3,40 more, stsq level 4 gets her 0.60 more -> 9,70 points more than at ACI -> around 143 points -> better PCS for a better performance = around 146 points total.

In TES she lost around 2,5 in the SP and around 9,70 in the FS = she can get at least 12 points more in TES only. If she has a clean performance we should add around 5\6 points in PCS to those 12, and that would land her at around 221 points, a score that can win her SCI comfortably and secure her a medal at IdF even if Rika beats her. Ofc, if she got higher GOE as well her score would be even higher, not to mention that her PCS will probably grow more than just 5 points during the rest of the season if she does well.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk lol

Recently I've been thinking a little about what lead me to become such a fan of Zhenya.

I think it was the drama of her programs. The pantomime, the movie soundtrack music, the narratives... It may be because I am a moody teenager but I connected with it. Her performance, her choreography, her costumes, it was all so in tune and set up such an atmosphere whenever I opened up a video of her skating. She has an 'it' factor to her, an ability to immerse herself in the music and express it through her skating. From there I eventually read about her competition record and watched her and Alina's Olympic skates, and was promptly crushed with second-hand disappointment for her. And then it was only a matter of time. In a few months, following figure skating became one of my regular hobbies, and practically part of my daily routine.

I think after we've all had a good bit of time to absorb Zhenya's programs for this season, and I think I can admit now that I don't like them as much as her old ones. But I think part of being a fan of is being able to accept when you simply don't like something as much as you thought.

But that's fine! I'm sure that in the future of her long career, Zhenya will have programs that I fall in love with, programs I remain lukewarm to, and programs that I grow to appreciate. Such is the nature of being a fan. Or maybe Zhenya will never again have a dramatic, serious program that I fall in love with. But I think I will stay a fan for years to come because of how she struck me, and how I connected with her, and because I'm pretty sure I will always just admire her so very much.

:agree: But I find that her programs get better and better every competition, so I still think these programs this season will be great. Plus I always love her exhibition skates, I cannot wait for Skate Canada!!

As much as I like her short program with Orange Sky, I think she is more suited to a different type of program. She is known for her storytelling with the miming that some people can't stand. I think next season, maybe she should go back to the dramatic storytelling programs that she is known for. Every skater has a unique style that suits their strengths. Alexandra Trusova does high energy programs while Alena Kostornaya does more classical graceful programs. Also, Evgenia seems to really enjoy skating to a program that tells a story.

I also really enjoy her SP this season. I understand the sentiment about it being such a drastic departure from the style we got used to seeing her skate. However, for now at least, I think it is wise to avoid a direct comparison of her programs and scores to her programs and scores in the past seasons. There are people who are waiting for Evgenia to make a mistake and to fail, unfortunately. And if she scored even a point lower doing the same style/program that she did with her previous team, I bet the already maniacal reactions to her competition scores so far, would be even worse.

I was feeling the same way but it is good for her to try new things. It will help her grow as a skater. I can't blame here though. If you had the same program style for a very long time you would want to do the same. The exciting part for me is that Autumn Classic was a while ago and she will have had a month of training to improve for Skate Canada. I hope she has gotten over her nerves and is really able to sell the programs now.
