Evgenia Medvedeva

I don’t think the situation is quite so dire that she needs a Nathan Chen moment.

Zhenya really can move up a lot of placements with a good FS.

I meant to go in the FS and just skate like she had nothing to lose. May actually calm her nerves.

I was thinking about whether I should go to watch her live tomorrow. I, too, have been thinking I might be jinxing her! But in the end, I think I will show up to support her there. I want to cheer as loudly as I can for her.

Hey, just wondering as to why Zhenya lost levels on spins and step sequences? I'm so used to her basically getting guaranteed level 4s in these areas, I'm curious as to how these work?

Uhh...I don't know how could zhenya said everything's good after she saw her flip(I really don't wanna call it lutz, cuz her lutz is still more inside edge than many skater's flip), and I think she really means it. Actually I feel sad for her because it is not her fault but the judge's. The judges have unfairly spared her for too long, which affects her realization on that jump and finally causes her to miss the best time to fix it.
If the judges want to be unfair, then do not call that jump forever. If judges want to be fair, then remain fair all the time, which is the best for both the skaters and themselves.

It would be hard for zhenya to be asada cause at least asada got to compete in two Olympics, but now with all those tremendous juniors in Russia, even alina can hardly make it to Beijing, not to mention zhenya.

Orser isn't to blame. She's been looking great in practice and this was just a freak accident. They should consider putting the combo first though, or at least making that an option.
In a brief interview in the mixed zone with TSN, Zhenya said she was overconfident and lost focus for a moment.

Her thought was that overconfidence from all the great practices combined with so many new things, and momentary loss of focus, suddenly the jump was lost.

She says also that she will fight tomorrow.

She was referring to everything before the flip, which was indeed very good for what she's capable of. So far, senior judging has (for the most part) been stricter all around than last year. Everything from step/spin levels to edge calls to URs. It may not even have to do with placement on ice/coaching change/reputation that her lutz is being called now.

:scratch2::( well, I knew it, I had a bad feeling. And usually my feelings regarding Zhenya turns.out to be true. Well, I'm upset but I believe in her. But she needs to stay away from all the media, completely.

Guys, it's my fault. I was at Jason and her warm-ups where they were doing 3As and 3-3s left and right with not a single miss. I'm superstitious. So another GS-er and I are going for brunch and day drinking and skipping the FS warmups. May they slay tomorrow. :)

I really did enjoy the SP so much, mistake and all, she really did perform her heart out there.

When I was driving today I had a vision that she stepped out of a jump the way she did tonight. I was in shock because I have never seen that happen before. I hope I see a different vision tomorrow or nothing at all!

It's a shame Med missed her combo, at first I didn't realise she had so was super confused by the 0 in the TES box.

However! I still really love program :) I think Zhenya's suited to jazz, she did the playfulness at the beginning so well!

I've got my fingers crossed that she can come back big time with her FS tomorrow (I'm sure she and her team have been working on it - especially the step sequence).

Talking about superstitions/jinxes- after she completed the first two jumps, I said to myself, “saving the combo for last seems pretty risky.. I hope she makes it” and then she missed the combination and I just stared at my phone screen in complete shock. Oh well. Tomorrow is a new day and I’m wishing her the best. I believe in her and I’m glad that I can participate in a fan fest like this where so many people support and cherish her as I do.

Zhenya is human and of course she too will make mistakes from time to time. But, in my opinion, there is no getting around the fact that this SP is a flop that doesn't suit her at all.

That score and placement must have been really hard for her to process. I hope she picks herself up and can do her best tomorrow. Good luck, Zhenya!

That's way too strong to say it's a flop. It's quite delightful conceptually, but just needs a bit more bubbliness to it. It's very much a Mariah Bell-type program and would be hard to transition to if you've spent your whole career skating to very cerebral or dramatic music, but she'll get used to it as the season goes on. It's a good way to develop artistic variety. Speaking of which, that may explain why she said she lost focus going into the flip. It's a lot easier to be intensely focused with dramatic music and facial expressions than when you're trying to skate with ease in a light, bubbly way.

is bronze still achievable ?
I think 60 with the rest at 66 excluding Tuk isnt that far behind, as long as she skates clean in the FS, maybe even a silver if Wakaba messes up ?

I think Medvedeva could be this quads Mao Asada, a one time Olympic silver medalist
then after her medal she struggles and gets hammered in lutz, etc.

I think with a clean skate Zhenya can be the second. If Lisa doesn't have a clean horse, she'll be the first.

Is anyone else mad because of the lower level spin and step sequence? I was prepared for jump mistakes for this season, but it angers me so much to see imperfections in places where she was really great. It's really annoying to me. I was enjoying the program a lot, even with the missed combo. But I really don't understand why they haven't looked into the spin and the step sequence. It's just unfair to her. I love her though, I enjoyed this and I will enjoy the fs too for sure ^^

I think they did. The spins and step sequence she lost levels on was after the flip freak out. Orser even said something along the lines of “the last spin...“ but I didn‘t hear the rest. It‘s weird, though. Everything‘s weird. I‘m just hoping this is like with Yuzu. He wasn‘t doing well during his first time at TCC either. And then suddenly, he did. But oh well, what to say. The problem started right from the beginning. I know we all love Zhenya and she did her best to sell the program but she seemed fearful right from the beginning. In practice, there was never any sense of hesitation, I didn‘t even consider her missing a jump because she just seemed so confident. Here she was slow upon entering the jumps. Especially that freak flip. But I hope they can work on that. Maybe she should stop reading the comments on social media. I know she‘s a fighter and I know she says they don‘t get to her but well... sometimes unconciously they do. I wish for her that everything will go well in the FS. I‘m not hoping for gold, with the way Liza has skated these past weeks that‘s probably totally out of question. No idea about silver but I‘m praying for a bronze at least!! You can do it, Zhenya! Just focus on one element at a time.

There are two possibilities for today‘s FS actually.

Either Zhenya completely flips out due to pressure (which I don‘t hope.... I don‘t want another heartbreak...) and misses everything. Doesn‘t sound like Zhenya at all.

Or she uses everything she has and sells the heck out of every jump, spin and footwork, not thinking about pressure and just skating.

Second one sounds more like the Zhenya we know. Personally, I‘m hoping! She‘s proven lots of people wrong before. I hope she can do it again.
