Evgenia Medvedeva

Is there any information on the gala. Time and stream?

Exhibition program List are up on twitter but when I tried to link it here it got bounced back.

Med is skating in 8th position in the second half of Gala. I believe it starts at 2:00 pm Canadian time not sure though.

Judging of the ladies has been quite fair and consistent these first two GPs. Tough calls for edges and URs. PCS and GOE not given out like candy. Everyone has really worked for their scores IMO. The judges right now have the opportunity to keep that consistency through the rest of the GPs, it'll be interesting to see if they do (and personally I don't believe they will) It'll be really unfortunate if they don't take this great start to remain fair.

Praying for IDF - Rika is a tough opponent, but I have faith in Zhenya! A win would be ideal to guarantee her the final, so hopefully she manages that :)

Rika has 3A-3T and 3A... that‘s more than tough. Of course I‘m hoping for Zhenya to win but Rika seems pretty consistent this season so far, I don‘t think she‘ll make too many mistakes.

Honestly, after yesterday I think we have to prepare for Zhenya not going to the final. I don‘t want this to happen of course but there is a legitimate chance. Rika is strong, so is Bradie. And GPF isn‘t as important for Zhenya as RusNats. She needs to regain her Russian #2 spot because Liza is here to grab it. So, it would be a shame if she misses out on the final but at least she‘d have more time to work and improve.

She has done a lot in a month, though. The jumps all looked wonderful in practice, even some improvements on the lutz edge. Steps finally level 4 in the FS, better interpretation, fiercer. But there are a lot of issues, too, mainly spins and stamina, so I really don‘t know how she‘ll fare. It‘s been pretty unpredictable so far. I‘m curious and I‘ll cheer her on but I won‘t expect too much. This GP has taught me this. This season is an adjustment period and there will be bumps on the road. I‘ll try to be patient for now. Of course I want her in the GPF and I think she‘ll fight in France. Let‘s see whether it will be enough.

Anyway, her signature move is back! :cheer:

I'm so happy she did a really good job in that FP and she's really getting the hang of the program and selling it. I was skeptical because I adored her old programs and didn't mind the "miming" at all, but I really do think this one is wonderful.

That said, can we agree that her layout isn't really logical? I don't see a single reason why they would keep the single 3Lz in the FP, for obvious reasons. I think she should remove the Lz from the short as well. When she gets edge calls, the judges subconsciously don't want to give her higher component scores (which imo are the main problem in her latest scores). Also, her 3S+3Lo from that instagram video looks brilliant - I hope she tries it in competition.

About the components: I really, really don't understand what's the matter with judges 4-6. Do they just hate her or what?!? 7,5 and 7,75 for transitions? Ok, they really aren't as good as the last two years, but not giving her at least 8,25 is just ridiculous. Also - less than 8,5 for skating skills? Judge 4 gave her 7,75 for Interpretation of Music?!?! I have no problem with her GOE's and in all honesty, the first Lz was on the wrong edge and not flat, but the components from these three judges are preposterous.

I have a question in the maximum possible score for the SP and FS for Zhenya. I am also interested in its comparison with Alina. This is with the assumption that they both excute their programme perfectly.

Her short program. I think the first jump should be the 3-3, no lutz, and I want her bangs back.
Her long program. Only one lutz, her hair and dress are perfect. What do you think?

IT's the bangs! No wonder that I kept feeling that her face looked strange to me in the SP, LOL

This is my dream for this year:
- cleaning up those messy messy spins, even without the layback, just get those level 4's and all requirements so we don't see those V's anymore...
SP: 3F3T 2A 3Lo* + BANGS
FP: 3Lz2T2T 2A 3S3Lo 2A (if she misses the first Lo she can try again here because she's been working on 2A3Lo as well) 3F3T* 3F* 3Lo*

Maybe these base values aren't as high, but going perfectly clean will earn her much more than high base values, even though it unfortunately did come down to the base values last year :(

I don't want to put anyone's spirits down, but if her components don't get close to where they were last year, I don't see her beating Alina and Rika Hikira this season. Rika's 3A's are really consistent, and the judges seem to think Alina deserves the same components like last year (which magically exploded from average 8,5 to nearly 9,5 in a month), while Evgenia's suddenly aren't as good anymore
On the other hand, I'm sure she sees a challenge in this situation and doesn't feel demotivated so this will drive her forward. Perhaps she gets inspired by Tuktamysheva who seemed to have lost it at one point and came back this season in all her glory. We all know she can do it!

I am proud of you Zhenya. In honor of you I did Kareoke to Orange Colored Sky last night at a party. Not kidding.

I think it's fair to say that Skate Canada was even tougher than Skate America or ACI, in terms of ladies and the tech panel. I think it's too early to count Zhenya out of GPF. I think the number of lutzes need to go (especially if she's not getting any positive GOE on them) and her base value compared to even her other competitors here seems pretty low... I think her team should probably leave the experimenting for during training but on the big stages, leave them out because this next GP is going to really count. Hope we can see the 220+ Zhenya again, I know she can do it!

Right now in the FS (repeating Lutz and Toe) Zhenya's base value is 45.7.

My ideal for her would be for her to repeat Flip and Loop. Only small changes are needed for this.

3Lz+2T+2T
2A
3F (currently it's 3Lz)
2A
---
3F+3T
3S+3Lo (currently it's +3T)
3Lo

The base value is a bit higher at 46.36 and on paper seems more comfortable for her (and makes her less vulnerable because only 1 Lutz)

I can't explain how happy I feel for Zhenya !! This Oprah gif meme represents me so much. judges were very strict, I must say that I expected more pcs for the Lp, she added transitions, her speed and flow was much better, and her expression also ...
Her LP I like more and more, I'm dying to see the final version (and I love the new dress, she looks so good in black!!:drama:)
Her SP does not convince me yet, but I know that she will do everything possible to improve it,I did't like her dress too much, it doesn't match the theme of the music, I expected a dress like Samodurova or Eunsoo Lim.

I think they should change the second Lutz for a 3F, and if she keeps training her jumps, maybe add a 3S-3Lo (that combo was so good: a lot of speed in the rotation, and great distance in the Salchow, she had made that combo before, but it was much smaller). Fortunately there is a whole month to refine details and achieve more consistency in the jumps.

I believe that for Evgenia everything is possible.
