Evgenia Medvedeva

I just read Layshev's post and liked it a lot but the fact that comments are disabled should've told me that people didn't take it well. :palmf: The truth is really a trigger for some human beings.

Well the people that don't like it can go stew in their own deluded anger. She is loved by fans, fellow FS, other coaches and just about anyone involved in figure skating....

Another analysis about what is happening to her skating

This guy is entitled to his opinion like everyone else, but he seems to forget that Eteri’s technique wasn’t working for Zhenya anymore and was actually causing and/or aggravating injuries.

Also, the jab about Zhenya working with a nutritionist was uncalled for especially since the Russian method, at least for girls going through puberty, is “keep the food out of your mouth”.

Also he seemed to imply that Zhenya looked out of shape. I think she looks stronger and healthier.

Also how do they know how much ice time they get? I highly doubt that she is skating 1.5 hours a day?

I think this is in reference to an interview that Brian gave recently where he said he works with everyone (which I construed to include Evgenia) for 3 or something hours and with Evgenia only for an hour each day. However, Brian (I think in another interview(?)) also said that Evgenia was training in the rink everyday.

I think at this point, people will conveniently pick out words from Evgenia and Brian that support their arguments. It is one thing to express an opinion, it is another to try to pass off opinion as facts. Truth is, he does not really know Evgenia's training regimen, nowhere in the article does it say that he talked to Brian about this.

Yes, I know we all have our own opinions. But this guy...For a professional commentator he doesn't even try to hide and cover his bias. He literally h.ates Papadakis ana Cizeron, last year.he was pretty much hysterical during Worlds. I know they all have their favourites, but this is new level. This time he took offence at Zhenya's words about media frenzy (though she didn't even mention media), I wouldn't pay attention to him, cause all af this are pure speculation. Just hoping Evgenia completely ignores russian media these days.

Hi. Im sorry that I dont post here often because of my too busy schedule. But its important for me to say that I was there in Grenoble and right after the short program I managed to give to Brian a small present to Zhenya. The present was not so important but I wrote in the note that we love her for the wonderful feeling of happiness she gives us every time she skates and that we adore her courage and that she has to go on to fulfill her dream and we will always support her no matter what. We support every her desicion and wish her happiness.
Thank you for doing that. So nice ^^

Natalia Bestemianova (former ice dancer who won OSM and many other titles with Ivan Bukin’s father) has chimed in with her thoughts:

I don’t think Eteri is the devil but I think she has a very uncompromising approach to coaching. I am also starting to feel like her back injury is much more serious than was let on- with her foot injury we knew what happened, where she got treatment (Germany), etc. Her back injury was mentioned once or twice and all we knew is that it was still healing before ACI and we don’t know if it’s been healed already

Also does anyone know why she went to Germany for treatment? It seems expensive and inconvenient. And she said in an interview that the German doctors gave out vitamins so that the bone quickly came together and healed...what are these vitamins???? Can she share them with Yuzu lol

German orthopaedists have huge experience when it comes to sports medicine and injuries which occure to elite athletes. They have clients from all around the Europe because even though treatment is expensive it’s also effective. Also Evgenia is a member of national team so it’s quite possible that her club asked for financial support from RusFed when it came to pay for medical bills. Also I guess that word “vitamins” is a huge simplification. Patients rarely remember what kind of medicine they take or were given in hospital. I can say from experience on this field that if you ask a person who has been treated for hypertension what pills does he/she take the answer will describe the colour of pill and its size but you won’t get the name.

Also Yuzuru’s problem are usually connected with joints. Sprained ankle is harder to treat than stress fracture.

Re: Eteri. I can’t believe she gave decent and tactful answer about Evgenia’s results and whole media storm

Can you comment Zhenya skating in France ? - No

Why such an interest in Eugenia, why everyone asks only about her? - Maybe because she is a two-time world champion?

https://youtu.be/iKZ6S3Gs27U

I think the smart thing for this year was not compete in the GP circuit or just in the late ones ... but she compete and faill .. it's not the end of world

She is angry ... Angry zhenya is a competitive one .... For 3 years she hadn't to worry for the competition ... and is the first year of a olympic circle ( so faill now and conquer late) ...
I have this feeling that for russian nationals she will be better ... and for worlds she will conquer them all ( something like daleman ou osmond) ....

Is this an official interview? Who made it? And Eteri said the part about the “two time world champion“ ? Interesting.

With my minimal understanding of russian, yes, that is what Eteri said there. Don't know who is that interviewer (probably just another s-word journalist).

I have absolutely no understanding of Russian so that‘s why I had to ask. Anyway, I think it‘s good that she answers like this. I‘m not someone for all these media wars. In fact, even though I‘m still pretty salty that Eteri had to go to National TV and say... things about Zhenya after she left, I do hope Zhenya and Eteri could maybe talk privately one day and solve the matter once and for all. Not for the media, not for us but for them. I have no idea what their relationship really was like, only what it looked like on TV and they seemed to be close. Which makes sense, they did spend lots of years together after all and to end it in hostility? At least they could try to settle this and part ways in respect, maybe not now but in a few months/years when everyone has calmed down a bit. Idk if that‘s possible, whether they‘d even want it or not but in any case: I would really appreciate it if people would just shut up and let both sides live in peace without them having to CONSTANTLY answer questions about each other.

She said she is not the Queen. This is true because she is the Tsarina! :) Actually she is the Tsarina in exile, hidden away in Canada, being prepared by her mentors until the time is right for her to reveal herself to the world and regain the throne. :)

This is actually a running theme throughout Russian history, not just the whole Anastasia mythos of the 1950's/1960's when everyone thought she was still alive (or the Crown Prince). Multiple times throughout Russian history the people gathered around a rumor of an "heir" who was supposed to have been dead but was thought to be alive somewhere.

My thoughts exactly.

I was thinking the exact same thing. They need to hug it out!

The same thing happened with Medvedeva. Her programs have always been organic and fit the wife. And now we see a Russian girl in the American style. And it does not look. For such a program, Ashley Wagner is needed, she performs this great, ”says Zhurankov

Oh, Google translator - you are so senseless and merciless!

right - "Her programs have always been organic and fit to her (Zhenya)"

In Russian her name in the dative case (or prepositional) sounds and spelling the same (almost) as the word "wife" in the dative case.

"Подарите моей жене подарок!" (Give my wife a present!)
"Подарите моей Жене подарок!" (Give my Zhenya a present!)

There are some minor differences - when pronouncing a word "wife" the emphasis is on the last syllable ("женЕ"), when "Znenya" - on the first syllable ("жЕне"). And name is written with a capital letter. Therefore, living people are not confused with these words.

But this little dummy - Google translator, "does not see" the capital letter and translates "Zhenya" (in the dative or prepositional) as "wife", so don't be surprised to see this word in the next Google translation some article about Zhenya :)

Regarding Golden Spin: Pogorilaya withdrew indeed but Sotskova is taking her place so no Challenger event for Zhenya. :/ I think another competition before Nationals would have been good for her but since it's the same weekend as GPF they probably didn't even think about entering her there.
