Evgenia Medvedeva

In the GPF it was a conference room and here we have Russians Nats like its a royal event. Bring your nice clothes kids, we are meeting the queen:handw:

The short is much better than before.

At the same time, it basically represents a going back to Eteri's style of sorts: combo first, no 3Lz (3Lo instead), more transitions in and out of jumps, and more of her old style. Perhaps she is beginning to realize Brian's techniques will not work for her.

She doesn’t have to throw out every single thing because she has a new coach. The 2A is definitely better, and that’s definitely a Brian technique thing.

I’m glad she gave OCS a try and maybe she will get back to it sometime. But this is is all part of the process.

I think they're just playing it safe to make the euro/worlds team

Not saying I wasn‘t surprised at them changing the layout (I was) but she also has more flow, clearly focuses on gliding and stroking more and has improved her skating skills. And what‘s so bad about transitions just because Eteri has a lot of them in her students‘ programs? If they‘re done well and incorporated into the program without looking akward, they can be great and exciting to look at. The layout... well, they tried something new but saw that the backloaded combo didn‘t work out (failed them twice in her GP events) so they changed it. No idea why the loop instead of lutz but if it makes her feel calmer, then I‘m all for it.

lmao, sorry, but how meaningless is this.
Obviously the change of technical layout was a decision made by the non result of having the combo in the second half, it was simply a logical choice due to the success rate. The loop is one of her best jumps, and obviously they are betting on the GOE as is typical of the Orser students.

There is a lot of evidence from the Orser school, especially in the first half and stsq: acceleration and deceleration show better control at the edges and flows, and it is strictly related to the improvement in SS that Tracy has been rebuilding. In fact certain movements can be seen in programs by Hanyu and Javier; the sliding back is something they do a lot.

I do not see this as an Eteri Style or a setback, none of the current Eteri girls have dramatic programs that reach the level of W / E or Karenina, what we can conclude is that the almost theatrical drama is an inherent thing in Zhenya, part of her personal strength that she developed over 4 international seasons, she is very expressive in her face as in the upper part of her body, and Misha understands that, to bring up the strengths with a classical piece of music like this one (zhenya had never skating a classic pure piece) is a totally sensible and correct decision. Zhenya can show off her inherent strengths and and at the same time show her improvements in SS, flow and takeoff in edge jumps.
This is a progressive work.

That's exactly what I think. I think she tried to throw out way too much from Eteri, and it was not a good idea since most of it was very good (as seen by how well she was doing). Now she is realizing that was not a smart decision, and she is incorporating more of her old style.

Here is what Brian has to say:

“The change of Zhenya’s program does not mean that the past short was unsuccessful. It’s just uncomfortable at this stage to act in that style, and we almost simultaneously after the French Grand Prix stage came to the conclusion that the program should be changed. But it’s quite possible that Zhenya will soon return to the style that was laid in the basis of the previous short one"

I really hope she does well with her new short program. It must have been hard to learn it in such a sort amount of time.
