"But like I said to Tracy the other day, we were working on a certain section of her program, and [Evgenia] kinda came out of the corner, came around to do a triple Salchow and, without her even knowing, she was going so fast, and she had a bigger stride. And she wasn’t doing it for us – she was just doing it. In one little part. And I grabbed Tracy’s arm, and I said: “There, look! She gets it! In just one little part, she gets it!” And she’s not even trying, all she thinks about is the jump. So there’s gonna be little moments like that where you see the evolution of what we’re trying to do."
 
More thoughts on this season. Everybody put your seatbelts on this season is not over yet!

More thoughts on Euros. Zhenya, Stanislava and Sofia have relatively low seasons best. Europeans is a great way for them to rise. And it is important, because I predict 4 skaters will have theirs raised at 4CC. The Russian federation wants their skaters to dominate. All three can podium at Europeans, so that is important too. A decision for worlds is further out. But the last thing they want is another year with no medalists. And they want a podium sweep there too. So Zhenya may not have a choice, they may ask her to go. Also the skaters may all be asked to skate at a Russia Cup, because 3 spots are too important. And the Japanese are too strong to ignore.

So funny , because this morning I thought today might be her last skate for awhile and now I do not think so. :biggrin:
 
One thing I also loved today -- there was no "angry Zhenya" look before the program started. Anger did not make it easier for her. It may sound weird considering that she was 14th, but she seemed confident this time. She was confident about who she was and why she was there, she was not lost anymore, she was not looking for the right emotion (anger, sadness, etc.) she was at ease. And I felt so relieved as well, right from the start.
 
Am I the only one who really disliked that untypical gesture to the crowd? It is so unlike EM and looks somehow cheap for her. It works for Liza, but EM is a performer, an artist who is always in character, so interacting with the audience somehow suddenly takes her out of the character she is portraying. And it doesn't fit tango at all. Besides, asking them to clap is really cringeworthy. The audience should clap when the music, the performance or the atmosphere provoke it; not when you ask them to. Anyway, everything else was great and I hope she won't repeat it ever again. It was probably Brian's idea anyway, because she didn't seem very comfortable doing it. At least she kept the gesture small :-)

Everyone loved it except those who try to find something negative in everything she does. Do you have nothing nice to say? So just because Liza does it, no one else is allowed to do that? Can't you see how happy she was?
"It was probably Brian's idea anyway, because she didn't seem very comfortable doing it." This is the most ridiculous thing I've read today. Blaming Brian for every damn thing she does is a trend nowadays, Isn't it?

I for one loved that.
 
It was very clear from Brian‘s reaction that he was NOT expecting her to do that, in fact. :laugh: He was doing choreo with her and closed his arms and she opened them instead and interacted with the audience. He saw that and smiled slightly.

Btw Zhenya has a new insta story and she’s wearing a black, sparkly face mask. :biggrin: No idea what she’s saying as it‘s in Russian, though.
 
I am over the moon happy for Zhenya today!!!

I was busy all evening and couldn't watch her live, but kept refreshing this thread and wow it was so amazing (and such a relief) to see all the positive comments come up!

She was on fire today - I agree with what someone said a few posts back that she just looked so confident and like she wanted to be there and skate, and that it wasn't just anger at a bad short program fuelling the performance. I think it made all the difference!
I loved the clapping gesture, you could see how much fun she was having out there on the ice in my opinion, and I thought it was so sweet.

and that new dress is everything :luv17: she is seriously so beautiful!

I believe I clearly said "Everything else was great" and also managed to complement her as a true performer and artist. It didn't make sense to me to repeat all the positives that have already been said in the previous posts. Nevertheless, sorry if I broke some forum rule of writing only compliments and never commenting on the tiny bit you didn't like. As you can see, I am new to this forum and not sure if I will stay.

Regarding Brian - he is her coach, he instructs her. She respects him and normally follows his instructions. So, yes, Brian has some responsibility and influence for what she does on the ice, right? Please note that you have used the word "blame", while it became clear that I represent only a tiny minority that didn't like the gesture. Since everyone else loved it, if it was Brian idea, he should probably take the credit, not the blame.

Regarding Liza - I never said that only Liza should do it. I said it suits Liza better and is unlike Medvedeva.

Finally, I don't really understand where the drama and the hostility comes from. Maybe chill a bit?

We certainly don‘t have to say only positive things in here. Everyone‘s allowed to have their own opinion and voice them, as long as they‘re doing it respectfully. Constructive (stress on that word!!) criticism is necessary and good and we certainly aren’t always solely sunshine. We have things to say about the areas Zhenya can improve in. No one in here thinks she‘s perfect and no one should be pressured into thinking so either. In fact, a little criticism here and there is necessary for me not to get bored, I personally will get very tired and even annoyed if it‘s just constant gushing and talking about how Zhenya is the best and most humble and wonderful person in the world and the most perfect skater to have ever graced the ice. No thanks. We all gush a lot obviously but we have serious discussions too and I personally love this aspect. And Zhenya’s 19, obviously she has flaws and sometimes makes bad decisions or says something wrong. It would be creepy if she didn’t. :laugh:

And obviously we‘re very passionate in here and all have a different opinion, so it can get heated too. Maybe your comment about the gesture could come of as a bit rude, but I think it‘s obvious you didn’t mean any harm. It‘s perfectly okay not to like it, especially since it really doesn‘t fit the tango program. But I don‘t think it‘s cheap either which is what you said and could get misunderstood easily. :)
