Evgenia Medvedeva

Don‘t you like her new dresses? I think they‘re her best this season. I think both designs fit the programs well. But that‘s probably personal taste and a more subjective matter.

The Tosca one was fine. I liked the sleeves. The new black one was also fine. But I’m waiting for like that moment where the dress becomes a part of the program and that didn’t happen this season.

It also reminds me of my compulsive shopping problem lol, where if I buy something new sometimes because I feel like I need to control some other aspect of my life that’s is out of control. It’s probably not that serious but I want her to save some money too!!

I really like her new dresses, especially the tango one

If she isn't going to compete this season, at least I hope she does a couple of shows to practice her programms with less pressure and of course get some money to pay her training.

I think the becoming a part of the program part actually comes with seeing it on her multiple times ^_^

Zhenya, Brian & David have gotten to know eachother much more since putting together her programs in the beginning of the season. I believe that they could come up with even more brilliant programs for next season (whether that means them doing it, or them realizing they should bring it someone else like Misha.. or Shae Lynn.. maybe I'm projecting with this one lol) Not only that, but if she doesn't compete the rest of the season, then she essentially has a head start for next season and a long time to make her programs perfect and get comfortable with them.

I'm not against her keeping her programs (especially Tosca) because I like them and I guess they could grow a bit more, but she just has so much time to improve and grow and I'd like her to present new, fresh, better programs to show that growth. But I will definitely miss her new LP dress... it's my favorite dress she's EVER had, and she's had some really great ones.

I mean... just look

Exactly but even that awful blue dress didn’t make much of an impression. And I mean awful just for the program, it was a decent dress in general but like...did not fit with the music

I spy with my little eye my new avatar!

I am impressed with Ladu. When I first looked at her work on her IG page, I thought her work good but wasn't sure if she could make something special enough for Zhenya. Well, she has now.

I guess I was super fast ahahha TSL video out now

I feel you on that picture

Sooo, if you‘ve watched it... what do you think? It‘s 1 a.m. here already for me, I‘m literally not ready to form some coherent sentences or make any reasonable comments right now so I‘ll leave that for tomorrow.

In short: I found some of the things they said interesting, some pretty amusing and some just kind of :palmf: worthy because it was obvious that this was just gossip. So, judging by all the reactions I had, it feels like a typical TSL.

Nah, but honestly, what do you think of what they said about Zhenya? The mom thing keeps popping up. Is she really that involved? I do remember that after the SP there was a short discussion about Brian saying: “Oh, you‘re mom‘s gonna freak out“ and Zhenya was like: “Yeah, what we‘re gonna do“ It seemed like half-real, half-joking. She never seemed that involved to me but obviously she moved to another country with her daughter, that has to say something, that she‘s supportive.

I have no idea actually. My brain is sleep deprived but I‘m feeling pretty conflicted about this whole recap.

TSL bringing some verrrry interesting insights into the coaching situation. All but confirms that TCC went at the coaching with an incorrect mindset this season.

First of all, TSL never confirms anything. They got the new SP right but I don‘t see any golden dress anywhere, do you? ;) It‘s kind of their thing, there‘s some truth and truly insightful stuff in their words and then there‘s some made up rumours and gossip, too. It‘s their way to get people talking about them, it‘s their way to be successful. Which is okay. But I‘ll always take everything they say with a grain of salt because you can basically never know whether it‘s the rumours part or the real part you‘re getting.

I do agree that there were some mistakes being made this season by Brian and his team. It‘s obvious that he‘s only now truly realising the insane depth Russia has in ladies. That yes, a 62 SP will get you in 14th out of 18 competitors. That yes, there are girls doing quads who will move up to seniors next year. And that yes, even if they happen to lose all their jumps to puberty, once the next Olympics are there, another bunch of 15 year old first year seniors will be ready with the jump arsenal on their pre-pubescent body to completely dominate the ladies event. If it‘s not Polina, then it will be Yulia or Adelina or Evgenia or Alina or Sasha or Kamila. And even for Kamila who‘s not even in juniors yet girls are waiting in the line to replace her. Akatieva and co. And even if it isn‘t them (remember how other tiny prodigies didn‘t win the Olympics but a girl that was virtually unknown before her first successful junior season) some girl will always be ready. That‘s the situation in Russian FS and it won‘t change anytime soon.

It was about time he realised this. That reworking Zhenya‘s whole technique will not get her on top again just like that. It will not be as easy and I‘m thankful that he‘s stopped saying, her titles are only the tip of the iceberg and she‘ll be a champion again soon. Because in Russian ladies figure skating... it will be harder. Reworking her technique is truly the only chance Zhenya has for the future to even continue and that‘s why she‘s taken this path. But one knows whether that will be enough or not. It will surely be difficult as hell. I think he‘s getting it now, though. Just like Zhenya is getting the TCC philosophy more. Nationals while on paper and for someone who just looks at the actual result and score sheet, unsuccessful for a two time world champion, looks like it has switched something in both of them. I think they - Brian and Zhenya - have learned important lessons from this competition, more than they would have taken away with a medal. And it‘s great to see Zhenya happy. Yes, she didn‘t qualify for Euros or Worlds but maybe that‘s a blessing in disguise and just what she needs to heal properly and get to work on her programs for next season now already.

But TSL... come on. Yeah, the FS isn‘t the best program but to say it‘s not working for her? She sold the heck out of that here and at SCI. And also... if she gets to go to Worlds or Euros (which she won‘t but since they were talking about this) changing the FS just for that would be NOT a good idea. Better keep a FS she‘s having fun with and a new SP than having TWO new programs that on paper might be better but she fails to pull off due to a lack of muscle memory.

And what I also don‘t think they got right is that Brian went into this season expecting her to be World Champ. When did he say that? I don‘t remember an interview like that. I do remember that he said before Nationals that “if Zhenya is clean she can win this“ to which I was just thinking.. oh boy. Yeah, she can theoretically but she’ll need to be clean first. The pressure is on her. That‘s not as easy as it sounds like.

But to win Worlds? No. And like I said, I think his mindset is changing, too. He‘s truly devoted to Zhenya and whatever might happen, he‘s with her for the long haul. Which is great. They both learn from this and yeah, I think this is a good thing. They have to get to know each other better, such things take time.

I forgot the other parts and I‘ll have to rewatch it, sorry. Like I said I‘m tired and this post probably doesn‘t make any sense either so I‘ll stop.

I think her mom is worried. I mean all moms worry! It is normal. That is all I can guess. She may be more involved because it seems that previously her coaches figured out the costumes and music. Mom could be playing more of a role now. Maybe mom helped influenced her decision to ditch OCS.

Brian has said things like - so and so won the important competitions like Worlds...didn't grab every title along the way..whether he thought that was possible for this season with Zhenya, maybe in the beginning, but who knows. I am sure he hoped for better things this season.

yeah, totally don't understand the whole TSL FS change. The music is GORGEOUS, like they're literally insulting Yo-Yo Ma. The entire collection he plays are all tangos, some are slow and passionate (Mumuki) and some are more playful. If anything, Zhenya does leave out some choreography between competitions (not sure why??) but she is definitely starting to sell it.

Yeah it is just something that needed more time to cultivate. Tangos are hard and are not just learned overnight. She has the potential to do it but as we know this offseason and season were crazy for her.

I think what TSL said about Evgenia and her mom lines up with what I’ve observed from Brian in his Wilson blades interview. I’m unsure of how much final control he has ( which is very surprising to me after the whole Yuna and her mom fiasco) - based on his comments he isn’t allowed to know specifically what’s going on with Yuzu’s injury despite them being together for so long (it reminded me of what happened with Mao and Raf), he doesn’t have control over Jun’s packaging, etc. I do agree with Dave that I hope Brian and Zhenya have a game plan developing (especially if they are changing her programs) and are ready to work because it’s going to be an uphill climb for sure.
I hadn’t thought of it - but they mentioned wondering if her mom would pull her out now and go back to Russia which I really think would be so counterproductive and so extremely premature - I really hope that doesn’t happen.
