Evgenia Medvedeva

Yeah the music cuts chosen were quite odd. But it could have definitely been something very beautiful had it been developed and maybe in a different choreographer’s hands.

When she was working with Averbukh I wished she had another choreographer and I was very optimist about wilson but his programs didn't quite fit her, especially her sp
But misha found something that fit her very well and with clean jumps it can be wonderful to watch

I hope she keeps Misha. His program works really well for her and they‘re friends, which is always great, to work with someone you‘re familiar with and who knows you well, too. Her FS this season is okay and it‘s exciting when she‘s on and puts her soul into performing it but overall it‘s just a lackluster program, nothing unique. I hope for her to have time to really feel her new program(s) next season and that she gets to start the season feeling confident in the choreography, layout and co. I‘m rooting for more Misha and Zhenya programs!!

I didn't like the music cuts of leftovers, imo it was weird and Evgenia looked very uncomfortable while skating...
For me that program didn't make any sense

I really like her new sp though - Hope to watch it again

Carmina, that hat is mine. I love that avatar. Where does everyone get there new avatars? I do Google search and there is no new pictures.

Sooo, we‘re fighting over who gets to steal that pink fluffy hat first from Zhenya?

I get them from Instagram. There are plenty of Zhenya fanpages and they all have many beautiful pictures.

Probably a little controversial, but I think River flows in you would have been a better sp for the Olympics. I loved her sp program, but the Olympics is a different animal. Probably 60% of the the people that watch the Olympics only watch figure skating every 4 years. So repeating a program is no big deal.
River Flows is so unique with the hopscotch and jump rope, I think the audience would have been in awe. I am every time I watch it.

It was such a beautiful program. I hope to see her skate to these deep musical pieces where she can really emote next season. I am a fan of keeping Tosca for the sp though if she wanted to, it’s such a beautiful program already.

This might be a bit subjective. I've loved all of the dresses she had before, and I love these last 2 as well. One thing that almost no one is able to reproduce (or so it seems) is the detailing that Olga Ryabenko does.

Oh, some of it totally is. I’m a former stylist; if nothing else, I am extremely picky. [emoji23] As standalone pieces, Olga’s dresses are absolutely gorgeous, jaw-droppingly so. But I don’t find them to be the absolute most flattering in every case. Or maybe I just really dislike skirts and body pieces/leotards that are separate colours, which has the effect of screaming LOOK AT HER BUTT. [emoji23] (The Karenina dress? I WANT.)

Does anyone else ever get sad about the leftovers program not getting to see a whole season and being developed or is that just me? I wish she would bring the music back and do something spectacular with it. I know Alena is skating to some of the same music cuts this season and it is so beautiful. I would really love to see Evgenia bring that program back and do something with it, even just as an exhibition.
Unpopular opinion: I didn’t like The Leftovers. :slink:

The cuts had the effect of turning the music into generic “not classical but gesturing in that direction, oh, isn’t this dramatic and pretty sounding without being a warhorse?” mush. Mushy is also how I’d describe the choreo. I think part of why the same music works for Kostornaia is (1) short programme and (2) more defined point of view in the choreo and storytelling. Granted, the camerawork at Ondrej Nepela didn’t help.

As far as programmes go, I was never the biggest fans of the music selections chosen for the free (the second piece is ... screechy, for me), but I found the choreo more fluid than in some of her past programmes, if that makes sense. Less standstill perfect picture moments (like the jump rope in her River SP), but more elongated, flowing lines while in motion.

Favourite dresses:

1. Anna Karenina black dress
2. Black tango dress
3. W.E. dress / River flows through you dress

Honourable mentions: Leftovers dress, Chopin dress

Ahh yeah I get what you’re saying. I did have more of an Alena’s program vision when I was suggesting it being reworked though. It is sad because the soundtrack is beautiful and would have worked so well for Evgenia if they could have just got it right. Maybe it’s best they didn’t, I think casual olympics viewers might have genuinely started a riot if she skated a program like what Alena has now with that sp for her fs and didn’t win the gold! And yeah I totally get what you mean, they definitely tried to make it more mature, but somehow it all got lost in that strange fast part of the music cut and choreo. It’s a shame really.

Edit: I have to say though, those train sounds edited over where the layback to beillmann spin is at the end of the program may just be one of Daniil’s best moments!

1. Anna Karenina (Olympics ver.)
2. Leftovers
3. Melodies of the White Night
4. Libertango (RusNats ver.)
5. 14-15 FS (from Zhenya's junior days.)

The Leftovers... I actually liked that program because it was pretty, but I think the progression of ideas or moods or whatever wasn't cohesive and didn't make sense. The motif that plays at the beginning and end is from a completely different piece, Divenire by Ludovico Einaudi, and it's pretty, but it doesn't seem to have a purpose.

I believe in an interview Zhenya talked about the program being about having the courage to cross boundaries or something, but that doesn't really come across. So it was kind of an abstract program, and I think Anna Karenina worked out better because it's just more emotional in a way that's easier to understand.

I liked the train sound effect in Karenina. It added some tension for what was to come after the layback and accentuated the stretch in those positions. The start of the programme was a bit weak, though, or maybe it just doesn’t translate well on TV — I imagine the opening chatter is very obvious as the start of a skater’s music in the arena, but on TV, you can easily mistake it for arena sounds.

My issue with The Leftovers isn’t so much that others are doing it, but the weaknesses of the version we saw at Ondrej Nepela and also that Evegenia has had all three of her senior programmes built around film soundtracks (albeit W.E. is more a case of using soundtrack music rather than adapting a soundtrack and story into one piece). Is it a minor complaint? Yes. Do I think it’s a concern in terms of being pigeonholed into a specific genre and as a skater with limited range? Also yes. Most people don’t watch exhibition skates, so your competitive programmes are your body of work. Diversity is good. I think it’s worth trying a tango again after Evgenia is more comfortable with the improvements in jump technique, as the dramatic nature of tango pieces works for her.

Also, call me crazy, but I’d like to see Med do something really modern and interesting:

I know this is an odd one but I would absolutely love to see what she could do with something like The Nutcracker - Pas de deux. It would be so new, but yet so comfortable and powerful for her.

My post with my favorite Zhenya dresses disappeared :(

they are:

1. W.E.
2. Leftovers
3. Black Anna Karenina + River Flows in You
5. Brown/maroon Anna Karenina + Galaxy Chopin
