Evgenia Medvedeva

Ahhhhh, so worried now, this girl will be the death of me. :palmf: I thought the injury was just a simple strained muscle. I hope it won't impact her preparation for next season, this off season is really quite essential to the rest of her career.

I want to say that in the end I met Evgenia <3 if not for the picoI wouldn’t believe

Now about injury: Muscles actually need a long time to regenerate and muscle injuries are nasty (you can even die from them in extreme cases). Also thigh muscle is the big one which is constantly in use if you’re walking. I honestly hope it’s the case and not something more worrying. Actually out of all possible skating injuries simple bone break is the easiest to heal (as long as it’s not a stress fracture). You are put into stabiliser, do some simple physio to avoid muscle atrophy and you are good.

I remember that when Eric Radford had a herniated disc in 2017 that caused him hip during Worlds 2017, he and Meaghan did SOI after. He said some like it was actually really helpful, because they had a physio person he could work with every day on the tour. Depending on what her injury is, that might be something that could help Evgenia too.

I hope Zhenya will be fine. I don‘t know too much about pulled muscles but I always thought they were of the type of injuries that heal faster. I just hope that it‘s nothing chronic. She already has back pains, she doesn‘t need another injury. And hip injuries are dangerous and often have long term consequence... I mean, it‘s good that she‘s taking it easy, listening to her body and the doctors. And she deserves the rest she‘s getting now in Moscow. I hope she‘ll be healthy and ready for the next season. Zhenya loves skating so much, it would be blatantly unfair if another injury prevented her again from having a solid, early preparation for the next season...

I'm really worried. I think Jagudin had to retire because of a hip injury.

Hip injuries and thigh injures are completely different ball games. I am surprised hip and thigh are being used interchangeably in interviews but I guess it is a translation issue.

All I see, is that she had tape on her thigh at Worlds. On her quadricep. This may be related to her injury.

Zhenya will be okay :) I trust we’ll be looking back on this thread in a matter of months when she lands her first quad and thinking “what were we worried about?!”
She will be working with great physiotherapists.

I am increasingly confused as well. Thigh and hip are two totally different body types, so it would be good to know what we're even talking about now. When I hear "hip injury", I start to worry, because we've seen lots of athletes who faced serious problems because of that. Combined with Zhenya saying "she won't be able to jump for a long time", I can see why people freak out. I don't think we need to talk about retirement, though, not at all, Zhenya is one tough cookie and she and her team know how to deal with injuries. Remember Yuzu and his ankle? And he's still there, still competing. Zhenya's injury doesn't seem to be as bad, she just needs to be careful.

Thanks for being so positive! I could need that sometimes, I tend to worry a lot. :) Zhenya is responsible in looking out for her body and not jumping at the moment. I trust that her doctors will provide the best help possible so that she can soon return to doing what she loves without pain.

It would be good to know what kind of injury she has. Nevertheless I'm still worried. I don't think she'll be able to learn quads soon.

Now that she mentioned she still can‘t jump and won‘t for some time, I don‘t think she‘ll learn quads either now. I was hoping she would have more time this off-season but now the focus is on recovering and then working on new programs. Quads, maybe in the harness, but I don‘t think it will be possible to do them without it, there‘s not enough time. Anyway, quads are an issue either way, they were not very likely to begin with, for every skater. If she can master them one day, that would be cool but I doubt it will be so soon. Zhenya could learn new combos, or move some of the ones she has into the second half. Maybe that won‘t win her the Worlds next year but it will be a step towards complicating her layout. Then maybe we‘ll finally have an injury free off-season for once...

This is what I'd like to chose to believe too. Because the alternative is just being sad that she may once again have half (or even more) of her off season taken away from her and she'll be super behind starting next season again. It's just too sad. I'll chose to be positive. Everything will be fine :) She seems happy lately, so that's at least one reason to have hope.

OT - but have to say, it makes me absolutely giddy that Evgenia's ad is next to Tiger's (the new one for his win today - you should go see it, its really inspiring) in Nike's instagram page. I know we all have an opinion about Tiger (though really, let him who is without sin cast the first stone), but I think we could all agree that in terms of star power, even with that fall from grace, Tiger is up there - and now, the greatest comeback history in golf history - just wow.

She makes it sound like she won’t be training for awhile and did I understand correctly she can’t really go to the gym?

I don‘t know, where did you get that from exactly? I might have to re-read. She said she can‘t run, probably puts too much stress on the injury, but going to the gym might be different... I remember, there was footage, she went there even with her broken foot, just stretching and working out to keep in shape. But I‘m not entirely sure of course.
