According to Sport24 before the decision to WD, "It is said that Medvedeva’s mother is for skating to withdraw from the tournament, but Zhenya’s coach, Brian Orser, wants her to perform."

Really? I cannot imagine Brian of all people stressing her into skating when she‘s clearly not capable of it.

Well for Brian...let’s not forget that he was the one coping with many Hanyu struggles (including the painful FS at the Cup of China when he almost broke his head!) and decided to let him skate. Probably he knews that Zhenya NEEDED to skate today for many FED reason. But health is health and if I were her mother I would have done the same...

I know it’s the only right decision but I’m still heartbroken (as everyone else in here and herself I guess). She was in such a good state coming into this competition, only to have it all fall apart because of something she has no control over. Life’s not fair but I’m sure she’ll get over it sooner than later and continue her path. I only hope this doesn’t lower her standing in the eyes of the Fed (not sure if she can get much lower though… *cough*).

If the new article is true, it's not all that surprising. Brian has Yuzuru as a student -> who insists on skating with a cut on his head(2014), with injured ankle(multiple times), despite doctors advise.
Other than that, Cha jun Hwan survived at least half a season in 2018 using pain killers to cope with his boot problems.
But of course Brian lets his student make the final decision whether to skate or not.

I’m heartbroken for her, her free program is one of my favorites of the whole year (maybe ever haha). But she was a fighter to even get through yesterday. I’m happy that they are keeping health as a main priority. Hopefully we can see her programs one more time somewhere

I know it's devastating for her (and the fans), but I'm glad it's just a boot and not physical health issues. She can at least come back to the Russian Cup Final and show what she is capable of. Honestly, the chance for her to podium here and make the team was incredibly slim anyway. Better not to put herself at risk of real injury.

If I were her I would burn those boots and make a nice bonfire with Brian and roast some marshmallows over it.
Her programs were so great this season - she didn't deserve such bad luck. Well, while she works on staying healthy and further improving her form we can keep re-watching the Rostelecom videos

The list on RusFeds site has been removed! Apparently Zhenya hasn't decided if she is competing or not and the list was published without her final decision! (Seriously, RusFed?!!!)
