Evgenia Medvedeva

A teacher of choreography in Crystal-rink(Chrystalniy) Alexey Zheleznyakov gave a very interesting interview.

"Charlie Chaplin" for Evgenia Medvedeva. was co choreographed by him

I really liked working with Zhenya Medvedeva... it's a pity that she left us, but this is her choice, so it was fate. I will not discuss or condemn her decision.

Q: This season, Medvedeva has an interesting situation: a SP from Ilya Averbukh, an FP from She-Lynn Bourn. Two different styles of one athlete.
A: I think her team did a good job in this case. Most importantly, they no longer began to create incomprehensible experiments on Zhenya []. Both short and free – it's the lyrics, that for Zhenya always was the best. Before leaving Eteri, she almost always skate in that style. And then, as soon as she left, they tried to make her a playful jazz program. And the program did not work. Then Misha Ge made her an elegant lyric and oh, miracle! - Zhenya began to "skate out" [slang] the program. So obviously, you don't need to break a working system. Perhaps jazz-programm was good, but it did not suit Zhenya.

The Jazz program wasn't bad. It just wasn't convenient for Zhenya at that time. To skate that program she must be happy but clearly she wasn't inside. She was still going through the worst moment of her life.

Maybe she should bring the program again someday and show this choreographer and other critics (those who believe that all her past time was better) that she can skate that program and make it great.

I would love her to skate it as an exhibition, with a new costume to show how beautiful that program can be.
She doesn't usually repeat programs, so I doubt she would bring it back.

It seems that some Russian media took out of context an Averbukh interview on the average earnings of ex-skaters and said that was what he paid for Zhenya.

He has denied these media by saying that Zhenya was paid the rate of a world-class active athlete. He also ask what is the media interest in slandering Zhenya trying to reduce the Zhenya rate so that it is installed in the public opinion that Zhenya is a cheap athlete. That way it's about reducing the rate by which she can be hired in other shows and make her earnings lower.

Well, I ask me the same but I know the answer :palmf:

Averbukh: Medvedeva's salary for the show corresponded to the rates of the world's leading skaters

The director of the play “The Wizard of OZ” emphasized that the athlete’s participation in the play aroused great audience interest
“The previously spread information that Evgenia Medvedeva received 150 thousand rubles in my shows for her performance does not correspond to reality. The other day I gave an interview where I talked about the average earnings of skaters in ice shows in Russia. I repeat, once again - average! And the interview was mostly about skaters who had already completed their careers, and I am outraged by the distortion of information from my interview, "said Averbukh.

"A number of media made a strange conclusion that Evgenia Medvedeva can be attributed to the" average earnings "of ex-skaters. This is an absolute slander. We will certainly not disclose the amounts, because this is a secret deal, but Evgenia, of course, gets more. Including, perfomong for the New Year’s performances “The Wizard of Oz”, which were held with the participation of Medvedeva from December 30 to January 7, ” the choreographer noted. Medvedeva in the play acted as Dorothy. The 20-year-old athlete began to participate in the show after the Russian championship in Krasnoyarsk.

“Evgenia played a major role in The Wizard of OZ, and worked 3 performances a day. It would be difficult to reach such an agreement, given the demand for Medvedeva and her schedule, she is an active athlete, and for us it’s a success that we managed to work on a New Year’s show with Evgenia. My idea with this performance required Medvedeva, I have long imagined her in the role of Dorothy. We worked with Evgenia on terms of the relevant rate of the world's leading skaters." Averbukh added.

Successful debut
The director of the ice show emphasized that Medvedeva’s participation in the performance aroused great spectator interest. The show was held from December 30, 2019 to January 7, 2020 at the CSKA Arena, which is located on the territory of the Park of Legends RCC.

“I have a big request to the media not to try to slander the famous athlete for the sake of clicks and traffic, trying to reduce the cost of her status as one of the largest brands in the world of sports. I am proud that we had New Year’s shows with Evgenia, there was a full house in the stands every day. Everything went off with a bang, from the point of view of business, and the audience was also satisfied, "- said the source of the agency.
"I couldn't help but refute the slander that the media had spread.. Apparently, Medvedeva is so popular that she is a tidbit for unscrupulous publications. Of course, they can now answer in court for false and distorted words and facts," Averbukh concluded.

I find it so crazy and sad that someone would try to diminish her value or success when, in fact, she‘s the reigning World Bronze medalist and the fifth best skater this season according to season‘s best scores. Yes, fifth. She‘s right behind only 3A and quad jumpers. Fourth best Russian. She IS one of the leading athletes in the world and has been for 5 seasons in a row on the elite level, 7 if you count juniors. Yes, she‘s skating for Russia and thus won‘t make it to any of the Championships this year. But if the situation was different, she would be right in the mix for a top 5, maybe even medal, finish. How many Russian ladies skaters are there who‘ve had this kind of consistent and steady success over so many years? Not many. I remember all the posts after the Olympics saying “Medvedeva is old already, she won‘t be there in two years time“. Well, she wasn‘t supposed to be there, true that, and I suppose many people are pretty indignant about her not accepting that. But she‘s here and she‘s doing well and just because she‘s losing to the three leading ladies this season who just all happen to be from her own country doesn‘t mean she‘s not a high-level athlete anymore. She is. Actually, she is one of the most well-known faces of figure skating. Besides, she‘s not got only medals to her name but artistry, personality and the certain it-factor. Any show would be more than happy to have her and will pay as such, I can imagine. ;)

Good for Zhenya that Averbukh cleared this up. Hoping she has a successful rest of the season. I am hoping for her to go to a senior B or two in spring but I realize it‘s unlikely. She‘s busy after all, with events and training. I‘m mostly sad that we won‘t see her beautiful programs anymore, especially her SP still has a lot of room to grow, imo.

Do we know whether she‘ll go back to Canada soon or will she stay the whole January in Russia?

I‘m rambling but I haven‘t posted in here for a while so it feels like I‘m putting all the stuff I‘ve missed into one post. So, forgive me.

(PS: I like her hair. And Jerry. :) )

I love Evgenia posting with Jerry because you know how much she misses her.

And I am so happy Auerbukh is in her corner and that he publicly defends her.

I'll just ignore this nonsense of an article and get straight to my point: One week until Euros! Without Zhenya unfortunately but I'm still wondering if there's people from this thread attending the competition and would like to meet there? So far it's Fluture and me, but we'd love to meet some more of you guys! (Then we can cry over Nationals together and comfort each other lol.)
