Maybe at the 4th and 5th stage then? If it is a flare up it may have calmed down by then?
First we have to wait if this information is indeed true. TASS did not say who their source is, people are wondering if it is the small telegram account with 70 followers that suddenly spread those rumours around yesterday and therefore was not a reliable source. However, on the other hand TASS is usually very reliable..

Usually, when TASS quotes something and the fed rushes to announce they have absolutely no idea, the information is correct. The fourth and fifth stages, sadly, will be stacked and coming fresh from an injury, I don‘t think Zhenya will be able to qualify for Nationals. I wonder if taking the season off as a whole wouldn‘t have been better in the long term...

The 4th and 5th stages won't be that much more stacked than the others. 1 or 2 of the 3A, then Tuktamysheva and the rest one or two of the juniors (Kamila,Daria,Maiia) or seniors who are not on the National Team. If Zhenya skates clean she has at least the upperhand over most of the other seniors (expect 3A and Kamila) since she usually gets the highest PCs. So a 3rd or 4th place would be hers at least.

Has anyone heard how it is going with Eteri and Zhenya? Tarasova mentioned that she “wants” them to be happy together in a Russian article today... seemed vague and confusing - I hope that things are going well...

I Think that rostelecom were she is also listed could be the thing that decided in the end who gets to go to rusnats from those that could not do the russian cup stages , and she would not be the only one who has withdrawn. Not to forget that there are still 3 other russian cup stages in which she potentially could skate

I think you are looking a little too deep into it. TAT's words are the same standard stuff all the other "experts" aka Zhulin, Averbukh and co. have voiced the past few weeks. I doubt that TAT knows what is going on at the rink, she has Ice Age and co. keeping her busy and does not work at the Crystal rink. Only Zhenya and Eteri know how their relationship is.

Exactly. Arthur has also withdrawn from both of the first stages, as well as T/M and several others. Zhenya is not the only one with injury and to be honest it would have been a miracle if her back flare up was completely fixed in just three weeks. If she really is withdrawing, let her take a little more time to heal and then go to Rostelecom Cup and the last two stages. I hope all will be well.
 
We also have to keep in mind that there is usually an information war before competitions. Just yesterday there were many "trustful" sources claiming that not everything is going well at AOP's rink and Elena had to deny it on her instagram, would not surprise me if this is now the retaliation from the other side.. the last few months have taught me that everything is possible in the Russian Skating world.
I will wait until we have an official statement.

The list for the practices at the 2nd Russian Cup were published by RusFed, Zhenya is on the list.

I think Tarasova would be better off quiet. If not journalists could also ask her who advised Zhenya to do Biellmann when she shouldn't.
