Evgenia Medvedeva

She is glowing.

There was an open training session for the Anna Karenina show today. I do have to say I‘m glad Zhenya‘s not playing Anna. Honestly, I was kind of annoyed with Averbukh at first to not even give her the main role but now it makes more sense. She‘s died enough on the ice already, let her have less drama for once and play a character who ends up with a happier life.

Also:

Tennis player Erica Andreeva for Sport24:

- And I also really like figure skating: I watch the world and European championships, I root for Russian figure skaters, I get great aesthetic pleasure. I like Evgenia Medvedeva, her behavior, mentality. She is very dignified in public.

She is glowing. And I agree with this whole post.(y)

Wow! She‘s insane (in a good way).

Also, it amazes me every time how even in pictures she manages to portray the character and emotion so well. She‘s a storyteller and imo, there‘s no one like her in figure skating right now.

totally agree that she'll be a great Kitty!
I read the book (after hearing she'd skate to the soundtrack in 2018 haha!) and fell in love with Kitty and Levin's story. So excited to see her bring it to life on the ice.

even from the still photos I can feel all the emotions 😭 🙌

I read Anna Karenina after the Olympics, too! I loved it and went on to read The Death of Ivan Ilyich and The Kreutzer Sonata, as well. Maybe someday I'll tackle War and Peace or some Pushkin, although I've heard that Pushkin doesn't translate into English in a way that does the strength of his poetry justice. I did go on to read Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment though, and then I dove into my own language's literary heritage with Great Expectations, by Dickens. I'm currently working through David Copperfield by the same author.

Watching Evgenia skate so magically in the Olympics has had so many unexpected consequences in my life: getting into classic literature, both Russian and English, taking up the piano again (because River Flows in You is such a charming melody), getting into figure skating outside of casually watching during the Olympics (including getting a passport and traveling outside the United States for the first time to see her skate at two Skate Canada competitions and a Stars on Ice show), and learning both a handful of Russian phrases and what is at best a small child's ability to puzzle out the Cyrillic alphabet, including instantly recognizing the words " Evgenia Medvedeva, Zhenya, and figure skating."

Haha I also read Anna Karenina after the Olympics. I'm recalling this passage from the book describing Kitty:
The childishness of her expression, together with the delicate beauty of her figure, made up her special charm, and that he fully realized. But what always struck him in her as something unlooked for, was the expression of her eyes, soft, serene, and truthful, and above all, her smile, which always transported Levin to an enchanted world, where he felt himself softened and tender.
Yep, that's Zhenya all right

More photos and small interview with Zhenya:
"We have already mastered a lot, but we are not going to stop there, it seems to me that we will master something new until the premiere, and we hope to surprise the audience at the performance in a good way. It's curious that fate always brings me to this story - I became the silver medalist of the Olympic Games-2018 in Pyeongchang with the Anna Karenina program, now I got the role of Kitty. It seems to me that Kitty's age and character are even closer to me."
