Evgenia Medvedeva

Liza’s shoot exactly one year ago must have sold well, so they decided to get more skaters.

I don‘t think anyone will argue that Zhenya certainly has the looks to be a cover girl for Maxim.

Plus, stuff like this brings more recognition to the sport.

Hello everyone, I'm new, but have been lurking for a while. Just wanted to be able to join the discussion and ask questions. I love FS, love the drama, the stories, the various interpersonal relationships, and I'm not an expert, but I love the sport.

Interview for Maxim magazine and its translation:

Zhenya, are you already retired at 22?

There are pluses and minuses to this. It all depends on which way you look!

Tell us a scary story from your childhood.

In fact, childhood was cool. Everything was: tags, catch-ups, rubber band games, ball games, bouncers, but not on the playground, but in the gym between ice training.

How old were you when you got on the ice?

I started skating at the age of three. My mother skated until the age of 14, then she finished due to an injury. So I didn't have many options. I was sent to play sports for the sake of health, no one raised me to be a world champion. I realized that maybe I am special after at official training, when I was still very young, the audience gathered and said: “Look what the girl is doing!”

And what was this girl doing?

Jumped a lot! All sorts of unusual cascades, unusual jumps that people have not yet seen. But I didn’t know then that I was doing something special. When I broke a record at the World Championships that no one could break for six years, it hit me in the head: “I guess I skate better than some people.”

Raising a champion is an expensive pleasure?

Expensive. These are skates, these are suits, these are all ammunition, covers, trips to competitions, hotels, entry fees ... Mom worked three jobs to provide for me. It was an absolute jump into the abyss for her. I once talked with my mother and confessed that I would not have been able to, probably.

Do you know those who did all this, but could not?

Unfortunately, there are more of them than those who succeeded. I saw this. Very talented girls who beat me were 20 points ahead of me at the Russian Cup stages, but not all of them made it to the senior Grand Prix stages. The main reason is injuries. I had them too. I skated with broken arms, legs, back injuries were severe, I still feel it. In sports, injuries are normal, I skated through pain, I just endured a lot.

Are you on painkillers?

No, I'm tired of taking painkillers.

Is something hurting you right now?

I sit so that it does not hurt.

What did you discover for yourself when you left big sport?

A world without strict discipline! A world where I can afford to be ten minutes late, eat more for breakfast and dinner, hang out with my friends until 4 in the morning.

What other superpowers do you have besides patience?

Always arrive on time everywhere and then wait for people for half an hour. I can also not breathe for two and a half minutes: figure skaters, like swimmers, have a large lung capacity.

Anya Semenovich, also a European champion, said that when she left the sport, her breasts grew.

No, girls have always envied me. I was thin, but my chest was all right.

And what about the personal life of girls skaters? I think you have wild control there.

No, it actually depends more on upbringing. To clarify the situation: from 17 to almost 19 years old, including all my world records and championships, I had a boyfriend. Neither coaches nor girlfriends knew about it. Many people think that we do not allow ourselves feelings or relationships. This is not true. It's just, friends, you don't know about it.

Tell us then about your relationship with Milokhin. And by the way, who is this?

Danka Milokhin is a tiktoker, and now also a singer, a very talented boy, my former partner in the Ice Age. We are not a couple and never have been, which does not prevent social networks from marrying us all the time. But we became friends and communicate.

Wait, are you single right now?

I hide my personal life.

Apparently there is something to hide!

Well, perhaps. Or it possible that everything is so boring for me that I am ashamed to admit it?

What guys do you like?

I really love creative people. I love people who put meaning into their actions, live for something. I love people who can express emotion or love through touch. I love beautiful words, I can’t help myself - I love with my ears. I love well-groomed men. It doesn't matter what style or haircut, but it should be neat.

I got confused: either with the ears, or with the haircut. Wouldn't you be able to date a bald and fat man?

No. This is terrible discrimination, and it's very bad to say that, but I honestly say no.

And if he is bald, fat, but he has a velvety voice, is he tactile and very purposeful, active and creative?

In this case, we need to talk.

How did you dare our photo shoot?

At first I was shy, and then I remembered that the whole world saw my buttocks in shorts at various championships and the Olympics during the performance of programs, and I somehow calmed down. But I'm not the kind of person who posts photos in swimsuits. At some point, I was generally against nudity. Then, when she recognized her femininity, she began to allow herself to at least bare my shoulders.

Do you like yourself at all?

I really didn’t like myself from about 19 years old to 21 years old: face, figure, quality of hair, shape of legs, lack of wasp waist, which I see in social networks in girls. This stage has now passed. I’m starting to like what I’m really investing in: I changed my haircut, I take care of my hair, I put my skin in order.

And this photo shoot can play a role in increasing your self-esteem?

Played absolutely. This is a big step towards accepting your sexuality. Probably, many will react: “Here, Zhenya got naked, off and on, the girl blossomed.” Many people just got used to the fact that I am a very conservative athlete. But if you look from the other side, then I am no longer 17 or 18 years old.

MAXIM helps people! Evgenia, how are you going to live now?

I? I plan to live very well. I will remain a figure skater because I like it. There are many ways: to become a coach, a choreographer, a director, perhaps to make your own show.

Would you send your child to figure skating?

No. Rather, it is running, swimming, something natural for a human. Sports are great! Go in for sports, children - you will be healthy!

Do you have a favorite Evgenia program?
I really like Memoirs of a Geisha because it highlights her fluidity and elegance. It's also where she was had moved away from Eteri to TCC. She seemed more... free? Like she was finally able to be herself. Like I said before, I'm not an expert and don't have a mental catalogue of dates, performances like most of you here, so I'll probably have more questions than anything. I have one now: Do you believe Zhenya ( I
love that nickname) will transition to coach at some point?

I think she will choreograph and maybe design figure skating dresses first. I truly believe she will be an amazing coach, but not for a few more years.

She is young, not sure what the average age of a beginner coach is, but I think she'd be fantastic. Adam Rippon started young, so who knows? I may be reading too
much into things, but at the recent Russian shows, she seems very prominent, more so than Eteri, who seems, in pictures at least, to be in the background, on the periphery, not she's not really part of it. But Zhenya seems to have taken on a mentorship/leadership role for the young women, especially with Valieva.

Evgenia has always been a good mentor. But I think her other projects and hosting gigs will make her not want to be a full time coach, yet.

she'll skate the red dress program for the turberidze show?
